Thanks for the episode team!

Also I noticed that the timing and pre-proofreading translation were all done by Tuesday of last week. If you need an extra pair of eyes and brains so you have more proofreaders to be available to consult on the script in a timely manner, I can help out. My French skills are basic, but they're getting better and I am a native English speaker with a good grasp of idiomatic expressions. I'm a full-time student, but I'm usually available by the afternoon (USA time). More importantly, I don't have school or any real obligations on the days the episodes air.

Can anyone point me towards some supplemental material for the Wakfuverse? I believe there were documents describing how the Races worked, and how Rushu was rejected by the gods and messed with Xelor's clock.

I'm trying to compile all the Wakfu backstory into a concise encyclopedia, and encyclopedias need citations.

Ah, I'm glad someone got down to it. Are you going to put that on a wiki or something?

As for your question, people usually start from here:

You'll probably also want to record this before it dies:

Here's the HD version of Ogrest.
Since the video is damn huge, I had to split it into 2 RAR archives:

-Part.1 => http://www.megaupload.com/?d=42ZIALHM
-Part.2 => http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AK5WX6Y5

Well, just get both parts, extract them, and you'll get your usual MKV softsubbed file.

Some kind anon(s) made some awesome posts on 4chan. I took the liberty of re-posting the info here:

From this month's Dofus Mag (issue #21):

Timeline:
- 10.000 years ago : The eliatropes disappear (events from Island of Wakfu)
- year 0 : Creation of Xelor's Clock
- year 26 : begining of the war between Bonta and Brakmar (the Crimson Dawn)
- Year 350 : Adventures of Arty & Goultard (events from the Dofus manga)
- Year 552 : Count Harebourg (Frifost gets frozen by Djaul, events from the current expansion in Dofus)
- Year 789 : Ogrest's Chaos : Ogrest drowns the world in his tears. The flood engulfs the lands and disrupts geography
- year 969 : birth of Yugo and Adamai
- year 981 : The Brotherhood of Tofu (events from the series)

More about Ogrest:
Contrary to previous rumors and interpretations, she didn't go bitch-mode "gimme da Dofuses for moar powa' ".
After being brought back to life, she fell in love with Ogrest, but shortly, she felt there was something wrong with her. She started to feel melancholic, but couldn't cry tears. The truth was there : she was still a rag-doll, not a real human.
Ogrest tried to cheer her up, and offered her a present : the dofus he had previously found. When she touched it, she felt a sudden surge of energy, her skin began to shiver, she felt warmth in her body. For a split second, she felt really alive .... but it vanished.
One Dofus wasn't powerful enough, but she thought maybe with all six Dofuses ... but she wasn't strong nough to do it. She talked about her thoughts to Ogrest who immediately offered his help. At first, she was hesitant, but she couldn't face Ogrest's determination. He was now tall and strong, a muscle mountain.
And then he went in search of the other Dofuses, filling his beloved's heart with hopes.
With time, Ogrest litterally became a titan. Nothing could resist him. He didn't even notice he wreaked havoc on his way, blinded by his obsession for his beloved.
One by one, the Dofuses' Guardians fell, making Ogrest even stronger with each new dragon egg. And one day, he finally gathered all 6 legendary eggs, making him the equal of a God.
The twelves saw the danger in him and decided to intervene. No one knows exactly how it happened, if they came themselves or if they sent the Month's Guardians, but a titans' fight occurred.

Dathura learnt about it and knew it was time to stop Ogrest. Her humanity wasn't worth the destruction, it wasn't worth... all this. She was also worried that Ogrest could be killed in the fight.

She finally found him during the battle, and stood on a rock atop a tall cliff. She shouted as loud as she could, but Ogrest couldn't hear her thin voice in the heat of the battle.
When he finally heard her, it was too late : she had just been bumped and fell off the cliff. Ogrest rushed to grab her ... in vain.

His heart broken, filled with rage and sorrow, he retired atop of the tallest mountain, Mount Zinit, and started to flood the world with his tears.

New music video: Everybody Loves You (Eva)youtube thumb

Using Cee Lo Green's "Everybody Loves You (Baby)"

The role of Cee Lo Green will be played by Princess Amalia. Now I know what you're thinking, but no, I didn't pick her just because the original artist had the word 'Green' in his name. She was chosen for purely thematic reasons, mostly.

Besides, if I had used Yugo instead, his Sexual Tyrannosaurus Body Chemistry, combined with the voice of The Ladykiller would be liable to cause a proverbial meltdown in the satisfaction centers of most.

This one was a lot of fun to do, in part because of the extremely catchy song, so it was done pretty quickly.

Enjoy.

1: Do you have a citation for this information? Occurred to me that I'm trying to be mostly factual with this and I need some backup.

2: Can anyone tell me the plots of A: Islands of Wakfu, and B: the Goultard Comics? Those are two important sections I'm getting stuck on.

3: Can anyone find me that paper which explains why Rushu hates the Gods and how he messed with their clock?

Can't help with anything else, but
>2: Can anyone tell me the plots of A: Islands of Wakfu

Hey, guess what I saved in a text file some time ago! Not my work, just reposting.

WALL OF TEXT INCOMING
This will explain everything about Qilby but it's major spoilers too

There are two parts to this: The game Islands of Wakfu and the actual series.

The game takes place some 10,000 years before the series, on another planet. This planet is actually the second planet the Eliatropes inhabited, after their first one was destroyed by mecha aliens called Mechasms. The Eliatropes had a council of six people and six dragons: Yugo/Adamai, Qilby/Shinonome, Glip/Baltazar, Chibi/Grougaloragran, Nora/Efrim and Mina/Faeris. All six of them are immortal, as when they die, their wakfu returns to their dofus, and when both Eliatrope and dragon are dead, and both have returned to their dofus, the wakfu recharging process begins, and when it's complete, the dofus hatches, rebirthing the Eliatrope and dragon.

Moving on, the game starts as everything's just fine, you play as Nora, the youngest of the council. You are told by Mina, the priestess of the Eliatrope council, that you have to prepare for something, bla bla bla, turns out Orgonax, a Mechasm, has found the Eliatropes again. You are soon told by Grougaloragran that Qilby has betrayed his people and killed the king. King Yugo. You see, Chibi, the prophet of the Eliatrope crowned Yugo king, something we learn made Qilby very mad. You are told that Qilby has betrayed his people, and long story short, what happened is basically this:
Qilby considered the Eliatrope lifestyle that they had now, that king Yugo has led to live, is wrong, and that there is no goddess Eliatrope, and that Eliatropes are meant to roam for planet to planet, collecting the wakfu they need to power their spaceship Mount Zinit.

They had used it once before to escape their old destroyed homeworld. We also learn that Qilby was performing secret experiments, involving Stasis, the anti-wakfu, essentially death itself. Stasis was forbidden from their new home planet, but Qilby brought it back. Why? We don't know. It's also highly likely that it was Qilby that brought Orgonax to their new homeworld, in an attempt to expose the lie that is the goddess Eliatrope. You give Yugo and Adamai's dofus to Grougaloragran near the end of the game, who takes it and goes to the world of 12, where he guards it until it hatches and the series starts.Over the course of the game, Glip gets killed, Chibi is already dead before the game starts, Mina sacrifices herself, Yugo is killed by Qilby, Qilby we never know where he goes, and Nora sacrifices herself to stop Orgonax from killing the goddess which turns out to be... a flower.

Now when Qilby emerges from the Eliacube in episode 6 of season 2, he tells Yugo a different story. When he first emerges, he is clearly terrified, screaming NOOO, and trying to escape, until he realizes that Yugo and Adamai have no memory of the past. This is most likely because they lost so much of their wakfu upon death, it took them 10,000 years to be reborn. After recovering a bit, he tells his story, in which he claims that he was king, and Yugo and Adamai were killed by Orgonax after sacrificing themselves, and that all the Eliatropes were killed, except the kids, who were teleported to "a dimension beyond space and time" by their parents, and that Yugo did the same with him. He doesn't mention his experiments, or anything. He then says that they can release the trapped Tropes by getting Qilbys dofus, so they can use that wakfu to reopen the portal and release the Tropes. And that's where we are now.

Nora and Efrim seem to have recently reincarnated and grown to maturity as she and Efrim are still referred to as "children" by everybody and seem to be in the dark as to what a lot of the council members are up to and they keep telling her they wish they could tell her more but she just has to trust them. The type of Eliacube Nora has looks different (you can see the kind of Eliacube from Wakfu within the game) and talks and has an AI which is suspicious that everybody is trying to deceive them but ultimately believes in its owner.Nora rescues 5 children who are probably kids from Les Gardiens that are teleported away by Baltazar to a place where they will supposedly be safe for eternity. It is mentioned that nobody remembers their birth even though these children are younger than everybody else.
You never meet Qilby or Yugo, but you find messages left behind by Qilby explaining some of what he wants to do and asking for forgiveness and understanding. If the messages are to be believed, he really did betray the king because he felt like the king did not want to reclaim all they had lost and would rather run away and stay in a false sanctuary. He felt that the king and that the council were propping up a false goddess to keep everybody placated. He claimed that this was not the original purpose of Eliatropes, that the true way of Wakfu was to travel through the crosmose consuming, that they were not intended to stagnate. He repeatedly claims that he is going to save them and make them see the truth and that only he can truly understand Chibi. Orgonax is referred to as "our enemy", but is implied to have a history with the council that goes beyond mere conflict and to even have once been their ally. It appears to have a personal grudge.

The Lu-Fus are a race whose homeworld was consumed and they are currently working for Orgonax, worshiping him. Although they are referred to as being "shackled", implying they are slaves, they actually appear to have quite a lot of autonomy and seem to feel the Eliatropes deserve what they are getting, although they are not without guilt. It is subtly implied that it may not have been Mechasms but actually Eliatropes who consumed their world's wakfu, possibly to fuel the Zinit spaceship, after which Orgonax found them and offered them a chance to take it all back. The "Goddess Eliatrope" is suspected to not exist by Qilby and the Eliacube, although Eliacube starts to think she is real after Nora survives an assault by Orgonax. While the statue seems to have been a fake by Mina, there is definitely SOMETHING Nora finds where Grougaloragran says the goddess is supposed to save them, although it looks more like a giant plant monster.
Nora defeats Orgonax alone. Chibi was already a soul island, Glip died fighting Lu-Fus, Nora plants Minas soul after she dies helping her reach the sanctuary and Chibi's soul, Yugo was killed by Qilby according to Grougaloragran and Mina, Qilby was missing the entire story and Eliacube comments that there is a rozen (stasis flower) growing where his soul island should be planted. Grougaloragran escapes with Yugo and Adamai's Dofus, Baltazar escapes with the children, Phaeris is never seen, Adamai was presumably killed by Qilby or Shinanome, Shinanome is never mentioned, yet Orgonax is still at large and unharmed.

It appears that if the council did anything, it was make Orgonax break a nail, literally. Efrim blows up the broken nail and their Platypus friend enters Orgonax' hand to sabotage his systems and make him lose his grip on the mountain. Nora then takes the "hand" of the "goddess" and uses her absorption powers to breath in all of its Wakfu, blasting Orgonax with a super version of the goddess song (basically an orbital cannon), the effects of which are not clear other than Orgonax recoiling and an explosion of wakfu streams that can be seen from orbit, the entire planet is bathed in blue energies, and the streams propagate far into space, like the "goddess hair" steams of wakfu which were supposedly a feature of the original Eliatrope homeworld. Maybe this destroyed Orgonax or sealed him or blasted him back into space or something, but it appears to have resuscitated the planet and removed most of the stasis corrupting it.

Still, what you have done is probably the best thing we'll have till Frenchy and Kenny (or someone else who is competent and knows French - if you are that person and you are reading this, then know that our subbers appreciate all the help they can get) find time to take care of all the errors.

HD episodes are around 750MB each.

The DRM basically allows you to play the file only using Windows Media Player. Once you've downloaded the video, the first time you try to play it on a computer, it asks you to activate your licence by entering your Ankama account login and password.

To remove the DRM I've found FairUse4WM. It just makes a DRM free copy of the video. There are also a lot of converters that allow you to get rid of the DRM by re-recording the vid', but just forget them. None can do the job without some quality loss.

Problem is that FairUse4WM only works with old versions of Windows Media player (9 or 10 preferably). That means you'll need a computer running under Windows XP, with a WMP version you haven't kept up to date.

Also, do note that FairUse4WM only works if you have a valid licence for your file, which means you actually have to buy the episode and activate it on your computer.

Well, one episode a week means between 3 and 4 GB worth of download a month. Depends on how much you usually download beside that.

>if it's worth it cost wise
Just my opinion, but it IS worth the money you spend in those, as long as you succeed in removing the DRM.
The quality is awesome; far, far, far better than anything else that's been available to this day. And I can already tell I won't buy any DVD for season 2 as long as I can keep on getting these HD episodes each week.
Also, buying these VOD versions grants you unlimited access to high quality streaming from your Ankama account, wherever you are and whichever computer you're on. Well, of course in that case you won't have the subs, but it's still an interesting feature IMO.

We do have a Wakfu wiki (well, to be precise, it's some Wakfu-related entries in the plus4chan wiki): http://wiki.plus4chan.org/index.php?title=Wakfu

I contributed the Episode 1 and Yugo pages. Someone else contributed the Sadlygrove page, but that was when the project went off the rails slightly. The entry was rather haphazard and arbitrary and the guy was absolutely adamant Grovy's "true name" was Pipoun, and none of us could convince him otherwise. Not that my stuff was much better, I hoisted it up unilaterally and somewhat incompetently.

There is a dedicated Wakfu wiki out there, but it's focused almost exclusively on the game: http://wakfu.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
>> No. 39348
>>39344
Short answer: no, because no one is willing to volunteer the time and (I guess) hosting expenses. Although someone has offered their webspace as long as someone else will buy a domain name for it.

In actuality: There is the plus4chan wiki, but I would advise against it:
- We'd have no admin control over it
- It has a lot of spam (which makes the above even worse)
- It's not entirely dedicated to Wakfu

@Encyclopedia Guy:
First, I like the format. A couple things to note however:

Regarding Goultard, your info about him marrying a witch and having two children is based on the Goultard special. However, this is not canon as it was adapted to be more acceptable on TV. The actual story has him founding a family with three witches, and I think he got one kid from each but don't quote me on that.

Regarding Dathura falling into the abyss: I remember reading recently that she threw herself into it because Ogrest wouldn't listen to her during his fight against the gods. Can't remember if I read it on 4chan or from an official source, though. Maybe someone can verify this.

The part about Nox has several typos, as opposed to the rest of the text. Excuse me for not noting them.

Lastly, about the beginning of Season 2, I would say "A year later [citation needed]".
>> No. 39349
>>39344

Regarding you: The second version of it, which I also uploaded, is one in which I make it a bit more like Fanfiction.

>>39348

Thanks for pointing out the typos. I wrote the Nox Section late at night, so naturally there would be some more typos.

As per Goultard, I've never seen anything which references those three witches, so I'm going to go with the version more people would have had exposure to for now. I'll add a citation needed type note to it, though.

And Dathura's information was taken from a post by Shock earlier in this thread

>She finally found him during the battle, and stood on a rock atop a tall cliff. She shouted as loud as she could, but Ogrest couldn't hear her thin voice in the heat of the battle.
When he finally heard her, it was too late : she had just been bumped and fell off the cliff. Ogrest rushed to grab her ... in vain.

Shock generally knows what he's talking about so I'm going to trust him on this. Anyway: Edit's time

>Shock generally knows what he's talking about
Thanks for the trust you have in me, but as I mentioned before, that was a re-post of some French speaking anon quoting the text he found in the newest Dofus Mag (probably the same guy that Frenchy mentioned in his last post). Mistranslations to english may have occured (we don't know how good of a translator he was), but untill someone else buys that and actually finds any mistakes it's the best source we've got.

>As per Goultard, I've never seen anything which references those three witches
It was in the Dofus Manga. The recent comic Goulatrd Bazar confirms this further, and to make things easier for us, that title is currently in the comic team's possession, so Glint could back this up with a scan. So in this case you probably should point out the diffrences in the animated short and the comic by presenting both versions. Or...

Catch this link:
http://www.otakia.com/16067/personnage/goultard-le-barbare-personnage/

It has all the info on Goultard you'll ever need. It's in French, but Google Translate can be helpful. It'll allow you to understand the context and I think that's all you need for your project.

Good luck with editing!

Yes, this was my primary source of information for everything Goultard until we got the mangas. So far everything in it has been accurate. Google Translate will probably mess some things up badly, though, so feel free to ask about specifics.

An anon gave us the links to Dofus Managa 1-7 via the poll, but I think the scans aren't quite usable as far as editing goes (it's enough to get the text and translate it, but the binding ruined several speech bubbles). Thanks for appreciating the scans for Bazzar, but I think I'm still going to have a few fuck ups on the Manga. The Manga isn't like Bazzar. Bazzar was a large, slightly flat book. As much as I needed to ruin the spine a bit to get good scans, it's going to be harder to get that result with the Manga because they're smaller in size and are much thicker.

The Mangas aren't in the same format as Bazzar and Shushu's of Rushu. Mangas are 11x18 and Bazzar was 16.5x24.5.

I'll do my best. Hopefully it won't be too hard. It's just going to take lots of time.

The long awaited 10th episode of Season 2 is almost upon us.

But two days is still two days, how in the world can we pass the time?

Why don't you try by (repeatedly) watching one of the biggest Wakfu parodies (in English) yet in a pop culture smorgasbord that's over 4 minutes long (with transitions):

Doc Moune shows that Cable Cars are the way to the future, literally.

Our friends down at Avenue Fu tackle the sensitive topic of race in the World of Twelve.

Bandit Riglesse and his Flying Circus confront a dastardly creature with the help of an unusually honest Qilby.

A magic suppression device attains its lifelong dream while Adamai the Marvel Drake's resentment reaches its apex.

Plus, the infamous Grovy/Remi war hits what some will consider to be either its climax or rock bottom.

Tenacious Stroud, MC HAMMhour,

All this, and more!

P.S. I'd like some advice on how to do the transitions in a pleasing fashion. Are you guys fine with the use of shoops and memes or should I stick with a simple black screen?

To make things clear: if I somewhat advertise for VOD episodes, it's so that people buy them to support Ankama. I'm posting screencaps to show that it's worth the money for the quality. I found that the new Spanish episodes available have a larger resolution and quality than the ones here.

It is easy to take off the sound of these and replace them for the ones here and also add the subs. The only problem is that they do not contain the credits scenes.

However, using all sorts of black magic and video editing, I found a way to add these scenes from the original to the Spanish video and only use reencoding in these last scenes. The result: FrankenFiles, made with pieces of different sources, a monster file can be born!

Nonetheless, there is a bug persisting: whenever the sub files are added, the file stops working in Media Player Classic (it works in other media players, though). Without subs, the file works fine. I don't know what could be the cause, but I will keep looking.
>> No. 39433
I think I have solved the problem. It appears to have been an issue with codecs on my part.

However, it seems there are still some issues with the frames per seconds in MCP, but they are minimal - i will look more into it.

Other media players, like BS.player, show no problems.

I think that the reason why people throw those ETAs without waiting for any official confirmation is because they strongly belive in you and your abilities. Unfortunately, problem is not our abilities, but the amount of free time we get to work on this project IRL.
And as everyone knows, life is a bitch! That's why our ETAs are so random.

I think it'b be better if the fans got used to a "sometime this week" as an ETA; and wait for us to make an update when things are getting ready.
We do understand fans' impatience, and I think that throwing a random day for the release can only lead to disappointment if for a reason or another we can't make it.

Try this, and if it doesn't work, try playing it back in a VMWare player instancemajigg and recording that from the host OS.

I posted this idea on 4chan in response to some people asking about the proofreading process and why it takes so long, blah blah blah:

Obviously Frenchy and Kenny are the most important people in the process since it both starts and ends with them. Correct me if I'm wrong, but can Frenchy have his rough translation usually by Sunday night (or even sooner)?

While this happens can Kenny be starting the timing process with the transcription's pace? I mean, the characters still are going to be saying their lines at 06:23:43, 06:24:18, etc regardless of transcription or translation. If edits to the timing do need to be made along the way KennyMC seems more than capable enough to handle it given the work he's done so far.

As soon as the rough translation is posted any proofreaders online can then make colored edits with annotations while chatting if needed to hopefully come close to a consensus by the end of the next working day. Now, this method might need a few more proofreaders just to make sure enough are online and available when the script is released and when live meetings occur. If it is deemed prudent one can make "senior" or supervisory proofreaders with one of them needing to be around to help make final decisions or nip debates in the bud before they become too time-consuming.

With this organization, hopefully the extended proofreading process itself, which was nearly a week for the longer Ogrest special I believe, can be expedited into one or two days depending on the length and qualities of the meetings. After the script is finalized then Kenny can set it along to the transcription timings with edits if needed and work on encoding and uploading. (Maybe raws can be uploaded initially, with the first upload being the .ass files, followed by the larger full Matroska container files, HD, etc.)

Now don't get me wrong, I very much appreciate the efforts already put into this project, but I think this method could actually streamline things and possibly make the work load easier with a pool of volunteers available and a few select people being necessary for the live meetings at their convenience. If at any point there seems to be problems with too much debate wasting time, the senior or supervisory roles can just veto or have a few proofreaders sit out to make things go more quickly and efficiently.

This is just a friendly suggestion, but I think the process can be fine-tuned a little bit to everyone's benefit. Forgive me if it is already in effect, but the major delay seems to be in waiting for all the proofreaders to not only show up and the extended debate periods could also be trimmed down this way.

I can also help volunteer with proofreading to give you a larger number of people, feel free to make me most junior of them, and the last one picked for proofreading Boufbowl team. (I have native English skills, pun-loving nature, and elementary French language and culture knowledge.)

Reposting the answer I made on 4chan:

>While this happens can Kenny be starting the timing process with the transcription's pace?
Yeah, that's what I'm doing already.
I start the timing as soon as I have finished encoding the SD raw, making the French transcript subs at the same time.

>Frenchy have his rough translation usually by Sunday night (or even sooner)?
Not always. For example, this time he couldn't work on the script before Monday night.

>the extended proofreading process itself...can be expedited into one or two days
That's also generally the case. Proofreading for this episode only started yesterday night.

You know, the main flaw of our team is not a matter of organization, but rather the lack of time to work on this project. We're not some semi-pro subbers you can find in animu. We're just a bunch of amateurs, doing this during the free time they can get when they're not dealing with work, studies, family, and so on.

We appreciate your will to help, and be sure we've already thought about ways to tune up how we're doing things. But the only thing we're really lacking is free time.

We're bringing this to you for free, and the only things we ask in return are time and patience. Well, of course we do understand fans impatience, being fans ourselves, but please deal with it.

Wakfu: Rob Paulsen's The Noxyoutube thumb

With The Masked Boufbowler getting top billing in the current Brakmar arc and Maskemane waiting in the wings, it's easy to forget Wakfu's premiere, not to mention best-dressed, faux-faced felon.

A Nox AMV (don't worry, it's short, we promise you) unlike any other that begs the never-asked, never-thought of (probably for good reason) question that isn't on any Wakfu fan's mind:

"What if Rob Paulsen (the voice actor, not the guy from Fight Club) voiced Nox in the English Dub?"

The result? A mad, mayhem-fueled minute of music and Masks that that promises to satisfy at least 20 times (with a two-hundred year warranty)!

I'm assuming the proofreading stage was rushed to appease a few whiny children? I love what you guys are doing for us. Just don't compromise quality to shut the retards in the audience up.

All throughout the episode you've got incorrect perspective. "There" instead of "here". "That city" instead of "this city". They're in Brakmar, they shouldn't be talking as if it's off in the distance.

>Resemblance sometimes skipS generations you know.
Yep, this one is a fuckup

>most perspective related things (this/that ; here/there)
French does not make such distinctions, and in english, they're base on context and perspective rather than strict grammatical rules. Therefore, while we're not doing it completely at random, it's still confusing sometimes, and require some mental effort for a brain thinking in french, and even then, we sometimes get it wrong. That's where the english proofreaders come in, but even they are not infaillible

>I already told you what I think about it
On a strictly academic english for a written text, you're right. But those are dialogues, made to reflect people actually speaking, including the common misuses of language they can make. This one was intentional.

>I'm expecting some big money income that could prove my innocence!
I don't see what's bothering you, could you go into detail?

Butting in here...

>>don't you miss the next trial:
>"Don't you [+verb]" is an actual english idiom

While that's true, the context isn't right. "Don't you (verb)" is usually used directly in the face of someone threatening to do something. "Don't you eat that cookie!" vs "Don't fall down!" In this case, if you're looking towards an upcoming event or the like, you'd just use "Don't miss it!" and not "Don't you miss it!"

>>I'm expecting some big money income that could prove my innocence!
>I don't see what's bothering you, could you go into detail?

"Some big money income" comes off as very redundant, because "income" is generally understood as money on its own. "I'm expecting some big money" would be fine. You could even use the more conversational "I'm expecting a big windfall" though given the situation (that "innocence" is determined by bribe) it might not be the clearest.

For what it's worth, I agree with pretty much all the changes suggested by Chojiki. I do believe that the this/that, here/there, etc. thing is a fairly important issue, as well as some of the verb tenses that were used.

I think "Don't you..." is fine, though. Just look up things like "don't you die on me" or "don't you forget about..."

Of course, I'm not a native speaker myself.

Sorry, but I agree with >>39550 that that's used more with a "threat" (I don't know if that's the best term to use, but I can't think of anything better). Like, "don't you die on me" because the person IS about to die, or "don't you forget about me" because it's likely the person WILL forget.

I was trying to work out how "celui" works in the sentence.

So I read through this

http://french.about.com/od/grammar/a/pronouns_demonstrative.htm

>II. In prepositional phrases, usually introduced by de to indicate possession or origin:
> Quel film veux-tu voir ? Celui de la France ou celui du Canada ?
> Which film do you want to see? The one from France or (the one from) Canada?

Apparently I went off on a tangent with something else. And forgot about deleting it. So "le seul, le vrai" describes Boufball, "celui de Brâkmar." -from Brakmar."

It was only meant to be in >>39547. Which it is. Sorry.

Well, I obviously can't speak for you, but I feel that localization is important because if you're left with literal or awkward translations and phrasings, it takes you out of the moment and makes the characters feel bland. It's like playing a Japanese-translated RPG from the late eighties/early nineties or something. Look at Final Fantasy VI. The original game gives us this:

Baigan: Oh, Cecil! Is that the Crystal of Water?
Cecil: But Mysidians were so helpless.

Yeah, you get the general idea of what's happening there, but hardly feels natural and gives no personality to the speakers. The second sentence's structure makes no sense following that of the first, making it sound further clunky and awkward. The updated game has the scene go like this:

Baigan: Ah, the young lord returns triumphant! You did secure Mysidia's Crystal, did you not?
Cecil: The Crystal is ours. But the Mysidians - they did not even raise a hand in their own defense, Baigan.

There, not only does the structure make sense all around, but you get a better understanding of what they're talking about and get a better sense of the overall tone of the scene.

Sometimes a tweak of the phrasing only makes a subtle difference, but it's a difference all the same, and within a story, it adds up and affects your overall interpretation of it.

I think it is the same girl that was having a meal with other girl with glasses in Alibert's inn. The one that had their table under the trophies that the possesed Grovy admired for a moment and who later became a victim of the attack of the Polters.

To my knowledge, her last appearance in the first season occurred when the group returned to Emelka and the Polters unmade all of their transformations.

Regardless of that, we can see the "bearded girl" at one other time before the match - when she and her companion (the guy with the orange hair and the striped shirt) are coming back from the city to the tollbooth (or some other place, I don't know) while Yugo and his friends are entering it.

I've finished the timings and the French transcript subs file.
As I thought, we beat yet another dialogue heaviness record, even if it's just by a few lines. The most annoying thing in this episode is the way Tendynite and Jactance speak. They just invent about one third of the words they use!

If you want an idea of how much this episode is a transcription/translation hell, just have a look at the Taure's name in the picture.

Well, "bouc" ("billy goat") obviously refers to the Taure, but I'm not even sure what it stands for. This is yet another thing we'll have to discuss during proofreading with Frenchy.

As for slang, well, I guess it must be sometimes tricky for you indeed: first you have to deal with "Franco-French" slang you may not necessarily know; plus "Made In Ankama" slang/humor, which even Frenchy and I sometimes have problem with.
Anyway, don't forget that if you are stuck on something, you can always drop a little post here. Frenchy or I may be able to help.

Dunno how much wordy it is, but here's a little comparision using the subtitle lines count.

No, bad idea.
-It would clutter up the screen.
-It would be difficult to display them properly, all the more when the writings are moving.
-It's too much of a hassle considering they don't add anything really interesting.
-That's not the way Ankama wanted us to enjoy the show. If they wished we understood what's written, they'd just have written the texts in some regular language.

So, if you want to know what's written in Brakmarian language, do as Frenchy did and have fun trying to decipher it yourself. But the translation is not meant to be displayed onscreen.

Crap action, no story, annoying dialogue, little to no attention paid to the actual heroes of the series, and a climax so dumb and idiotic that I felt dumber just for having watched it. The arc was all about Kriss, and even that stuff failed to impress. It was the most blatant bit of product placement since the Dragon Cochon episode.

And now three month hiatus

Funny that you should mention Episode 5, because that Mmmmmmmmmmmmporpg guy? He's actually a Minotaurus of some sort. Coincidence? Who can say, maybe I guess?

But yeah, I felt that this arc was one of the show's lesser offerings. It's a different breed than Episode 5 because while that had animation and budget constraints against it, this one had great animation a boosted budget, but failed in that it promised a lot but didn't deliver and didn't quite live up to the first one. There's a sentiment going around that people should feel free to skip it, and I'm on board with that. (The Ruel 63 stuff was hilarious though and spawned some tantalizing fanart)

Not harsh, just plain wrong.
The arc suffered mostly from pacing (too much commenting, not enough action) and from the comparison to the previous boufbowl arc, which is mostly a case of setting our expectations too high.
Keep in mind the first arc had a strong novelty impact, especially after the pace of the first 9 episodes. I think it's still better than the season 2 one, even without that novelty effect, but honestly the season 2 arc isn't that far behind, and is definitely better than some of thel filler episodes from both seasons.

At least the Season 1 filler fleshed out the characters, here it's highly unnecessary padding. Even the Grovy Resurrection arc and the Ambushed episodes didn't do much for Eva, Grovy or Ruel. I took a bigger issue with Kriss taking a metric ton of spotlight away from the Brotherhood. When we saw Ruel 63 Evangelyne and Amalia I thought they'd do some awesome things, instead they were pretty much set up for two punchlines. Coinciding with the release of the Boufbowl comic and game, not to mention the upcoming Kriss action figure, may have some fans seeing this as some blatant ad for those products, much like in the Dragon Pig ep. The first half of Season 1 may not have been great, but it's advertising wasn't nearly so heavyhanded and obvious.
>> No. 39680

The product placement argument doesn't really stand, since the episodes have been done a long time ago and are just aired now due to France 3's schedules. I wouldn't be surprised if there was at least 5 or 6 months between the time an episode is shipped to France 3, and the time it is aired.

I can totally agree that they set the boufbowl game and comics to be released around the time the episodes were aired, but not the other way around. The episodes themeselves weren't done with the prospect of that merchandise release in mind, therefore you can't blame them for being advertising or product placement.

Is it just me or is season 2 as a whole really all over the place?

Season 1 had a clear direction from the start, and a justification for its filler (Grufon / character interaction). The connection between two main plot threads (Yugo finding his family and Nox hunting for wakfu) was introduced very early, and that connection was built on more and more as the season progressed (culminating around episode 17 when we learn that Nox's plan doesn't just affect Yugo). We KNEW what the main conflict was and more or less how it needed to be resolved.

Season 2 branches off a dozen different ways, and just when it seems like they're going to follow a certain plot thread they skip to another:

-Eva's crazy? Nah, she was right about Tristepin.
-Remington looks like villain material? No, he's just here to harass Eva.
-Pinpin possessed by Rubilax? Nope, Rubi's a pussy and we got our Iop back.
-Ombrage is heavily foreshadowed to a prominent villain? Psh.
- FART JOKES.
-Quilby's a dirty liar, let's go find a Dofus!
-Remington's back? Eh, let's lock him in a dungeon dimension and forget about him.
-Anathar's the big bad? Rushu's the big bad? That's okay, as long as we aren't in the Shushu world we don't have to worry about them.
-LET'S GO VISIT KRISS LE KRASS.

Inevitably these things are going to connect somehow, but as of yet their adventure has no sense of direction at all, and the series finale is probably going to end up being a rushed mish-mash of everything we've gotten a brief glimpse of.

It's not just you man, Season 2's has had some odd pacing issues that have taken away from the experience. The lack of strong direction results in a a lot of things at us of supposed import being thrown at us, though none their respective promises have amounted to much as of yet, and some have fizzled out completely (ex. Rubilaxia, shown prominently in the trailers and the intro is removed completely from the plot by the 4th episode). I also find some of their decisions regarding the plot, to have been rather poorly made and/or structured, as you do. Though some may attribute these sentiments to the fanbase's high expectations, I do not believe that meeting them would've been beyond Ankama's capabilities, and thus a bit more coherence in the narrative should've been a certainty(ex. as you said, the main plot in Season 1 begins in ep2 whereas it doesn't get going there in Season 2 until ep6).

I know this must seem like a bit of a letdown as we're halfway through what may very well be the show's last season (a 3rd is still a possibility), but take heart, they'll be working on it all the way till September, and who knows, despite how straightforwardly Ankama has been using cliches as of late with only slight accents of their signature twists (characters being brought back with little consequence, villains as shallow morons, the power of love, etc.).perhaps all the tantalizing hints made in 'Islands of Wakfu' and the series itself, will bear fruit in a fantastic and unique manner that will thrill and entertain.

And if nothing else, we got the adorable (though nowhere near as destructive as we had anticipated) Ogrest Special and hilarious Maxi-Mini short out of the deal.

So again, take heart, friend, take heart.

pic tangentially related due to the subject of pacing issues, that and I really wanted to post it.

>Season 1 had a clear direction from the start,
Not really. For example, according to Artbooks they didn't know where Yugo came from before they started making episode 1 (so only after completing 3-4 episodes already, as a practice). They had the idea that it should be Grougal that gave him to Alibert at the very last moment. So at least most of the filler episodes weren't planned to connect with anything, they weremade to be able to fit any point in the story.

Season 1 main story was episodes 1-2, plus 15-26. Everything else was either just filler or could have been put into one episode (acquiring the map, buying the boat in episodes 10-12 and the interesting Nox part of episode 13 could have been melted together easily). So let's say 15 episodes of plot alltogether, with all the rest being filler (mostly good though).

In season 2, we have as the main plot: the first episode that presents us with a status quo (we cannot ommit that one), 3 eps for Grovy's return (yes, it counts, because we are talking about a major character coming back here and major development for Eva - she didn't go crazy, but she got some depth from that endavour) and the appearance of Qilby. That's 5 for 12.

Tot said that a major villain will reveal himself around episode 15, so from that point the series is probably gonna be plot heavy again. We still don't know about episodes 13 and 14, but even if they are pure filler, what we're gonna get is a minimum of 14 (that is, if you REALLY want to ommit Tristepins return) plot important episodes.

So not that diffrent at all. I agree that the pacing is sometimes a bit weird, but it doesn't buther me much.

As for now, both seasons are comparable for me, if judged by first 12 episodes. As always, the second half will decide about everything, so the next 14 episodes better be good or I'm joining the "Let's bomb Roubiax" crowd.

So cross your fingers guys and enjoy (yeah, right) the Wakfu-less summer.

Yes, because everyone on /co/ loved Wakfu before episodes 15+ started airing.

As for now, both seasons have EXACTLY the same structure (even the Boufbowl episodes numbers match), minus the villain reveal. This time it's supposed to be a surprise for the audience, and by audience I mean kids in France, not nerds on the Internet who already know everything about the plot of Islands of Wakfu.

>This is the Wakfu equivalent of Heroes season 2.
So how was Wakfu's season 2 finale? I assume that you have already seen it, since you are making statements such as that one above.

You act like Wakfu became a villain fo the week story, with no continuity whatsoever, while in reality every episode starts exactly where the last one has ended. The fact that for now it's just "some random stuff happenning on their way to get the Dofus" (that's called adventuring, you know) is not making those episodes any less enjoyable for me.

Did you really expect the entire season 2 to be like the last few episodes of season 1, all dark and serious? Half of Wakfu's charm is the lightheartedness. Now is time for having fun with the world and characters that live in it. The time for kicking us in the balls will come later.

But hey, opinions.

Wakfu: All My Kamasyoutube thumb

Well I've noticed that apart from Episode 7 of Season 2, Ruel hasn't had much to do in the new paradigm. So I thought I'd make a little AMV to remind us of all the good times we've had with the character. But seeing as how I've all ready made a video showing how awesome he is, I decided to have this one show how hilariously goofy he could be.

Enjoy:

Tenacious Stroud and The Aquabats team up for a (soon to be) legendary collaboration of colossal proportions with "All My Kamas": A meditative ballad that warns of the evils of excessive spending (that isn't on any Ankama products and shipping costs), and is ripe for and welcoming product placement of all kinds!!!

The critics are unanimous:

"What the hell is a Tenacious Stroud?"

"Subs where?"

Yup. Here's a small piece of proof. One fan asked about season 2 on the broadcaster's website, the reply from the admin was "fall 2011", which usually means September. Knowing how things work here, we should get the first 12-13 episodes then and the rest should start airing in winter 2012.

I`ve said this before,I`ll say it again. The english track exists for ALL the episodes. It`s what the lips of the characters synced up to.It`s standard procedure in french productions and Ankama confirmed it in one of their issue of Dofus mag.
I also know this because I`ve actually worked on a few french productions(and NO,there is no such thing as a dummy track. This idea was invented by people who never worked in animation and can`t accept that the english track sucks)
The only time something similar to a dummy track is used,is in feature films(mostly Disney`s and Pixar`s).They`ll use anybodies` voice to experiment on the characters` animation before they do the actual track to get the feel for the characters. But none of that animation ever makes it to the final film, the lip sync would be wrong(just for starters).
>> No. 39759
>>39757
You are wrong on so many levels.
You are mixing the english SCRIPT with an actual existing TRACK. It's not because the script may exist that it has indeed been recorded in a studio, which actually costs money (for nothing since they don't put it into exploitation). Only the first two episodes have been dubbed so far, not because those are the only two we could get our hands on, but because they don't need more than that to present the show, and anything more would be wasting money.

Also you are also wrong about the lip synch. Ankama stated that they indeed started with the common usage of synching the lips movments to the english script.
But they also stated that they changed that mid-season 1 (as they gained more weight in the decisions compared to France 3) in order to synch with the french script. The reason was mostly for convenience as it gave them less constraints for writing the french dialogues and made it easier on the french dubbing studio they worked with, as they became more involed in the project.

The only recorded dubs so far are ep. 1 and 2. There are english scripts for the eearly episodes of season 1, and MAYBE for the others episodes (why would they bother since TV channels that buys the rights and make their own dubs usually reserve the right to modify the dialogues anyway)

I actually WORKED ON FRENCH PRODUCTIONS....have you?
Have ever worked in animation professionally?(from you response, I`d doubt it)
If no,then how can you be so sure I`m wrong.
Outside of japan,NOBODY lip sync without a VOICE track.
Lip syncing to a script?????That doesn`t even make sense!!!!
lip sync is like motion capture for the lips and what you`re saying is like, let`s have motion capture...but without the performers, let`s just hang the motion capture there and read the script to it,it`ll do the rest.
Doesn`t sound very bright,does it?
Here`s another thing that is not very bright, arguing the animation process with someone who has been part of that process for years while you only know what has been said on the internet which tends to be inacurate and incomplete.
As for your middle paragraph, care to show us where you got that info?No...wait,you can`t cause it`s pure fantasy, yours.
STOP taking your fantasies for facts.
The only reason the english versions, outside of the first two, haven`t been shown is because no english networks have aired them yet.The first two where used for promotional reasons, the rest is patiently waiting to be aired.
And as for the budget issue for two tracks, this normal for a french production.
I repeat:THIS IS NORMAL FOR A FRENCH PRODUCTION!!!!!

>Care to show us your resume proving you worked in the animation?
>Care to show us the source that confirms the episodes have been indeed dubbed in english?
see I can play that game too

second, you base your arguments on the general practices in the medium.
Did you work specifically in Ankama's animation department ? no you didn't, and you might just have troubles with reading comprehension.
Especially the part where I just mentioned that Ankama DID follow the rules of the profession at first, because that's what the profession (aka people in charge of the decisions at France 3) told them to do. That's only when the success of the series gave Ankama more weight that they could take more liberties in the storytelling, the format, the standards, what was possible to show on screen and so on ... you know "just against the tide of what the standards in french animation were".

So, basing your argument on "that's what the custom dictates" doesn't work with a group of people that stray away from the customs.

Clear enough for ya??
>> No. 39762

But...we've seen how Ankama records voices. They've got a ton of behind-the-scenes features that show the process at work. I have it on DVD. They animate the flapping mouths first and then the dubbing team voiceovers it. The normal method in Western cartoons is to voice the characters then animate to the voice track, but since Ankama's voice-acting expertise is in anime dubbing, they play to their strengths and dub the characters post-animation.

I mean, we've seen it. On video. It'd take me an age to dig out an example since my connection speed is tanking, but Ankama's practices are clearly not the same as that of other French animation studios, if your experience is anything to go by.

Complement to my previous post

First, there's a flaw in your reasoning : no matter what language the lipsynch is based on, it's not based on actual actor's work. It's based on very basic recordings done by the scriptwriters or the animators, just to have a reference. The actual dub by actors only comes at the end of the production phase, when lip movements are already set.
So yeah maybe there are a few audio recordings in english on some episodes where 2-3 dudes make all the voices of all the characters on a monotonous tone, but you can't use the language of the lip-synch to say that REAL ACTUAL DUBS exist.

Second, I haven't recovered yet the exact source where I read someone from the team saying explicitly that they switched from english to french lipsynch, however I have found other equivalent proofs :

From the Voice Acting director on the french forums :
http://forum.wakfu.com/fr/20-discussions-generales/32150-voix-francaises-wakfu?poid=684502
>"Let me remind you that we're not exactly making a dub, but a voice creation, that is to say when we're recording, there's no original version to listen to, nor music or sound effects. We're creating the original / the voice basis that will be used as a model for the dubbing made in other countries."

Also, the animatiques are the "draft" video sequences on which the "test" voices I mentioned earlier are recorded. That's what the animators use as a base tool to make their lipsynch. and guess what? they are recorded in french.
Example here on episode 22 :
Tristepin_sequence07_fafah06.aviyoutube thumb
Tirstepin_Eva_danse_animatiqueyoutube thumb
Tristepin_sequence10_fafah.aviyoutube thumb
(the last one even has a comment about eva saying something silently that the audience is supposed to be able to read on her lips)

Finally, the DVD bonuses from the first box set (ep. 1-13) has a "making of" documentary in which they explain the process I just described about animatique and lip-synch, and you can see french animatiques as early as the boufbowl arc.

Could you at least have the guts to answer my questions?

Unlike you,I`ll address your points head on
>Care to show us the source that confirms the episodes have been indeed dubbed in english?

Dofus Mag #3 page119
"Polyglotte,isn't it?

I`d translate this but somebody would probably complain that I might lie in the translation,so I`ll leave it to a more neutral party.

>Care to show us your resume proving you worked in the animation?
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2671812/

>Especially the part where I just mentioned that Ankama DID follow >the rules of the profession at first, because that's what the >profession (aka people in charge of the decisions at France 3) told >them to do. Why would France 3 care if the lip sync was in english, they'll only air it french. It's for the US market that Ankama(and other french studios) is doing this. For them to stop half way would be like saying that they are giving up on that market.
I've been following both the show and it's production from the beginning precisely because they are doing things differently from other studios, and I have applauded the changes they have brought about. They have also been very open and detailed about their methods and techniques. And I have paid very close attention.

I've answered your questions and your following nonsense, whille you chicken out of answering my questions....so I'll give a second chance

1)Did you ever work professionally in animation?
1a)if yes, show us YOUR credentials(you brought that one on your self)
1b)if no,why should anyone believe you more than a pro?
2)What is specifically the source of this info below?
> they also stated that they changed that mid-season 1
(you don't answer that one, you'll never shut me up)

3)and finally, can you explain exactly how you synchronize lips to a script without a voice track?(that's just to see if you're completely logic impaired)
this time, don't weasel out of answering them,I answered yours.

As for Rasputin_Zero,you've been more precise with your response and much more polite,I'll do the same.
I can understand why you believe what you believe.I know the videos you are refering to.
I think it is important to point out that those videos are aimed at a french audience who will care a great deal more the french voice actors then the english voice actors(mostly because they'll never hear them anyway).
On the fifth dvd of season 1,however,in the bonus video"La voix des coulisses..."in about the 7th or 8th minute of the video Dorothée Pousséo,the voice of Adamaï makes a quick reference to the english track and it`s lip sync:"Dans un déssin animé,et encore plus sur une création comme Wakfu,même si y a de l`anglais,on peut en faire ce quòn veut parce que les lèvres sont pas pareil on n`est pas oubligé d`être hyper precis comme sur du "live"".
The video in question seems to have been done after season 1 was finished. One clue indicating that is Geneviève Doang (Evangelyne) trying to imitate Ruel, the phrase she used is the very last phrase Ruel says at the end of episode 26:"C`était une belle histoire"

European fans, if you could satisfy my curiosity, I've been wondering lately about Dofus/Wakfu's popularity in France and other countries it's been officially released in. As I'm sure you know, it's practically unheard of here in the US except for us animation nerds, but as I understand it's significantly more popular over there. But I'm a bit curious as to just how popular it is. Is it a household name? If not, would there be a comparable franchise that it could be compared to? I'm guessing somewhere along the lines of Warcraft, or maybe a Cartoon Network show like Ben 10.

Are you fucking dense or did you miss-read TWICE the fact that I never denied, and in fact, actually SAID they DID english lip-synchs in the fucking BEGINNING of the series (2008) and changed that later ?

>Why would France 3 care if the lip sync was in english, they'll only air it french
Two reasons :
1) they were the ones to make decisions in the early stages, and as such, they did things "by the book" , just how you described. You're the one who says "series are always done in a specific manner in France" so why would France 3 bother to do anything else than the well tried method?
2) They didn't just buy the series to Ankama, they also co-funded it. They have financial interests in it, they're no just running on an end-user license.

>1b)if no,why should anyone believe you more than a pro?
> they also stated that they changed that mid-season 1
>(you don't answer that one, you'll never shut me up)
I'm not saying it, the links and source (DVD documentary) I mentioned are, on the other hand, answering for me.

>3)and finally, can you explain exactly how you synchronize lips to a script without a voice track?
You should really check your reading comprehension, since I've not said that. I said that said track was done in french, at least as early as episode 12.
>I think it is important to point out that those videos are aimed at a french audience who will care a great deal more the french voice actors then the english voice actors.
Yeah, like they would bother re-test-dubbing some animatiques uploaded casually on youtube by Fafah just for the few kiddies that don't understand french, and probably don't give a fuck to what an animatique is .... how dedicated they are ....

>the voice of Adamaï makes a quick reference to the english track and it`s lip sync
... which absolutely couldn't refer to the eraly episodes done in english ... once the first half of the series is out on DVD, you are absolutely forbidden to speak about it, right ?

Finally, all this argueing is all fine and dandy, but the main point we were debating initially was if this proved in any way that an actual english dub (with actual acting) existed in Ankama's seekret bunker. I think Thomas Guitard's statement pretty much closes the debate : it doesn't

The last official figures are from late 2010
There are about 500.000 paying accounts worldwide.
Since the beginnings of the game in 2003, about 23M accounts have been created worldwide.
Keep in mind, though, that it's quite hard to tell the number of actual players, between the huge number of players who stay on the free-trial zone, the bots, and the widespread use of multiple accounts.

I'd say somewhere between 1 and 2 M (subscibers + free) players worldwide would be a reasonable estimation.
Not as successful as WoW, but still in the "successful followers" lot, and not bad for a 8 year-old flash game designed in a garage, especially compared to all the self proclaimed "WoW-killers" that tanked within 6 months after released and had a hard time getting 200-300 k players.

I love seeing interesting discussions, and this has all the potential to be one, but the tone you two set is killing every bit of enjoyment that comes from reading it. Could you back out just a bit and stop being so agressive against each other? I'd be very grateful if you did and I think that you'd communicate with each other much more efficiently that way.

Thanks in advance.

Also, dunno if it's too late or not to make modifications on the eyeball, but I think it would add a great effect if the iris wasn't just centered, but slightly eying on one side (preferably on the side of the wielder). There is no intent to steal art. Why the hell would I or any of the other contest heads do that, and what is there to gain from work that is going to be labeled that it was made by a different person?

All works submitted are owned by the person who made it. No one else. Every artist can be rest assured that their art is theirs and no one else. If you really want a large set of rules, that can be arranged, but if anyone is willing to believe me without one, you do not need to worry.

Here's a quickstart guide, based on some research I did today, if you want to rip an FLV file from a website, convert it to a usable file for subbing (MP4) and encode a quality MKV file with your

subs for release. I uploaded a 3MB sample to Mediafire. (works with VLC and MPC-HC)
http://www.mediafire.com/?qd7xci991iokg4s (there is extra audio without video at the end, don't worry about that)

I use http://www.ankama.com/fr/video-maximini/10519-maximini-marwal-crustaces for the quickstart guide.

### MAKING VIDEO FILE FOR CREATINGS SUBTITLES WITH AEGISUB ###
1. Use a FLV downloader to retrieve the video file from Ankama. For example http://www.thestuffcenter.com/flvmoviesdownloader which is a Firefox Addon.

2. Get MediaCoder http://www.mediacoderhq.com/editions.html to convert the video to a manageable file. It's free but has some ads.
- Choose MediaCoder 2011 (full package)
- Install x64 if you have a 64-bit system, speeds up a lot!
- Make sure to check/uncheck components that you don't want, I removed MediaCoder Dropbox because I won't use it.
- Do not install Super Collapse! 3 unless you want it, it's not part of MediaCoder. Adware
- Install, start MediaCoder, close the first window (ads) and get started.

3. Follow the steps below to get a high quality dump of the video file.
- Drag and drop the .flv file into MediaCoder
- Right click the video > Set output file > Save As "Maximini.mp4"
- Select the video in the list and change the following settings (tabs down at the Preview)
- VIDEO:
--- Auto Bitrate On: Output Size On
--- Output Size: 100MB
--- Format: H.264
--- To the right is a x264 tab if you're in VIDEO.
---- PRESET: Slower is higher quality, set to your preference.
- AUDIO:
--- Format: LC-AAC
- CONTAINER:
--- MP4

4. Press Start at the top right of the window to start conversion.
- You can press stop -> Finish current job to just convert a piece of the video.

5. Mount video and audio in Aegisub and start subbing!

### MAKING A QUALITY RELEASE ###
When you're done you can use MediaCoder to make a quality release with your subs. Below is an example how to make a MKV-file with softsubs.

1. Use same settings as above, maybe change Output size to something closer to the source, 60 MB is a good number for the Maximini example.
2. Change CONTAINER to MKV.
3. Find SUBTITLE tab.
- RENDERER = VobSub (Softsub) or Default (Hardsub)
- LANGUAGE = en (if you're making an English sub)
- SUBTITLE = Select your .ass file

If you encode your video you should get a file around ~55MB with almost identical quality of the source with your subs.

###

I hope this has been helpful for beginners and veterans alike, keep up the great work /co/!

Thanks, I already know that, but, here's the thing w/ Maximini: It's 4 parts.

Part One is 8 Pictures that have an Introduction to the Story on them.
Part Two is a Flash Movie that details how Maskemane and Remington get to the Castle.
Part Three is the little video from >>39800.
and Part Four was aired at the Convention in April whereupon Ankama was supposed to add it to the Maximini website or at least to their website. This hasn't happened yet.

It's Part Two that's holding up the entire project.

It'd be nice if I'd be able to download all the files, open them w/ Flash Professional, put in the English text, and make it into a .swf file for all you guys to use, but Ankama has made it w/ some kind of security error where I've got all the files, but they don't run past a certain file and I get "Une erreur de sécurité est intervenue : file:///C:/maximini/assets/chapters/chapiters-titles.swf (swf)". It doesn't help that I know next to nothing about whats causing this. So I'm dicking around in Flash trying to find away around this and I'm this close to ripping the entire flash and recompiling it from scratch, which would take some time.

Anyone have any advice? I'd be glad to hear it.

the "attitude" part was because... well, yeah, as a leecher I can say that we get nervous when the subbers don't even drop a word for weeks. It's perfectly normal reaction. Just saying "sorry, guys, there are no subs yet, you will have to wait a few more weeks until real life stops obstructing us" will be enough, and we will just drop a few weeks later to say a word of consolation and ask "um, any progress on the episode?". Ofc, if the guy who wrote the post in question has read this thread like he should have, he wouldn't be writing something so stupid, but still... indicating that you are not dead on the twitter would be helpful.

Ah, I wrote this only because I love defending the opposite opinion, by all means take your time. And while I still have 8 shows to finish from the spring season (although Ryuumaru and pwq are slowpoking like you >.>), I do miss Wakfu and rewatch some of the eps from time to time... so, yeah, don't take this post as a selfish request for you to work faster, but as a wish for good luck, so that... you work faster... uhhh... you get the difference, I hope? lol...

Did you guys miss the fact that the main translator is missing in action, and that without him, the rest of the team is dead in the water?
They're not giving news because there's no "news" from what has already been said.

I sent this to Brotherhood of Tofu a few weeks ago, but sadly it got buried under a slew of (admittedly much more interesting) pic updates. XD

1) What's the French spelling(s) of Sadlygrove's nickname? I've seen it written as both "Pinpin" and "Pipoun" on various forums and fansites. Sometimes they're used interchangably, but other times it's noted that they're two different names used by different people to refer to Sadlygrove.

2) Does Remington Smisse have an accent? The cadence of his speech seems very different from the other characters', especially when he's upset, nervous, or otherwise speaking rapidly. I don't understand French at all, so I can't tell if this is an accent or a choice made by the voice actor (or if it's simply part of French speech patterns that haven't come up for other characters). Either way, his cadence is unusual enough that I'm curious.

Thanks and much love to the subbers and everyone who helps us non-French speakers enjoy Wakfu!!

pinpin is the nickname his friends have given him and is the most commonly used one in the show. pipoun is the nickname his master gave him at a young age. both are used by fans as terms of affection/mockery interchangeably. pipoun is used more as a cutesy, childish nickname.

Hell. Even I'm starting to get worried. All I'd like is for Frenchy to say something. Anything. One update. I can wait, but three weeks without anything is really odd.

Hopefully the comics tide people over for a while. Bazzar should come out next week.

>>39907

His real name literally works out to "Sad Pine" in English, and Pinpin is the nickname created from that. Pipoun is the mocking name that Goultard calls him.

I'm not actually familiar with the existing dub episodes (why would I want to torture myself that way?) but I'll take a look at it when I'm not on shitty hotel internet and see if it's the same or not. From today's experience, I personally felt that Yugo and Sadlygrove ("Saddy" here) were the closest in sound to the original, though their lines were pretty limited. Yugo really was spot-on, though. Eva and Amalia were pretty average, with Eva being slightly better than Amalia. Ruel needs to shut the fuck up right now. McDeek (yeah, they kept that one) was kind of annoying, but for a one-off villain who cares? Xav sounded a bit like a hick, and he had plenty of bread puns even in his small role.
>> No. 39926
...Saddy? Really? Jesus Christ, that's worst than Dally.

I kinda thought the point was that "Pinpin" sounded undignified at first (especially compared to his full name/title thing) but then became more affectionate, you know?

"Saddy" just sounds awkward.

Honestly I think that due to how well he performed in the French dub, a part of us will settle for nothing less than Benjamin Pascal learning to speak fluent English so as to facilitate his services in the dub. I'd help fund it.

That said, I can understand why people are disappointed, and even dislike these episodes. They clearly weren't what I was expecting from a boufbowl arc, which makes me share your disappoiment to some extent.
Still, I think these were among the funniest episodes since the beginning of the season. The situations, dialogues and references cracked me up more than once. And in the end, I pretty enjoyed them, even if I'm no more a 7 years old boy since a very long time now.

Well, it's a matter of personal taste, as usual.

Anyway, we're working to bring these episodes to those who want to see them. We're doing our best to convey the puns in the dialogues and to find equivalent references in English, which takes a damn long time.
So, thanks again for your patience.

Stuff like this, and the fact that her accuracy sometimes flip-flops has me questioning Eva's eyesight. You can blame some of her misses in battle on the stress, bedlam or a whole bevvy of other factors involved in fights. But during lulls in the action like in Episode 4 when they're trying to make themselves hideous (this could very well relate to how she doesn't consider herself very pretty at first, though), such visual misconceptions on her part are very perplexing.

Case in point, how does this (pic) look anything like a Gobball? Yes, it's an insult that can pertain to a person's personality, but hers was a slighting of Amalia's appearance. It's a weird dress, but it doesn't look a thing like a big-toothed, big-eyed sheep creature.

I found this totally believable and also hilarious. I'm a girl and I despise how I look in dresses and heels (and can't walk in them any better than Eva can). I know I'm not unattractive in most circumstances, but specifically when wearing dresses and "girly" clothes, I think I look like a hideous poser and freak, and none of my friends or family has ever been able to convince me otherwise.

Still, I agree with you that Evangeline does have some weird accuracy issues. Probably Rules of Drama/Funny/Cool more than anything.

Jus a little digression. That scene in the picture? It's one of my favourite character moments in entire season 1. Eva, the female companion/bodyguard of the princess, up to this point focused only on her duties as such and always incredibly down-to-earth, for the first time in her life realises that she is, in fact, a very pretty girl.

This scene is short, simple and brilliant. That brief moment of hesitation just before she finally smiles was enough to turn Eva into a three dimensional character and make her much more interesting for the viewer. Yes, she could elaborate how she never felt pretty before and/or never had time (or confidence) to even think about being attractive, but in this case an image is trully worth more than a thousand words. Visual storytelling at it's best.
