I am going to the release party tonight... but I will be unable to play it as my 360 decided its video output would stop working over the weekend and I don't want to spend the money on a new system or pay to get something that's already starting to fail fixed...

Tried doing it myself but the site won't let me. Reported myself.

You probably wont get much of a discount by this December that you could have gotten by pre-ordering from sites such as Greenman, but you'll probably miss any bugs initial launch may go through - which hopefully won't be another round of shit like Keep your insides inside. I fucking hated playing with pubbies after that hit my 2nd Lilith playthrough.

If my PC was able to run the 1st one well, will it run Borderlands 2 on the same level?

At first glance it appears to be graphically similar but maybe they tweaked things under the hood

Runs about the same as the first for me, but honestly, that might just be because I overqualify and they both run at a high enough framerate that I can't tell the difference.

I put in 8 hours yesterday alone, so
it's about that good.

It's pretty much more of the same without being stale and rehashy, and better. The variety in guns is pretty incredible, they're no longer just "[x] but with one of four elemental powers and variable stats." I have a shotgun that fires a cluster bomb instead of buckshot. I have an assault rifle shoots explosive rounds that richochet once. I have a sniper rifle that, when I need to reload, instead of emptying the spent shells and reloading new ones, I throw the gun, it explodes like a grenade, and then a new one materializes in my hands.
Early-game SMGs suck though, which makes me sad, cause they're my weapon of choice.
Still. Assault rifle with explosive rubberized rounds.

The script is hilarious, and Handsome Jack is such an over-the-top asshole that I can't help but like him despite how much I hate him.

Also I accidentally opened The Golden Chest at like, level 9, so I got shitty gear and now my key is gone. Abloobloo.

To expand on that... there is a minigun. A mini-gun with a scope. It is a sniper rifle. There is a minigun sniper rifle in this game.

SMGs do have a tendency to have slag, at least for my current Axton playthrough. So it doesn't matter if they can't have a decent multiplier - if any good DPS at all - when they can be switched for either a good MIRV, torgue or weapon of choice after I paint the swarm purple.

Also if you're into power playing badass points are the new loot addiction. Because there always seems to be something new to do with every weapon, with every area, with every enemy and Boss that you can just become a god by screwing around in the game. In 18 hours I'm at 1844 and there is no end in sight to the points I can rack up when I start to play again or with other characters.

I put in a half hour or so yesterday and got to the first mission guy. And I was immediately like "oh, that's Anthony Burch, the writer. And he wrote his sister into the game too as a waaaaaaaacky character. *sigh*"

So basically, I'm going to finish up Saints Row 2, then maybe go back to Borderlands 1 since I haven't beaten Knoxx or Claptrap DLCs and then maybe I'll be good to go with BL2.

That's a Hyperion pistol then, right? I've definitely started to dislike certain weapon manufacturers. Tediore and Hyperion are on my shitlist. The grenade-reload mechanic is interesting, but only viable if I leave ammo in the clip to reload. And that seems like a waste of ammo. Hyperion bothers me because I demand immediate accuracy, not accuracy ten rounds later.

I love Torgue weapons though. They're all explosive, which is great against pretty much all enemy types. And Maliwan, my beloved elemental manufacturer.

I'm really digging the fact that shields and grenades are so varied now. I picked up a shield that would create a fiery Nova blast whenever my shield or health was depleted. There are Transfusion MIRV grenades. And homing grenades. And grenades that cause a small implosion. The variety is a welcome feature for me.

Ugh, yes, Hyperion are so shit. With SMGs and such it's forgivable, but Hyperion sniper rifles are just the worst things ever.
>> No. 163580
>>163563
Yep, it's Hyperion.
I have only played the game for a little, but so far it's the most interesting thing I've found. Relatively unique concept I suppose when applied to automatic weapons, but according to one of my friends the standard Hyperion assault rifle has less than 40 rounds per clip, so by the time the accuracy bonus kicks in, you're emptying the last few rounds and that's it.
>> No. 163582
Is it weird that I find more legendaries on my own then in groups? Because I got a orange Firebringer Shield that I'm almost scared to let go of at this point even though I'm 25 and its a ten. More blues than good purples too, but loot was always wonky in the first game until Crawermax.

>>163580
Again, Hyperion. Just like how HJ shortchanges or fucks over people, their guns in practice are more wasteful than even a tediore - and at least those pieces of shit were made to have a nice primary use as another set of explosives.

>> No. 163643
>>163640
One of them doesn't like to work for his guns. He thinks there has to be this single all green arrow super gun and if he doesn't have it neatly handed to him right away, then that means the game is cheating him. Which is funny considering he not only fucking tabletops but MMOs. You'd think his dick would explode at the mere mention of the word grind.
>> No. 163645
>>163643
well his thought of grinding is that every weapon is better than the last and that he doesn't need to actually think of weapon stats since in tabletop and Most MMO (though probably not a Spoony DM'd table game) each weapon would be progressively better than the last. Weapon Stats are something I like about the Borderlands games. Yea this pistol isn't as fast or fires as many shots as the other but it has a quicker reload and bolsters my abilities along with giving me explosive bonus. He'd probably really get his dander up calling it a "thinking mans shooter".
>> No. 163692
>>163645
>Thinking mans' shooter

... you mean by comparing the stats of different randomly dropped weapons then getting engaged in firefights that are more often determined by your weapon stats than by any actual skill at shooting games?

>>163631
I agree completely with this. The funny thing is that there is 1 feature that would make me love this game and that's the ability to disassemble and construct your own guns. I mean the new variety of guns and funs is great but it just underscores how much of a tragedy this lack of a feature is. Like, I can take a scope off a gun and put it on another gun IRL. Borderlands 1, at least, I found myself routinely finding guns much below my level and my need. And the thing was that these guns had some cool features. But I couldn't break them down to slap those features onto my regular use weapons. If this feature were reality it would push the game into instant classic territory. That the game has end level weapons suggests that there is in fact an end game. If your arsenal was a personally constructed cadre of overpowered boomsticks and you were constantly crafting, tweaking and upgrading them, I would never stop playing this.
>> No. 163696
>>163692
Because you haven't died to regular enemies or fought in multiplayer scenarios/Bosses that require more thought? Yes, assuredly only stats will save you 100% of the time in any fight.

Also its kind of stupid to want to reconstruct guns when that is the entire aspect of the Bandit gun type - and surprise, they can suck almost exactly because they are Frankensteined together from other guns.
>> No. 163701
>>163643
I'm not above grinding in an RPG, but the way Borderlands (at least the original) does it is just too damn tedious for me. Every time I find some new guns, the game screeches to a halt as I compare it to the ones I've already got, gazing over miniscule stat increases and deciding if I want to gain +3 damage and slightly less recoil in exchange for a 2% faster rate of fire and a slight reduction of my reload speed which are such marginal amounts that I'm not gonna notice the difference anyway.

It just doesn't really contain anything I look for and find fun in a videogame and I don't get why people are getting so excited about it.
>> No. 163703
>>163701
I think that could have been lessened if they had given us a larger backpack instead of just slots. In RPGs I usually never look over my loot until after I get out of danger then I start swapping out of the better stuff I just found.
>> No. 163706
Borderlands isn't a turn based serious RPG.
It's a Loot and Shoot by self description. It's not important that you have the best gun period. It's supposed to be fast paced and hectic and you're finding new guns all over and if it's got a green arrow in what you care about, hold E on that bitch and get to shooting! Or if it has a cool effect you're interested in, hold E on that bitch and get to shooting!
It's not fucking Final Fantasy or some shit where you need to head back to town and spend 15 minutes looking over your inventory and worrying about it.

That's the secret there, I'm telling it to you. Don't worry about it. Grab a gun that looks cool or has an immediate indentifier of being better; the green arrows; and fucking move back into the action of a hectic 4 man shooter.

If you're having problems with Borderlands you're doing it to yourself.
>> No. 163720
>>163701
Okay, your argument fell to pieces when you outed yourself out at being perturbed more over people being excited over the game you don't care for than anything else. If you really wanted to criticize Borderlands 2 itself you could have gone after the horrible online issues some people get only with this game on steam, some missions being a bit too monotonous like Arms Dealing, pubbies being unpredictable teammates or wonky AI. But you're complaining about certain guns not having noticeable upgrades when that was almost specifically taken care of by badass points and class mods which give you stat boosts to any percentage you can imagine no matter what weapon you use.

How much have you actually played of either game?

I've played a good portion of the first game, actually. However, from all the reviews and fan-playthroughs of part 2 I've seen so far (TotalBiscuit, Jesse Cox, Yogscast, etc), nothing has convinced me that the second part is worth playing because it's really not all that different from the first one.

Don't get me wrong - If you like Borderlands and that kind of game, more power to you. I'm not at all perturbed at people being excited over the game. All I'm saying is that it's not really the kind of game I enjoy putting a lot of time in to. I really REALLY like the art style and setting, but the gameplay just ISN'T MY THING. I'm not trying to troll or harass the people who enjoy it. I'm just giving my opinion on it.

Finally got around to adventuring with my roommate today in coop. Rolled the Siren and he rolled Zero. Managed to snag level 9 and enter Sanctuary in the 3 hours or so we played.
He somehow managed to snag ALL the best weapons leaving me with the stock golden guns for most of my time. Although I DID get an awesome little revolver that's super accurate and can fire as fast as I want it to. Managed to trump all the other pistols I've found thus far. Love it to death.
Also grabbed an explosive assault rifle from the roommate as he was doing some inventory cleaning.

Got myself a new weapon slot and spent my Eridium on boosting my backpack space so I can carry his leftovers back to town after our long aimless wondering/ murder sprees. Cash is pretty worthless it seems, but I've found some good stuff in the vending machines a few times and playing the slots is kind of fun. (thanks for the help!)

If you ever decide you have too much money, start tipping Moxxi and playing the slots. Moxxi gives you the Good Touch and the Bad Touch, which are fire and corrosive, at certain milestones of tipping her. They are incredible SMGs (I have both from level 26. I'm still using both at level 36), and there is an achievement/trophy for tipping her 10k. Now for some general tips and tricks:
>The scale terms of item quality tends to be Enemies -> Shops -> Bosses/Chests -> Gold Chest
Search/Smash things religiously. There are a metric ton of player skins/heads, and vehicle paint jobs, and the majority of them will be found in trash/skag/refuse piles. Not only that, but some decent weapons (to sell or use) can be found in them, as well as money and eridium.
>Never drop items to give them to another player. It only takes 50 trades with other players to complete the 'Psst, hey buddy...' challenge, and Bad Ass Tokens are Bad Ass Tokens.
If you need kills (melee, weapons, elements, or skill), feel free to travel to low level areas and slaughter everything repeatedly. A level 20 white tier Tediore pistol tends to be way too weak at the part of the game you find it in, but fast travel back to the Southern Shelf, and you'll find you can get all 300 reload throw kills rather easily. Also, you'll find that barrel kills are a lot easier to get on low level bandits.
AMP shields are odd in the fact that shooting when they are full gives a bit of bonus damage, but takes a chunk out of itself when you do. The damage bonus is the odd part; sniper rifles, rocket launchers, SMGs, and assault rifles do not gain much from the boost. However, when you use an AMP shot with a shotgun, the bonus applies to every pellet fired. I recently found an AMP shield that gives a 1000+ damage bonus when fired; with this boost, even a low level triple barrel shotgun can end up one shotting enemies in the second play through. Also, the AMP bonus damage can be used in another way: a Tediore throwing reload with a full AMP shield will gain the bonus of the boost, but will not activate the shield penalty.
>Maylay shields come in two varieties: slow and fast. Slow Maylay shields tend to have massive damage boosts (I've seen 2k+), but have agonizingly slow recharge delay (I've seen 8 seconds). Fast Maylay shields give a much smaller damage boosts (Highest I've seen with 500ish), but come back faster than most other shields (1.75 to 2.5 seems to be the average).
Bullet absorbing shields only give you the type of ammo you're shot with when they absorb, and can only absorb bullets. This means that in order to get SMG ammo, you must be shot with an SMG. It also means that you cannot absorb any Torgue weaponry, rockets, grenades, or E-tech of any sort.
>Remember to aim down sights with shotguns, even if they have those silly scopes for no good reason. It tightens the spread of even the most inaccurate shotgun by a good deal.
Enemies with red HP bars are considered flesh, and weak to fire, barring element immunities. Enemies with thick, yellow HP bars are considered armored, and are susceptible to corrosion. Equip appropriately.
Tediore reload throws do damage in relation to ammunition left in the magazine. Firing one shot then throwing will do a lot more damage than emptying the magazine and throwing. Be aware, however; Tediore reloads use up every bullet left in the magazine, even if you didn't actually fire them. Shooting once then throwing a pistol with 11 bullets left in the magazine of a pistol before reloading will cost 11 bullets from your total supply.
>DAHL guns always burst fire, but when fired from the hip, they can be either semi-automatic or fully automatic.
Hyperion pistols and SMGs with small magazines are not worth the effort or the wasted ammunition. A Hyperion sniper rifle is still as accurate as any other sniper rifle, but have a ridiculous amount of swaying until the third shot or so. Only use if your other option is something like a DAHL sniper rifle that only exists to eat your pathetically small supply of sniper ammunition. Hyperion single barrel shotguns tend to be incredibly effective, provided their magazine is large enough.
>Excluding sniper rifles, the listed fire rate on a Jakobs gun means next to nothing, so don't fret about it
Torgue guns will always be slow (both fire rate and bullet travel speed), and always be explosive. This may mean that they are slightly behind in DPS compared to other guns, but every Torgue gun has a blast radius, giving some leeway in terms of aiming. If using a Torgue rocket launcher, be aware of the fact that the bullet speed penalty still applies. Even if it does do 13k damage at level 18, the rocket might move so slow that you can literally outrun it.
>Just because it has e-tech, doesn't mean it's useful. Dart handguns have a delay before exploding, and are incapable of critting. Homing bullets aim for center mass, making any attempt at to headshot a bandit moot. However, nothing says you mean business like a shotgun that shoots balls of lava. Balance awesomeness and utility.
Saw blades launched from Bandit Technicals count as melee kills and attacks. Barrels count as explosives (yet not as barrel kills, sadly).
>Even if it says it uses multiples (2, 3, 4, 8) of ammunition to fire, one round left in the magazine will give the full effect. A double barrel shotgun with a magazine size of one effectively saves you a single shell per reload.
If you buy Hyperion, you buy from Jack

Was looking through the Badass achievements a few days ago and saw the trading thing, already maxed that out by trading nothing for a few minutes with my roommate.

Excluding rockets and e-tech, yes they count as bullets.
>>164132
E-tech is 'rare,' being high quality blue to high purple in terms of how rare they are. There is no guarantee they'll show up, but they're their. The Dahlminator is a guaranteed e-tech weapon, being a flechete/dart handgun. It's really obvious when you have an e-tech weapon, so don't worry about accidentally selling an element gun thinking it was e-tech. E-tech is shit like penetrating laser beams, bouncing rail blasts, darts, literal balls of elements that bounce and slide before exploding. Very badass.
>> No. 164138
>>164134
e-tech also doesn't seem to count as a "real" weapon in the challenges as it doesn't up purple or orange item counters. Its more like alien guns but made by Jack. It's nice to stumble on them, but more often than not you don't really need the specialty they use when you actually stumble on them. Then again all I've found are fucking dart pistols and chemical sprays.

Its sad that so far all we've seen of the megacorporations is the ruins of Dahl's failed excursion, Jackob's horrible commitment into getting lumber, and at this point I guess both Atlus and and Hyperion's fiscal meltdown in trying to get the sweet Alien tech from Pandora.

I guess there is always DLC hope and some of the promotional videos to oogle, but I want to meet the "military hippies" of Maliwan.

I found Jimmy Jenkins!! - Borderlands 2youtube thumb
http://www.g4tv.com/videos/60910/borderlands-2-jimmy-jenkins-easter-egg-video/

Jimmy Jenkins was this joke sprite that was apparently so popular with the Gearbox staff that they simply had to add him into the game. There are various missing posters about levels that taunt you while you search for him, because the asshole is specifically linked to a special challenge called JENNNNNNKINS where it counts how many times YOU personally find and kill him. The problem is that like all loot midgets where he pops out of chests is randomized, and on top of that Jenkins himself is another fucking multiplier which is almost harder to crack than the likelihood of finding rare heads, legendary guns, or making a varkid fully transform into Vermivorous the Invincible. So in essence you have to run around the whole goddamn game wondering if he'll pop out of a small container you just opened because he doesn't have a set encounter location like any other boss or monster.

So there are many forums and videos where people are either priding themselves on finally killing the shithead or repetitively asking WHERE'S JIMMY over and over. It's really frustrating.

Handsome Jack honestly reminds me of GLaDOS in how I find myself putting serious thought into how much of their (hilariously unreliable) word lines up with the actuality. Case in point: at first I rolled with the straightforward story that Angel had killed Jack's wife, until someone brought up the possibility of Jack doing it himself, at which point I was hit with growing horror at how it would be completely in-character for him to do that and resort to "look what you've made me do" to put the blame on someone else.

On a tangent, someone should totally recreate Jack in Saints Row.
