So a while back, PSN put out Space Marine as one of the Playstation Plus pack in games, and that has somewhat rekindled my interest after several years of bascially forgetting about all these half finished models sitting around me. (Can't play these games with no opponents, and no games means less incentive to actually paint)
Apparantly, since I last payed attention, they've done not only a Fifth Edition, but also a SIXTH edition. Dayum. And they've gone and like doubled the price of everything.

Anyway: 40K (and WHFB and Specilist and competing brands like Warmahordes) General.

I'll start off few ideas that have been floating around my head since stating to paint this stuff again:

Dark Angels: With their willingness to 'disappear' Inquisitors, how possible do you think it is that they might just steal their codes/id and send out Inner Circle members as fake Inquisitors to find those rumours of the Fallen that they'll occasionally abandon IG to die in order to investigate? Because with the whole 'lumbering bureacracy' theme of the Imperium, I'd imagine it'd be quite easy to miss a lead you saw on TV by several decades. And 7 foot tall cyborgs are less suspicious when they are Inquisitors.

Thousand Sons: I find it a bit weird that Tzeentch is the only Chaos cult who's elite cult marines are locked into a single background- Khorne, Nurgle, and Slaanesh can always recruit more Beserkers, Plague Marines, and Noise Marines, because they're all more tied to behaviours/god given gifts than the Heresy Legions that created them. But Rubrik Marines are ALL Thousand Sons, unless there's some fluff I've never seen that has people replicating the spell. It just seems so much less customizable in terms of fluff (and while one of the reasons that I kind of fell off of the hobby was the ever lessening of hobby/creative content by GW, they still seem to encourage "make up your own colours and backstory!" as much as ever)
Should there, I don't know, be a more Flamers-style Tzeentch Marine? Or is that just covered by the icon?

Speaking of the old hobby content- Apparetntly it's still available through the GW website somehow? Does anyone know how to get at it? They have so mercilessly turned their site into a store that I can't find ANYTHING that they aren't trying to sell me.

Paints- Almost all my paints are solidified and hard to use now: anyone have any any suggestions on replacements, given that GW apparently dropped their entire old range at some point? I thought I saw that Army Painter is essentially their old paints in new labels... are the paints available through Mantic any good? Because their Squats and Space Skaven are pretty nice looking models, and those VHS case figure boxes they look like the come with are pretty neat looking.

Chaos Land Raider and a bunch of unopened Gamesday entry exclusive models from the mid 2000's.

Almost debating getting back into it (Gainesville seriously has nothing to do), but I doubt any of my army lists and models would even be usable any more.

Post us some images. You may be lucky - some of them models might well fit as stand-ins for more modern units.

WARHAMMER 40K: CRISIS TEAM

Basically, image related, but as weaboo minimechs. The player would a Shas'Vre attached to a hunter cadre responding to an Imperial incursion on a strategic world in the ragged edge of the Third Sphere of Expansion. The game would be divided into a set of three chapters, each with its own set of dominant enemies.

Incursion:
Loads of guard. Mostly fodder, only dangerous through volume of fire, but plasma and melta troopers would a foe worthy of respect. Heavy weapons squads would be a pest and stormies rage inducing, but the guard's 'vees would a more worthy foe.

Sentinels, Hellhound variants, Tauros, Russ, the whole famn damily would put in appearances.

Several missions come to mind for this section; I'm thinking the first mission would be a classic deep strike intended to take out Basilisks shelling a city and then surviving to reach pickup. Other levels would include a chaotic firefight in the marshy deltas, contesting an important river crossing, a fight in the jungle against Guard armor and countering an Elysian Paratrooper assault on an important logistics depot.

I've thought of a boss fight or two for that section as well: Fighting a Baneblade in the downtown of the Gue'Vesa district and the culminating fight of that section of the game would be participating in an all out fight against Tech-Guard to try and capture a downed Warhound Titan ending in a boss fight against a Secutor* and the player fleeing as the mortally wounded God-Machine self-destructed around their ears.

Retaliation:
A Space Marine patrol group (Strike Cruiser, Gladius, Hunter Destroyer) had shown up to support faltering Guard forces on the world. As you could guess, Space Marines would be the dominant Foe in this chapter, although guard would still put in appearances.

Marines as a foe would be nasty. Tough as old boots, meaner that snakes and quite unwilling to back down. And this is just Tactical Marines. Assault marines would be demonic spiders of the highest order and Devastators with plasma and missiles would only be slightly easier to combat. Vees would be mean too. Few levels come to mind, like surviving the marines' initial landing, fighting their way through an imperial trap and a fight in the ruins of a imperial era hive

The bosses for this section would be an Terminator squad and a Librarian. I'm thinking Eldar might make an appearance in this section as well - the players being called in to chase saboteurs and maybe investigate why a Pathfinder Team had gone silent. As you could guess, they were manipulating things in some way.

I'm not quite sure about the third section. I'm trying to choose between Chaos, Tyranids and Necrons. On the balance of things, I'd go for 'nids.

Haha, this makes me wonder... what would happen if you adapted Shepard's group from ME into 40k equivalents.

If you made Shepard some sort of ... Imperial Guard, say ... turned Rogue Trader you could even get away with having the few Xeno subordinates/mercenaries of the team, and the flagship would be named 'the Normandy'

Though you could say being an Inquisitor would be closer to their status as a 'Spectre', and obviously he'd be somewhat 'Radical' in who and what he'd be willing to utilise to carry out the Emperor's will, but even when he had a reunite containing xeno/abhuman/mutant members he would be forever loyal to humanity first, for to think otherwise is heresy.

Yeah but they'd be trying to use Chaos to overthrow the Imperium and put themselves at the head of the human Empire sort of like how they planned to use the Reapers/indoctrination, and of course it would backfire on them in the end.

Its not like you couldn't be racist and express human-first views as Commander Shepard in Mass Effect, an Imperial Shepard would just have stronger ones but that doesn't mean he would be against banging some sweet xenos ass as a rogue trader or bending laws of the Imperium on the sly as an Inquisitor.
Hell even the Imperium of Man doesn't always kill the alien if it is sufficiently harmless yet useful. Pic related.

New Army idea: SOB heavy list IQ list based off the Dahome Amazons. Colour scheme is image related and replacing the hair with greenstuff caps like image related. And, as you can guess, they'd be a change from the overwhelming whiteness of the usual SOBs.

Not really. It's more like the wearer than the Crisis suit and fits the animeque look of the Tau fairly well.

I happen to like the Centurions and the Riptide. Y'all just have no tastes. At the very least they look better than the recent Mutilators. (Admittedly that's not a very high bar to clear)

The Heldrake, however... "Goatse Chicken" is very apt.
>> No. 178860

The Cents are horrible in design and they make no sense in the theme of the army. The SM's already have Terminators and Dreadnoughts, stuffing in these new "1.5" suits between them where there is no niche is just nonsensical.

Apparently they are expensive as hell for three models.
>> No. 178870

The argument could be advanced that they're an attempt to create a type of termie suit that can be practically manufactured using available technologies and if GW's smart with their fluff, that's say it is.

>GW being smart with their space marine fluff.

Never mind, then.
