Now that Kenny has posted the ep. I can officially say that this project was mindbendingly long. From when I started helping there were no less than 3 days of 5+ hours proofreading, untranslatable joke brainstorming, and late nights on Kenny's side of things, people passing out; and that was just the proofreading stage! Lord knows how many hours went into the transcripting, translating, and subbing parts. I now see how easy it is for things to go downhill if these guys are pressed for time.

Thank you Kenny, Frenchy (wherever you are), and the other proofreaders for your time and dedication.

I shudder to think of the job of tackling Ep. 12, since it's supposed to be longer than 11!

Now if you'll excuse me. I'm off to watch the ep. after forbidding myself from seeing it before there were subs out.

Ep.11's translator will probably help with ep.12, but he won't handle the whole episode translation like he did for ep.11. In fact he's already busy with other projects, and only worked on ep.11 because he happened to have some time to spare.

And yes: he's not a MLP fan. He just wanted to remain anonymous, and I came up with this random and somewhat funny idea refering to the current MLP trolling on 4chan.

I love the Boufbowl Glove, it's so Brakyoutube thumb

Unlimited charges for the win!

A fan of Bonta Boufbowl compiled this video from unofficial, not to mention non-doctored, game footage, exposing the legendary Masked Boufbowler's copious use of Glove Charges in the absence of what he believed to be any real skill or technique.

Unable to trace his whereabouts and being unfamiliar with the very concept of the Wik-Fi net the video was posted on, rabid fangirls, followed shortly after by very enthusiastic fanboys, proceeded to smash every computer in the region they could get their hands on.

Oddly enough, they left their S.M.A.R.T Phones alone.

Another random translation question for those who speak French:

If I've tracked it correctly with the subs, the French word for felines in the World of Twelve is chat-chat, which Google says translates to cat-cat. Does anyone know how Ankama got "bow meow" from that? Is there some reference or slang going on, or is it just that cat-cat sounds sillier in English than in French? Also, what's the equivalent French for bow wows?

Sorry for the esoteric language questions. I'm a bit of an armchair linguist and stuff like this fascinates me. :)
>> No. 40124
>>40123
English = French = Ankama fr = Ankama en
Dog = Chien = Chienchien = Bow Wow
Cat = Chat = Chacha = Bow Meow
Mouse = Souris = Sousouris = Moumouse

Calling a dog "doggy", for example, is commonly done as "chien chien" in French. I can't even remember if we do the same with "chat chat" -- if so, it's not as frequent. Either way I assume the other two are derived from that.

"Bow wow" is an English onomatopoeia for a dog barking. Once again, it seems Bow Meow was derived from it. Moumouse, on the other hand, followed the French structure instead for some reason (probably for lack of a better solution, although at this rate it might have been Bow Mouse).

Thanks!

So chacha might be considered roughly analogous to "kitty-cat"?

It mostly struck me as odd because in English the names are alliterative plays on the animal's signature sound, but in French, the name is more directly related to the actual creature's name, but cute-ified.

I've been trying for a while to decide whether it's legitimate for someone who doesn't know otherwise to call a bow meow a cat, given that the English word rather pointedly avoids doing so. But if the French word does, then it's probably valid.
>> No. 40126
>>40125
> So chacha might be considered roughly analogous to "kitty-cat"?
Pretty much. As I said, though, I can't remember if we actually say it in real life. I don't, personally. And in the Ankama-verse, it's the actual name of what we call cats (they don't have cats and bow meows), so it's not a cutified alternate name.

Up til recently, I would have told you I've never seen "chat" or "chien" in Ankama's stuff, even in standard idioms containing them, but Remington 4 has "chat de gouttière" ("stray cat"). I would have expected "chacha de gouttière", given their track record. Now it kind of throws my previous paragraph's argument off balance.
>> No. 40127
>>40126
>so it's not a cutified alternate name.

Sorry, I meant alternate from what we call them on Earth, since just about everything in the Wo12 seems to have been cute-ified in some way (orcs -> bworks, chicken -> tofus, peacocks(?) -> piwis, etc).

So for the standard idioms, do they just swap in chacha or chienchien? I wonder if it's a typo in Remington 4, if they've been that careful up 'til now.
>> No. 40128
>>40127
> So for the standard idioms, do they just swap in chacha or chienchien?

Usually, as far as I've seen, yes. I was wondering if it's a mistake as well.

Another example I just remembered is Quaquack for ducks. French is Coincoin, same as the onomatopoeia we use for them (minus the space or hyphen).
>> No. 40129
>>40128
>Quaquack for ducks. French is Coincoin, same as the onomatopoeia we use for them

Huh, neat. I hadn't seen ducks yet.

It sounds like Ankama is really going for the repetitive/consonance sound with creature names. Which might explain why we ended up with "bow wow" and "bow meow" instead of doggie and kitty-cat, and why "moumouse" trumped, say, "squeak-squeak" or even bow mouse, which is much closer but doesn't roll off the tongue like moumouse.

Sax Man (feat. Ruel Stroud)youtube thumb

The Lonely Island of Wakfu and Tenacious Stroud's Ruel Stroud joined forces alongside an unnamed saxophone virtuoso to deliver the ultimate rap-jazz-folk-rock fusion offering the World of Twelve has ever seen.

Unfortunately, the Sax Man wasn't so much a virtuoso as he was a so-so, a hardly-so, a not-so.

Will the performance inspire love and goodwill in all those who hear it, or will it end up infuriating and enraging the entire World of Twelve?

Revolution or just plain revolt?

Fun or refund?

Raves or Stark Ravings?

Mobs (the good kind) or Mobs (the bad kind)?

Find out in the musical production that had both The Lonely Island of Wakfu and Ruel Stroud saying at the end:

"Oh sh**!"

Islands of WakF-?!youtube thumb

It's bigger, It's wilder, and It's here,

Stuffed with even more outrageous sketches and punctuated by an alarming rise in pixel quality, Islands of WakF- has finally arrived,

Boasting over 5 minutes of pop culture pandemonium:

Samuel L. Jackson tries to give some spiritual advice to a wayward protagonist, which turns out to be dubious at best!

Igole's fabled, long-lost Disney Audition Demo Tape is finally revealed!

Grovy discovers Eva and Amalia's ZONE flash game related shenanigans inspiring anger, awkwardness and ambivalence (not necessarily in that order). Guest starring Mae Whitman as Amalia!

Qilby attempts to reinvent himself to win the favor of the people, but his new moniker leaves much to be desired!

A special music guest star sensation sends a message to all of Brakmar that could knock them off their feet and out of the closet, but telling them its okay all the while!

And a whole lot more!

Also The Mmmmmmmmmporg would like to remind everyone that there isn't a secret sketch that lies somewhere over the 5 minute line. Although if there was, it would be pretty damn awesome, rest assured.

Frenchy gives up his job as main translator for the show.
He doesn't exactly quit the team, though. He'll still help with proofreading and such.

As far as I'm concerned, I give up the subs making part of my job (timings and French transcript). From now on, I intend to only handle the "technical" part of the releases (capture, encoding, editing, muxing, QC and upload).

The fact is this project has become far too much time consumming for us two; with this boufbowl arc dealing a final blow to our motivation. It's time some "fresh" people take over part of the tasks.

We'll need to recruit:
-translators
-subs makers
-someone to do the French transcript
-someone to organize and lead the live proofreading sessions

This is still in discussion among the current team. We'll see how things will turn out after the summer hiatus.

Mind if I answer this myself ?

Okay, where do I begin?
First of all, sorry for playing hermit these last few weeks, but it took me time to simply know what I wanted to do. Let's just say that my IRL became a bit more "interesting" than I usually like it to be, pushing this project way back in the list of things I worry about. Things like a new job, new occupations, new people, moving to a place where I was cut from the internet for a while, etc ....
However, that's only part of the problem. Even before that, and still today, I think my motivations to run this project slightly waned. I've started doing this as a hobby, because I liked it. But with time, it became less of a hobby and more of a chore. Doing a translation once is fun, but doing it on a weekly basis ends up taking a lot of your spare time, and not always when you'd like it to. When the fun goes away, it's time to hand over the job to someone else. I like the series and I don't want to start hating it because of that project.

I'm not quitting completely, however this will be my last episode as a main translator. I'll still contribute as a proofreader, and help with the occasional linguistic or cultural conseling. This means we have to find a new main translator (maybe even two, alternately) before new episodes start airing again.

In fact, we need even more volunteers. I'm not the only one getting a bit tired, Kenny too wants to make his workload a bit lighter. He will still provide the raws and the occasional proofreading, but concerning transcription and subs timing, he's in the same situation as me. So we're also recruiting people to do these tasks.

I'm currently waiting private answers from the rest of the team to know who wants to stay and who wants to stop, so I'll update these "job opportunities" to maybe include some proofreaders if needed.

Currently recruiting :
- 1 or 2 main translators (ideally at least one english native)
- 1 transcriptor (fro the french subs)
- 1 person to do the timings for the subs

Not wanting to put this thing on a downer, but I just found these pair of posts on 4chan's /co/:

In reference to "with this boufbowl arc dealing a final blow to our motivation" from Kenny's post:
>Fuck Brakmar! Fuck Brakmar Boufbowl! FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!! This was a waste of time and cost us our sub team! It was all made up words, recycled footage, piss-poor action and inappropriate anime references!!! FUCK THESE EPISODES!!! FUCK THEM!!! WORTHLESS PIECES OF UNNECESSARY BORING SHIT!!! FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The second half better pick up the goddamn slack because this second season has been all kinds of disjointed and this Boufbowl arc was fucking shit, FUCKING SHIT!!! FUCKING SHIT!!! SKIPPABLE USELESS FUCKING SHIT!!!!

& in reference to 2 people telling him to calm down:
>You guys are right, you're both tottally right, it's just ending not only the first half of Season 2 on such a mediocre, subpar, even terrible note but the tenure of our best translators as well, it's a shame, a fucking shame.
>FUCK BRAKMAR AND ITS ENTIRE POPULATION OF CLOSET FAGGOTS!!!

>FUCK YOU, YOU LAME-ASS GAY ASS SHIT SHIT SHIT TRILOGY!!!!

I did enjoy this arc too. I think these episodes are among the funniest since the beginning of the season, and they cracked me up more than once.

>our decision is unrelated to the actual content of the episodes.
Indeed. What I said in my previous post might have been misinterpreted.
When I said "the boufbowl arc dealt a final blow to our motivation", it was not because of the content of the episodes itself, but because they were damn dialogue tricky and heavy.

As far as I'm concerned, it took me ages to do the timings with the French transcription. It just confirmed what I already knew: I'm a pitiful noob at using Aegisub (the subbing software). It takes me up to one hour to time and transcript properly 2 minutes of subs in such dialogue heavy episodes, and that awfully sucks for a subber! That's why I'm giving up that part of my job, letting someone more "efficient" than me doing it.

I'll willingly do it if I'm wanted, but I'm far from ideal -- I'm not totally fluent in French, I just have good reading comprehension (idioms and wordplay and cultural references are beyond me, and Ankama really likes those). I'm also 5 hours behind France, which makes collaboration pretty inconvenient.

Nothing has been decided yet. Don't jump to conclusions.

What I personally don't want to see some anime sub-group pick this up and act like dicks about it, e.g. "ooo we're not releasing episode such-and-such of Wakfu because of XXX, YYY and ZZZ and MASSAGE MY EGO PLEASE!!!!11". Hopefully this will never happen.

The fact that for S2, this was done consistently by the +4 guys and independently of any sub group is a positive in my eyes. I have only been in the Wakfu fanbase for just over 2 months now, but I've heard about the inconsistencies of the subbing of S1, and from what I did hear, it wasn't very nice (regarding release dates of the subs).

You people here have done a wonderful job for the fandom, and I can only offer this reaction image as a response. Long live & prosper!

Mark Hamill's Nox?! (LM-G1 Fandub)youtube thumb

Some Wakfu fans have got it in their heads that Mark Hamill would make a good Nox.

Luckily for them, LordMegatronG1 (the aspiring voice actor, not the ruthless robot that can transform into a pistol) is around to give a pretty good approximation of what that would be like via reciting some choice bits of Nox dialogue in a fashion not unlike the one Hamill employs while voicing some of his most memorable roles such as The Joker and Fire Lord Ozai. All this, synced with matching clips from the show.

A scintillating semi-collab that, quite honestly, only took 20 minutes to put together.

I don't know about that. I'm a Canadian French native myself and the number of cultural references and jokes I miss is astonishing, so it really isn't just about understanding French. The idea behind this is to speed up the process.
A native english translator has an easier time making a script that sounds good and natural to begin with, so it's faster to write in the first place, and it's faster to proofread since we're not dealing with gramatical oddities/mistakes, or things that sound off every 4 lines.
In this case, spotting the cultural references, puns and so on is the job of the proofreaders (some of them have to be french of course, but mind you, some english proofreaders are still needed)

In the current format, it takes me 4 to 6 hours just to produce a raw script. Pausing every 2 lines to check a bilingual dictionary, finding several formulations for a single sentence, or trying to explain a pun/cultural reference for the english proofreaders, etc ....
Then the proofreading sessions spend a lot of focus fixing things that sound off, when they're not simply wrong gramatically, on top of the basic translation choices.
This process is inefficient, slow and tiresome at all stages.

> A native english translator has an easier time making a script that sounds good and natural to begin with

Well, no offense, but a bilingual/professional-level translator wouldn't have that problem (if we're lucky enough to find one, obviously). Leaving the puns to the proofreaders makes no sense to me, to be honest. You'd basically have people revising the translation while a bunch of sentences are changed because puns pop up and the sentences have to be remade from scratch. That would draw out proofing considerably, especially when several lines are made to reference one another (take the stadium line from ep. 12 for example). The amount of puns in these things alone makes it sound ludicrous.
>> No. 40386
>>40381
>Well, no offense, but a bilingual/professional-level translator wouldn't have that problem
well no offense but if Ankama made an english sub / dub themselves, it would be even easier ....
I'm doing what I can with what I have, or with what I can reasonably expect to obtain. Unless you have a professional proofreader ready at hand ....

>Leaving the puns to the proofreaders makes no sense
It makes perfect sense when even a pun-heavy episode takes less time to proofread that way than with the current way.
Puns may INDIVIDUALLY take more time to work with than basic vocabulary or grammar issues, but these take much more time to fix than puns due to the sheer number of occurences.
To this day, none of the translators who have worked on this project have a good enough handle at the english language, that proofreading grammar and vocabulary takes less time than puns.

Well, in that case wouldn't the easiest way to translate the episodes be to have one native English speaker who knows French and one native French speaker who knows English?

Furthermore, the less people work on the translation the better - too many cooks spoil the broth. Two translators and two additional proofreaders would make the best combination. Yes, SOMETIMES a pun could be lost or a sentence could sound a bit off, but 1) it wouldn't happen often, and 2) there are no perfect translations. You know the saying: translations can be either faithful or beautiful, but not both. So why not find the golden mean between both speed and quality? Making the best translation possible is very tiresome, and your personal experience only confirms it. So why not back off just a little bit and lose not more than 10% of overall quality by improvising (or skipping) where you have trouble finding a literal translation for a non-plot important pun, but finish the translation 50% quicker?

But heck, what do I know?

That's pretty much what I'm asking in >>40324

>Two translators and two additional proofreaders would make the best combination
Not really. In my experience after half a season, 4-5 people is the sweet spot (meaning a few more people on the team when you account for the fact that not everyone can be aviable at the same time, everytime).
Also, among those people, you need about 3 english natives for those cases when you have to use your imagination rather than basic translation skills (some very tricky puns, rhymes, alliterations, equivalent cultural references, etc ...). Ideally, we should also take people from different origins (US english, British english, ...) but that might be asking too much.
>> No. 40396

>But how would you have two translators working on the same episode?
You wouldn't, my idea of 2 translators is just to avoid one person losing motivation after a while (just like it happend to me as a translator or to kenny as as timer/transcriptor). They would translate episodes in turns (or whatever rythm they like).
Also note that I said 1-2 translators, it's a suggestion, not a necessity. If we can find someone who will do the rest of the season all by himself, then fine.

A 25 min anime consists approximately of 5 minutes of screaming/shouting/moaning/uguu-ing, 5 minutes of repeated one-liners and exclamations, 3 minutes of silence, and very often these days, 2 minutes of recap snippets from the pervious episode.

So an anime sub team only has to translate 10 minutes of simplified conversation aimed at insipid weaboos, with little-to-no intelligent puns or play on words to deal with.

What a ridiculous generalisation; I know of at least a fair few anime series where that doesn't apply.
Were you the same person who posted pic related on the BoT tumblr a while ago? Do you not watch any anime outside of the Big 3 by any chance?

>Primadonna hissy fits
Only from incredibly impatient people who have contributed zero to the fanbase, much like yourself.

>month long waits
Those weren't intentional: you do know that, right? The fact that other people actually volunteered to translate the episodes in the end instead of waiting for Frenchy to return to do them is a whole lot better, no matter what the timeframe was. Besides, with the show not returning until September at the earliest, would it have really mattered if the subbers took a long time? Better for them to be released slowly & done right rather than done quickly but of a poor quality.

You also quite clearly don't recognise the subgroup meta-culture. Some of their egos are absolutely fucking ridiculous, not to mention that certain groups will make fake subs because they don't like the show they're subbing (*cough cough*gg*cough cough*) or just drop the show altogether because they don't like it (I'm pretty sure that some groups have dropped a show because of what happened to a certain number of character(s)).

Just imagine if one day, out of the blue, Kenny & Frenchy had said something like "We don't like Wakfu anymore and therefore we will not sub the rest of the series. Deal with it"? That would be fucking horrible for the fanbase, not to mention that there would endless amounts of rage over it. With certain subgroups, this sort of announcement happens quite a lot. Guess what would happen if XXX sub group didn't like Wakfu? DROPPED

I wouldn't blame them. They're doing it for their own enjoyment as well as providing a service to the community. If even watching the show becomes a chore, I'm sure they would hate translating it. Obviously, I'm assuming they would let us know in advance and not go "Hey you know what, fuck this" out of the blue, which would at the very least be impractical.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at; some subgroups just make an announcement, saying "We're dropping this show, sorry" with no prior warning. If that happened with Wakfu, then I'm sure that would turn off quite a few Wakfu fans.

Well, I was going through the cutscenes (taking videos of or downloading from Ankama site/Youtube) and covering up the text, then replacing it with approximate English translations. I think I should probably try again, because my knowledge of French has improved considerably since I translated them...
I've done Chapters 1 and 4 in season one, and Fraise's first appearance in season 2. I'm working on Eliane's and Origin now. I also have translations (but missing the videos) of Chapters 3, 5 and 6 of season one.

Ah, I see. Are the cutscenes enough to really understand the story or is it just brief passages of the major events? If the former, I think that approach could be better than trying to rip the entire game since most people are mostly looking for the story.

And while we're at it, can I download an example somewhere?

For season 1, I'd suggest only the chapters (The Fall, Destruction of Emrub, whatever chapter 4 is/are called, Heart of Ice and Requiem) as well as the notes. None of the episode dungeons are related to the story of Emrub, which focuses around N. Chapter two would be a difficult one, but since it's Sakai (in Dofus), it's all pre-translated.

Season two is more integrated. Anything that refers to the "Key" should be translated, really. But cutting it back... hmm, I'd say Cyd vs Ghouls, Eliane and her crew, Chaptre 1: The Blades and some of the notes. Fraise and Remington doesn't seem yet to be particularly attached to the story, and Ze Grine/Ze Green in the tavern doesn't seem relevant yet. The various threads may come together later, however.

Despite saying Fraise and Remington shouldn't be translated... well, that's the only one I have for season two yet. Translation is a bit clumsy in places, but it was the best I could do at the time. I'd probably translate it slightly differently (and better) now. I don't know hot to do links here, hope this works: http://s883.photobucket.com/albums/ac35/Miroavis/WLG%20Vids/?action=view&current=Fraisecutscene.mp4

Season one, well, I've done chapter one. I did most of the translation myself, but I had to take the translation for Nox's second line from the translation in the episode because I just couldn't make out/understand his words. The Fall - Naïl ends up in Frigost.
Destruction of Emrub - Naïl returns, fights his old friends, ruins the village, gets skewered by Lune, she goes blind.
whatever chapter 4 is/are called - The Council of Nelba sentences Naïl to imprisonment in a dungeon, Balthazar makes everyone forget, hides the ruins of the old village.
Heart of Ice - Eliatropes find the old ruins, Naïl escapes the dungeon, turns into the purple monster.
Requiem - Naïl regains his sanity, fights Balthazar and Boa, Emrub is disintegrated.

Am I close? I saw some cutscenes translated from the German sub of the game, but no voice acting there.

In season two, Emrub is destroyed and the Eliatropes are exploring the World of Twelve in an attempt to find the "Key" in order to repair Emrub or something along those lines. I haven't looked closely at everything that's been said about the Key yet, but I have kept a record.
Anyway, they are actually in the World at the same time as the series, usually a little after the characters have been through. They were in the mirror room in Rubilaxia after the mirror was smashed, but presumably before it was flooded.
I don't know how it corresponds for the player characters, but the main NPCs (so far, Barron, Cyd, Enola, Fraise and Eliane and her crew) are actually there.

Dunno, what's the quote? They're still in Emrub, technically, but Emrub doesn't seem to be as cut off from the world as it was. It's separated into islands, which so far are Viele, the Plains of Viele, the Island of Folley, Twilight Island (subarea: Plains of Ice), Vili (subarea: Mountain) and The City of Aspira. We're also expecting the Isle of the Goddess, and an extension to Aspira.

Notes as I wandered through my records of NPC dialogues:
Assistant de Cyd - Cyd is the head of the council of the biggest city of Emrub! He's searching for the "Key" with Barron.
The "Key"?
I don't know any more... Ask Enola, she's better informed!
Enola - Cyd and Barron are searching for it... They think it'll let us get out of Emrub.
Cyd - something about observing the Ginger Warrior. He and Barron think he might have some information. This is in Rubilaxia, mind you.
Something about following a bad path (wrong lead?). They'll have to keep looking.
Fraise's message (on Jera), addressed to Cyd, says "I think I've found a lead. I'll go search alone." Except she seems to be researching a "Zaap-Stone", which lights up blue when a Zaap is nearby.
The Blades are trying to stop our heroes discovering the "Key", or at least, that's what Cyd reckons.

Personally, I think the Key is Baltazar's Dofus, but of course, I could be wrong. A number of people were suggesting that Baltazar is in the Plains of Viele, near the "most beautiful view point", because if you look closely at the map, there's a dragon. Who knows? I still don't know if anyone worked out anything useful from the notes on the map back in April...

If you ask Remi et Grany in Rubilaxia, they think you're talking about the key to the window. Nothing useful from them...

Apparently Fraise has a library in Aspira.

I think he pulled something similar in the first game, with hiding N away, yet dropping clues and notes about his existence and the existence of the old, destroyed village.

It's more likely to be Cyd being Cyd. In season one, after Cyd locked N up in the prison he'd built, it seems Baltazar went and wiped everyone's memories. The notes (actually extracts from everyone's diaries) show that some people started to remember. Kouett remembered a lot, Lune had nightmares, and Boa was shown the fight (Chapter 3) by a Pikoui (probably Pikwi in English, going by the German). Barron discovered something from his research, but he never said what, and Fraise was on the verge of discovering something, but was too easily distracted.
Anyway, the only thing that Baltazar did was drop the draconic stones around Emrub, which warned people not to talk about N, and that N was dangerous, things like that.
In Chapter 6 (Requiem), N turned to ice and shattered. Boa and Baltazar took the brunt of the explosion.
The "Premier re/veille/" (early riser? first awake?) in Viele tells you that there is no news of Baltazar or of N, and he doesn't know anything about Kouett, Zora or Boa either.

Cyd always seemed like a gullible yes-man in season 1. I wouldn't be surprised if others had caught on and were doing their own expeditions without him. Barron's notes, based on what I could understand from the web translations, indicates he had discovered a lot of stuff related to the world beyond Emrub, but he tried to keep it hidden, especially from Fraise. I guess that backfired now that she's wandered off to investigate on her own. Those stuffed animals she makes, does she also use Wakfu to make them come alive? She seems to have one with her that appears to be alive...
>> No. 40509

Cyd, a yesman? Never would have thought of that. An arrogant idiot, perhaps. He never listened to anyone else, even when they knew far better than him. Kouett told him not to be blinded by fear (note 25), and he didn't pay the slightest bit of attention. He thought he had everything in hand, and paid more attention to his picnic with Blinie.
There's no proof that he was following Baltazar's instructions at all, or whether he just invoked the dragon's name to give himself more authority.
Barron never commits to paper (or at least never to the notes) what he's discovered. He says that, "my researches are becoming more and more dangerous", and he decides to keep them from Fraise for that reason.
Fraise's plushies... don't know much about them. In battles, she summons a stuffed gobball, which she can cause to fight or heal (it has a very poor AI). The one in her artwork is called Poquelin. It looks alive somehow...

In terms of Balthazar, Cyd seems to pick his side unquestioningly. That's what I meant.

Barron is interesting because he seems to have been suspicious of the whole Emrub thing from the get-go. In the council cut-scene, he argues that banishment for N is possibly too harsh and that he might have stumbled upon something on the outside. He's the only one who really defends N, despite his actions (wounding several people, totalling the village etc.). Barron's also the first to get up and leave once Cyd makes his judgement and the meeting ajourns.

23 episodes of season 1 are edited so far. That includes episode 25, which I went and did early. Episodes 23, 24, and 26 are all I have left to fiddle around with.

I remember that "anniversaire" in episode 2 was translated as "anniversary" rather than the correct "birthday" (in that context). I also remember that Igôle was mistranslated as Higole in episode 20 I think.

Maybe looking over this re-sub could be a test for any future Wakfu subbers?

Ep. 10 when Ruel tries to buy boat tickets, he's asking for "One adult and four kids" . The original subtitles had the numbers reversed

Ep. 15 or 16 (not sure) Amalia talks about her "brother Armand". the original sub had this translated as "cousin Armand" somehow

Ep. 17 when Grougal is about to breathe at point blank on Nox, Nox says something like "now that's really gonna hurt" (could also translate it as "Now that's gonna hurt real bad" or simply "now that's gonna hurt"). The original sub had it all wrong once again.

Episodes 24 and 26 are done, so that means I've now edited every single episode of season 1.

Features:
1) 75% of the script is re-worded in some way to eliminate awkward dialogue.
2) More consistency between episodes.
3) Better timing in some areas.
4) Less typos.
5) Clean and easy-to-read font.
6) Clean and simple OP Karaoke

If you can't merge the subs, just install the font and drag the subs onto your video player. That should do the job if you use Media Player Classic (not sure about other players.)

Please head over here to read more and download a .zip containing everything: http://nine-lives-blade-works.blogspot.com/2011/09/cest-fini-all-of-subs-are-finished.html

Remember that these are based off of the DVD-rips linked to from Mutant Squid's blog. Some of the subs might not be timed correctly for the original TV-rips. (Either way, buy the DVDs if you can! Physical copies are the best.)

If anyone wants to continue to change these subtitles in some way, please feel free to use what I've already put out as a base. I'll gladly fix more errors down the road if you guys point out the problems, but if you or anyone else wants to take matters into their own hands, go right ahead! Take this with a grain of salt, as it partly made of assumptions :

There's currently a contest game on Ankama's website, called Puzzlequest, with a new challenge every week. When it was announced on the forums, it was introduced as "While waiting for new episodes, nothing like a little game ....".
This MAY (insist on that word) mean that new episodes would be aired after the end of that event. However, unlike the Niouzquest that preceeded season 2, there is a contest linked to that game and winners get some goods, so it would not be a nonsense to end this event after new episodes start airing, and that the phrasing was just a way to introduce the game, without any implication on the release date of new episodes (crosses fingers).

Now, here's where it can potentially be bad : in the rules of the contest, the last challenge will be online on october 14th. So IF (again, relevant word) there are ties between that contest and the end of the hiatus, that would mean no new episode before october 22nd at best

Not so much to learn more about him, as we have the comic for that, but to find out how he'd interact with the main cast, though truth be told that may very well depend on which of his personalities is in control at any given time.

In episode 6, Amalia's line at dissolves into complete gibberish ("Well, since we're he way may was try the local food"/Well, since we're here we may as well try the local food?)

Nox's dialogue at the beginning of episode 13 are a little awkward, particular at 2:30 ("This animal has become a fascinating attraction"), and 5:59-6:10 (Nox seems to be referring to as Ailbert's sacrifice as the "great mistake" in the conversation, which is obviously out of character).

I don't want your fucking Dofus Hack'n'Slash.

But the one project which is slightly original, fun to play, decent art and while pretty much standing on it's own still ties in neatly to the series PLUS being probably the most humble one besides the TD? Nah, axe that...

Not even having the modesty to tell us what was all planned storywise, how the Eliatropes past and future would go, what could have been, just wrapping it up "Hurray, they found the key. THE END!" is disgraceful.

They managed to screw Les Gardiens over - again. Even harder than the first time. Respect man, you need at least some ambition to accomplish that! Yes, I mad.

I'll give them 4-5 months until they once again delete it from their website. At least this time I'm okay with it. What ever this once promising project is now, it should be gone as soon as possible...

Hahaha, oh wow. That line in episode 6 is pretty great.

Thanks for pointing these all out. I've fixed the one in episode 6 and uploaded the revised file, but I'm a little unsure about how I should change the errors in episode 13.

>Episode 13: 2:28~2:32
>"This animal has become a fascinating attraction"
I didn't look at the word, "attraction" as an action of sorts, but as if Nox was referring to Igole as some_thing_ that draws interest. Like a carnival ride. "The yearly carnival held such fascinating attractions!"

Still, if that line is not an accurate translation, it could be changed to something better. As >>40723 suggested...
>"Humans and animals alike, it exerts a fascinating attraction on us."
I personally think that it still sounds a little weird, but that might be a better translation.

Let me know which one of these fits that line best (and is most accurate):
>"Humans and animals alike, it exerts a fascinating attraction over us."
>"Humans and animals alike, it affects us in fascinating ways..."
>"It has such a fascinating effect on humans and animals."
>"Both humans and animals, it's fascinating how it attracts us."
Of course, it doesn't have to be one of these sentences. Just tell me what you feel is best and I'll change the old line to whatever you want.

>What do the subs say?

>Episode 13: 5:57~6:01
The current lines go something like:
>"You should be able to understand me, Alibert."
>"You gave up your own life to save your son."
>"What if you could fix such a mistake... at the cost of another's life?"
>"Would you do it?"
How should I go about changing this?
>> No. 40726
>>40725
Well it's mostly correct, mainly change
>"What if you could fix such a mistake... at the cost of another's life?"
to
> "If you had a chance to fix a grave mistake at the cost of a few lives..."
(He actually says "redeem yourself for...", but IMO Nox is trying to fix the past, not exactly make amends.)

The line before, more literally is
> "You didn't hesitate a single moment before throwing your life away to save your son"
So I'd say it's correct as it is, although not as close to source.

For the attraction part, I'll leave it up to you for what sounds best; the meaning I already posted at >>40723

Speaking of The Black Knight, have a vid from a time before the World of Twelve revolved around Sir Sadlygrove de Percedal's love life, concerning the exploits of a Sacrier that isn't a vain sports star, and where black-clad musketeers actually use their swords more than once.

That's odd. I attached the font directly to the .ass file, so if it's muxed normally it should display the correct font for the chanting sequences in episodes 16 and 23. (Which is supposed to be an unreadable font. I added some references in as a joke.)

A friend of mine watched episode 16 on his laptop, and it worked fine even though he doesn't have that font installed. I thought it worked and simply kept it that way.

Is anyone else having this problem? If you can, please open up episode 16 with the edited subs and skip to 08:15. If you see a swirly, magical font for Grougaloragran's chant, let me know. If not, please mux the font linked to in >>40752 and that should make things nicer.

Yeah, his voice is pretty metallic, but it's probably because the TV rips had poorer audio and therefore you couldn't hear the effect as well. Unless his voice is seriously distorted, it's fine.

Wakfu: A quoi ca sert l'amour [YugAmi] HDyoutube thumb

To celebrate the original getting over 10,000 hits and counting, I've created a higher definition version of my first AMV, re-edited and undoubtedly remastered with Top Notch Quality Footage (ie Higher Quality) so that you can watch it in larger sizes without causing undue discomfort to yourselves. It's a much tighter and more cohesive affair, and shows what the video would've been like if I had been as skillful then as I am now with editing. So, enjoy.

A production that spans the story of these two young souls from the ends of their lives to their early years and finally, to the grand adventure they would come to share.

Played to the classic french love song "A quoi ca sert l'amour" as performed by legendary songbirds Edith Piaf & Theo Sarapo, theirs is a tale where laughter dances with tears, replete with comedy, camaraderie, and care

Will love blossom between these two young adventurers? Perhaps, perhaps not, but one thing's for certain, it's been one helluva friendship.

I saw Xa's artbook this morning on sale in a store next to where I live. Needless to say, I had a look at it.
Well, it's of course a nice quality artbook; and the few texts there are in it are written both in French and English.
However, aside of a very few pages of sketches, it contained nothing I didn't already see before somewhere on the web.

So, I'd say this is something you may consider buying only if you're a hardcore fan of Xa's work looking for a collector item. Otherwise you can get about everything that's in the book from Xa's blog and Deviant Art gallery.

Then there are the DVDs. Unfortunately they are not as high quality as the VODs. Still very good but there is still a difference.
That said, we (the sub team) encourage you highly to show your support for Ankama and buy that stuff instead of downloading it.
Ankama has let us fansubbers so far alone and its my personal opinion that its partly cause we refuse to RIP the DVD's or VOD files and put subs on them.

The streams I can get from France 3 are either in SD 576, or in HD 1080.
While the 1080 version is obviously an upscale, it's made by France 3, not by me. So I provide it "as is" not to lose even more quality by downscaling it again.

BTW, BoT as nothing to do with it; and I've already said that if someone feels like to release a 720 version out of my raws, please feel free to do so.

I didn't see it, unless you're referring to Ruel's quote at 2:05 which is technically not an Asterix reference, but one of Napoleon Bonaparte's famous quotes during the Campaign in Egypt.

Panoramix (Getafix in english) just happened to make a reference to Napoleon's quote in Asterix and Cleopatra.

There was also a very politically incorrect reference by Amalia :

BTW, just in case you'd like to know, the correct way to say it would be: "tu crois qu'on ne vous comprend pas?".

As for the "private conversation", well, it was not really a conversation to begin with. I just wanted to catch Frenchy's attention.
And since we're both French native speakers, we're obviously likely to speak in French from time to time, even here. We don't mean to be rude or anything, it's just easier for us this way. We keep it to a minimum though.

Things are moving again in the world of Wakfu with season 2 episode 13 airing on Saturday 29th. It's time we set up a new subbing team since, as you may all know, Frenchy and I are stepping back from the projet.

I sent a mail to the members of the former team as well as to the people who offered their help earlier in this thread (mail me if I forgot you) to see who's (still) up to do what.
But of course, new people can still apply now if they want to take part in the team, which is why I'm posting this here.

Here's what we need:
-Someone to do a transcript of the French dialogues
-Translators
-Someone who'll lead and organize the proofreading team and live sessions. Preferably, it should be one of the translators.
-Timers/subs makers

Mail me, or drop a post here with your e-mail attached if you're willing to help.

Thanks.

Hey, I know anime fanbsubs are all switching to Hi10p. Are you guys planning on doing that for Wakfu once it starts back up, or sticking to 8-bit?
>> No. 41372
>>41370
I think I'll stick to 8-bits for the time being, for compatibility matters and consistency over the season. Hi10p isn't common enough yet IMO.

Switching these encodes to 10 bit will offer virtually nothing.
>> No. 41378
>>41376
Offers lower filesize and a better compressed video along with higher quality in some areas that would have otherwise have banding in some parts of the video. Trade off is compatibility, increased encoding time, and a somewhat greater amount of cpu used during playback.

So as not to go overboard the way I understand it is that if you use 10-bit you can lower the crf value down by 2. So if you used crf 20 in 8-bit you can use crf 18 in 10-bit although it does all vary from video to video.
>> No. 41379
>>41378
I am fully aware of benefits the benefits of 10bit vs 8bit. The only benefit the SD files would gain is file size which is negligible at best since you cannot gain quality from that source. The tv rip files still have that blockiness to them and whatever quality gained is still off put by that, although, yes, file size reduction would be noticeable probably. It isn't worth it and the unfortunate few will not be able to watch them. 10bit might be useful for the VOD videos since you can already cut the file size in half
>> No. 41380
>>41379
SD files are mainly used for compatibility in the first place so 10-bit would not make much sense while HD files (720p and above) are mainly used for the highest quality possible without regard for compatibility in most cases. Personally I feel that is how it should be and doing both like that as such would try to keep everyone happy while still moving forward. Although I do see your point especially with tv rips.
>> No. 41382
10bit would be pointless. Neither the SD nor the HD rips are high enough quality to enjoy the benefits. The VOD files may be worth it, but it would be more sensible to just release those without any transcoding at all. And people already have problems getting the subs working (!!!) so releasing in a format that needs a whole new codec would just create more havoc.

Basically, this.

Unless we go for the VOD files (and we aren't doing that), switching to 10-bit has no point. Plus, one of the points of this project is making Wakfu avaliable for the most people possible, not create even more problems for those who aren technologically impaired.

People are blowing this out of proportion. Second Boufbowl Trilogy wasn't the best, but had some great moments. My only complaint is that we didn't get a real game to watch (like the long, single match in season 1), only something that could be called "general sillyness on the boufbowl stadium". But I understand that it came from the fact Ankama didn't want to repeat the same scenario and opted to try something new instead.

The old subbing team did a pretty consistent job. There was never an EXACT date of guaranteed release, but they only once failed to get the episode done before the next episode premiered, and that was when Frenchy was MIA.

This is a new team though, so their efficiency remains to be seen. Here's hoping they can keep up with their predecessors pace.
