I could give it a shot. I mean, I kick-started all this character-entry malarkey anyway with Yugo (although thanks to Aurel for prompting me), so I can hardly just up and leave. You know, I spend a bit of time adding to the Wiki, and the response I get is an all-out assault from people who ignore 60 articles that still need to be written, focusing solely on mine.

You're welcome, guys :P

But at least I kick-started writing somehow. Good.

Ok, to not turn it into flame, I'll address just two things from the past thread:

>Kennymc

Thanks for listing his names, but if you checked the article, I already added both of them much earlier. Still, your influence was strong, as I made the same mistake as you (spelling it Percidal) in the beginning and I had to fix it.

You're asking me if I'd protest if he called me that? Yes, I'd but I guess I'm just insane that way :)

I'm not saying his name isn't Percedal, but it's pretty suspect, considering all non-royalty characters seem to have only one name (even dragons), not two, and the fact that the only character who knew him before is not calling him that. The fact 'nickname' was revealed late? So? Indiana Jones was also called 'Henry' by a mentor figure at the end of the trilogy, and it was, in fact, his true name :P

If I were to make argument against 'Pipoun', only one comes to mind - the fact it'll be probably translated and we don't know to what yet.

I think that a separate, totally crazy article for those jokes and memes wouldn't be so "controversial" as puting them in the main articles. Those should stay mainly informational, but in my opinion just a tad bit of humour wouldn't spoil them at all (check out the TFwiki, they've done it perfectly: http://tfwiki.net/ ).

They seem to only have one name because nobody bothers saying any more. They're informal, hence Yugo giving a nickname less than two minutes after meeting a guy.

Or are you going to suggest that Ruel is royalty?

Yup, I know. But what bugs me is that you consider that "Pipoun" is his real first name.
If you ask any French who has seen the series, it'll never cross his mind that "Pipoun" could actually be Sadlygrove's real name. It's very obvious it's nothing more than just a sacarstic loving nickname, given by a freaking powerful master to his silly yet lovable "padawan" (Goultard speaks with Obi wan's voice, remember?).

Well, no offense, but you might have thought this a little too far IMO. ;)
>> No. 34537
>>34522

KKK, I'm sorry you took my criticisms as an 'assault', I honestly didn't mean to come across that way.

But you must admit that unilaterally deciding Grovy's real name is "Pipoun" was always going to raise some eyebrows. I mean, this isn't Earthsea, Wakfu characters don't have "true names" only their mentors know. The overriding determinant for a character's name is what the character himself wishes to be known as, and it's pretty clear that "Tristepin" (aka "Sadlygrove" in English) is his preferred moniker.

I have nothing against silly fun stuff on the wiki, but they should be in a specified "silly fun stuff" section. Character bios kind of need to stay focused. I've spent a whole lot of time on this wiki as well, but I'm painfully aware that my stuff is badly-formatted, long-winded obfuscating nonsense that should really be suffering more criticisms than its received. I'm not going to protest taking down "hat" as Yugo's weapon of choice. Even I know that was just dumb.

For some reason today I had the thought that every character in Wakfu kept a journal of their experiences. Not like a "This is what I did today" journal, but just a notebook they scrawled in. I'll just share what I imagine for some reason because I am bored.

Yugo: Filled with drawings of his day coupled with notes to Alibert. Occasionally has notes on monsters.
Eva: It's all notes on monsters. Detailed diagrams of weakpoints and counterattacks. Starts mentioning her companions more and more as it goes on.
Sadlygrove: Childish notes on "Do this/Don't do this". Lists the people who don't like him and the people who do. The latter list is a lot fresher.

Ruel and Amalia both keep notes on the shiny things they saw that day.

>>34545

Why not? It's not like we lack space for now.

>>34550

I said ANON. Not namefag, or whatever it is called now.

>>34552

Yugo: We saw it during the series. He just keeps ripping the pages and sending them as mail.

Eva: Drawings of pink bow-meows and a lot of sparkly hearts.

Ruel: Cold, mechanically precise list of money spent/earned. Angry faces when the first sum is bigger. Happy faces when otherwise.

Recently, all sad faces, with few exceptions.

Amalia: A romance story, incredibly detailed, with dozens of subplots and hundreds of characters. Would gain worldwide acclaim, but it will never see light as it would be improper.

Pipi: He can't write, so first few pages are filled with Xses. Then, he lost his pencil anyway and kept using it as flat hygienic roll :P
>> No. 34554
>>34549

Except he was called so by mentor/family figure. For examples of characters who turned out to be called differently despite using other name for a long time, see Indiana Jones and Ben Kenobi :P

>Try to convince me that Chewbacca was the driving force behind the entire Star Wars saga.

Pffft, that's laughably easy. Without him, the Empire would never fall, and the Jedi would have been extinct.

EP3: Saves Yoda's life, gives him means to get off planet, means he later uses to go to Dagobah. If Yoda died, there would be no Jedi after EP4.

EP4: Thanks to meeting with Chewie, certain Han Solo was kicked out of the Academy. Exit one cold Imperial Officer, enter a smuggle with conscience. He was the one who agreed to take Obi Wan to his partner in Cantina. Later, he convinces Han to go back for Luke and to stop Vader in crucial moment.

No Chewie, Luke shot down, rebellion crushed.

EP5: Thanks to him repairing Millennium Falcon in time, Leia catches ride with Han. It's lucky, since Empire caught most of the fleeing transports. On Bespin, Chewie notices missing C3P0, alerting them to Lando's betrayal much earlier, then heroically fights to get Leia off Bespin.

No Chewie, Leia captured and turned to the dark side.

EP6: Infiltration of Jabba's Palace. No Chewie, heroes dead. Endor, he picks up dead animal, something others were reluctant to do, contacting them with Ewoks. No Chewie, they die outnumbered. Later, he captures AT-ST. Empire basically won the land battle, but Han manages to trick them using AT's comm system to open the door and come into ambush. No Chewie, generator stays unharmed.

End result - destruction of DS2, death of the Emperor, Return of the Jedi - all impossible without his efforts. Not even Luke can claim that much credit :P

I don't remember what he did in EU during EP 1 & 2, but I guess it was some serious shit, like diverting Trade Federation's attention in crucial moment with an angry holomail, or helping Obi Wan expose clone plot by mentioning assassin darts to Dax a few minutes earlier :>

I was actually referring to one essay somebody wrote about how Chewbacca directly and intentionally orchestrated everything. What you've done is just list off ways in which he helped the story along, which can be done for any major character. Even C-3P0. You'd have to try harder than that.

but, on a side note, i disagree with your assertation of Eva's notes. She grew up as a bodyguard, and only after meeting Yugo did she realize her beauty, and femininity (note how she looks in the mirror in ep4)

and it's Pinpin. A cut-off of Tristepin

I'd love to see it, but that's mostly due to the selfish reason of being personally starved for more Wakfu. You could probably take it in a direction like the other gag comics, with metahumor about Sadlygrove's demise/sexual T-Rex/dem hips, or maybe something with the characters acting in an authentic fashion, but that might be harder to pull off in gag-a-day.

Here's a prompt that comes to mind: Yugo asking Sadlygrove, "What does 'enter the Legend' mean?"

A little treat for you my friends (seriously, it's barely longer than 10 seconds).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTZRcXNckIo

Hopefully you're a fan of Channel Awesome or you won't quite get the joke.

Still, it's a nice change of pace from AMVs don't you think?

THis is more or less the pilot for what I hope will be a short series of 'Wakfu Abridged' videos. I apoplogize for the somewhat choppy editing and lack of vid quality (iMovie won't let me use mkv or avi files), those I'd like some tips on. What I'd most like critique for is my Nox voice. I'm a big fan of Nox, and although this version pokes a little fun at him, I'd like to create something that the frequenters of Wakfu General boards and Wakfu Fans in General, would enjoy.

Hopefully LittleKuriboh, NC/Channel Awesome, and Ankama don't sue me...

Pretty good voice, editing was decent as well. One problem: I'm not sure how Ankama sound engineers developed Nox's voice reverb/echo/pitch, but it might be a good idea to spend some time trying to emulate it. Be prepared to spend some time tweaking an equalizer on a copy of the voice, probably leaving the original voice recording alone. It sounds as if they tried making Nox sound as if he was rambling on from behind a megaphone.

Frighteningly enough, they're canon.

I called this creation... Explosive Fear. Because at the slightest emotion... An enchanting perfume will bewitch your beloved.
-Amalia: What a delightful creation.
-Renate: Here is now the Fine Bite dress. Even though it has a strong power of attraction, it will keep your clingiest admirers at a distance.

Made a new video, this one's a sample of the upcoming 4 minute Wakfu Abridged: Nox's Clockwork Council of Chaos. I say sample, because the rest is pretty much done.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VszQ1jkmj-k

I just have reservations about the voice. I've used a 'Megaphone' filter to try and emulate the Nox's vocal effect from the show. I think it came out all right, but I'd just like to know if I should go with this effect, or simply use my voice without it.

Input within the next two days would be greatly appreciated, as I'd hate to have it just sit there on my computer, and not be on all your browsers.

Thanks again.

>>34592
First, I greatly appreciate your offer. But this and the following video don't require much vocal variety, and I think I can handle the handful of roles required. Is the second sentence meant to be a general statement to the effect of "one has to love new trends" or is he saying something more like "I'm sure you will like the new trends". If its the second option I'd phrase this "You're gonna love the new trends."

-Amalia: Take that off me at once!
"Get this off me at once!" That vs This is used to denote near vs far, generally anything you're wearing, holding, or are directly positioned on will take This. No grammatical reason for get vs take, just a matter of more common phrasing.

It's alive? IT'S ALIVE!!! Bit rough around the edges, but overall, alive!

Wakfu Abridged as we know it has taken it's first bold voyage into 2011, And it's Nox taking the first step!

Intrigue, Death, Action, Suspense, Deception, Pain, Humor, Trolling and perhaps a hug or two all packed into 5 minutes of deranged editing and voicework. Can Nox navigate this labyrinth of plot calamities and devices in time to put his final plan into motion? Or will he fall pray to a troll of a much different sort?

It was very flat, in my mind. The video loops were particularly distressing, as was the fact that Nox changed outfits and locations randomly. An Abridged series generally shouldn't have to rely on such heavy editing.

I like how Ankama manages to make the villains still recognizable of their class but still looking very unique. You can see that Remington is a rogue but he still sports a vastly different color scheme and design flow.
Same with Nox. There is no doubt when you see him that he's a Xelor but still his armor and coloring near the opposite of regular xelors (They normally have a white/blue coloring and round armor, he has a dark-grey/brown theme and rather edgy armor).

It was decent. Albeit a little too Nox-oriented, but I suppose it is rather difficult to pull off a series only using scenes with the villain. My honest advice, keep at your idea but expand your character roster and rethink some of the dialogue. I'm sorry if I come off as snippy or anything but sometimes it just seemed to drudge on. Still though, heck of a lot better of a writer than I could ever be and be sure to keep at it. I'm sure you'll find a medium that works for you and remember...if you ever need any voice work, I'm here! : )

Also, for anyone who wants to give it a look.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXFUkv_w9FU#t=0m38s

Some of you folks might not remember me but a while ago, I went through 3 different 'tests' in order to find a suitable center that would benefit the Nox character for a supposed fan-dub that I attempted to get together with a few kind people here on /coc/. I eventually gave up on the project because, loltoomuchwork, the lack of VA's and the fact that there would be an inevitable official English dub in the near future, thus rendering my effort and time moot. Anyways, I feel that the last 'test' was when I had finally found the appropriate voice to use for the dub, though that's open for debating.

Actually I figured it out

This part must happen before whatever time skip they have, because I know season two does take place some time later, and AMalia does look taller and thinner in the waist in that other picture there.

Actually, I find the opposite is true. Wakfu's characters tend to look like generic cookie cutters of the class concepts. That's one thing I always notice about these class-based games or stories. It's very limiting, when the premise for your entire race is "brown, wears leaves, green hair" or "metal, bandaged, clock-face mask."

In that pic for example, very little sets those two apart. I could easily believe they were the same person wearing a slightly different outfit, if not for their skin tone. And those are the most identifiable designs, due to their importance. The generic everyday people are little more than color swaps.

Really want to know? Not really any studying or vocal training was required. I kinda just taught myself in a way. I suppose I started out messing around with action figures as a kid and pretending to do the characters voices from the TV show. Of course, back then it sounded nothing like I do today and was more or less, nothing more than squirrel chatter. From there, I really didn't discover that I had a possible future in the career of VA'ing until just a few years ago when I began recognizing familiar voices in my favorite shows and began browsing /co/ regularly. I was kinda entranced by the idea that people could get payed top dollar for doing voices if they were deemed 'good enough'. I just got accepted into Broadcasting School a few days ago, I'm on my way to the real deal and I have to tell you, nothing has felt more gratifying since. :)

So basically, watch a shit-ton of cartoons and act out the roles of your favorite characters as frequently as possible. Taking a peek or two at some helpful hints from professionals every now and then won't hurt either! Who knows, maybe you'll have a future as a VA as well!

Alas, there is a downside to my current situation. I have yet to be hired on for anything, whether it be fan-works or small projects. I'd like to get in on some kind of project if possible and I'd highly appreciate it if any of you guys knew anyone who needed some vocal assistance and could refer them to me. Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

And the cliche of talking in the mirror actually helps too, when it comes to the voices. Really it's just practice and imitation of a voice you find interesting. And from that base voice you like so much you can take it further and create other new voices.

We're aware, but the folks at Ankama know we're doing it and overlook it. The general consensus here is that they're ignoring it because it doesn't lose them anything and is in the fuzzier side of copyright law (akin to mix tapes).

If we put up DVD rips, their legal department has something solid to go on. Regardless of whether anybody is hurt by it, the illegality of recorded broadcasting is questionable at worst, while DVD rips are absolute.

And before anyone chimes in with "lol how do you know?", Ankama have already slapped a C&D against a wiki that had been helping us host the TVrips. Some damn fool cretin posted links to the site on the official Wakfu forums, and they'd posted links to here too. Ankama know we exist.

We don't do TV rips here :D

These are Webrips, widely broadcasted on Anakama video broadcast, and the content (the videos) have no Terms of Use stating that the content can only be viewed in their own video player.

-Title: The Enutrof's blues-

I'm a poor Enutrof,
I've lost my friends.
I'm without a Kama,
And I don't want to rot here!
I spend my days doing nothing,
I'm off my rocker.
I'm gonna end up rusty,
I've really got to get outta here...
And it is at these times,
That I think about you.
About you my beautiful, secret one,
Yeah!
You go to my head!
A mine like that,
You don't see that every day.
I did find you...
And I kept secret,
That one needs iron to enter,
That there are lots of traps to avoid.
But once you've done that,
All the treasures are yours.

I spend my days doing nothing,
I'm losing my mind.

About you, so secret and stunnin',
Yeah! You make my head spinin'!
So great a mine,
you don't see but once a lifetime.
I did find where you lie,
and keep secret thereby...
To enter, on iron, you'll rely,
and that there are many traps to defy!

you'll find the treasures so fine.

If they go the same route as season 1, the episodes will be aviable in streaming for one week on Ankama's website, starting right after they air on TV every saturday morning.

We used to get the file from the stream as a first source for the subs, then later release a V2 encoded from TV recording which usually had better quality than the stream.

However, for season 2, we might use directly the TV recording, since subbing will take a bit more time. The goal is to have only one release with high standards (both video and translation) right from the start, even if that means delaying by 2-3 days compared to what we did in season 1.

Um, actually, I'd have a huge request for the translators - can you please make French subtitles at the same time? :(

Or at least write the French dialogue list, like you did with mini-Wakfus, so I could replace and make subtitles on my own? I'd love to use Wakfu to help with my French pronunciation, but it turns out official DVDs have shit subtitles (with 50% of the words cut) so I can't use them for that purpose :(

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SQUARE ENIX ANNOUNCES CLOSED BETA FOR WAKFU

First Official Details for the Highly Anticipated MMORPG, WAKFU + New Screenshots

LOS ANGELES (January 21, 2011) -- Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of SQUARE ENIX® interactive entertainment products in North America, has announced the North American Closed Beta for the highly anticipated MMORPG, WAKFU. Fans are encouraged to sign up to engage in an exclusive, first-hand experience of WAKFU during the inaugural Closed Beta which starts on January 31st. Players will engage with others to battle and bond over the offerings found in the world of WAKFU.

WAKFU is an innovative Tactical MMORPG that takes place in a fantasy universe created by Ankama for adventurers of all levels. WAKFU will transport you to a magical universe full of action and adventure, with over 14 character classes, a unique turn-based combat system, and strange, colorful landscapes. It’s up to you to find your own strategy and succeed in the challenges you’ll face along the way. Who knows, maybe you’ll become one of WAKFU’s greatest heroes?

THE STORY OF WAKFU

The World of Twelve has known nothing but chaos and upheaval for one dark millennium. The terrible Ogrest had succeeded where so many had failed, gathering together all six of the legendary dragon’s eggs called Dofus. But he became consumed with the strength that had nourished him. And now, mad with rage and unable to control his destructive power, Ogrest let his wrath beat down upon the World.

Legends speak of a cosmic battle between the gods, a boundless deluge, and the advent of a titan. As players step into a world whose landmass has shrunk to but a few vast islands and archipelagos in a single ocean, they have the opportunity to help shape the world and write the story of WAKFU. The World awaits its heroes!

GAME FEATURES

· 14 highly original classes – with 25 spells each, giving players the opportunity to become a fierce warrior, a magician with healing powers, an assassin or even a summoner able to call plants or animals.

· Tactical gameplay – Turn-based tactical combat means that players will have to think their way through battles.

· Evolving Ecosystem – Player actions affect the world around them. Kill that monster and it may be gone for good. Harvest that wheat and it might never reappear there again. Players will have to carefully choose when to protect or exploit natural resources.

· Sparkling Humor – As you adventure through the world of WAKFU, you will discover a world with an unusual sense of humor. Where else can you find a suit of armor that makes the wearer look like a giant rabbit?

· Customizable Characters – Robust set of customization features for players to select to create truly personalized characters. Green hair? Check. Grey skin? Check. A far-out hairstyle? Check.

· Playing Politics – Brute force is not the only way to rule. Engage in a rich political system that allows for voting, the election of government officials, tax collection, and more.

A redesigned web site containing new information and assets has just been launched. Developed by Ankama, Square Enix will publish WAKFU in North America this spring. The game will support Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. For more information on WAKFU, visit the official site http://www.wakfu.com/na. Follow us on Facebook www.facebook.com/SquareEnixWakfu and Twitter www.twitter.com/SquareEnixWakfu.

And it's Mini Wakfu time again!
Raw @ http://www.ankama.com/fr/207-video-mini-wakfu/2115-cawottes-cuites-mini-wakfu-episode-21
No song this time, but yet another tricky title.

-Title: "Les cawottes sont cuites"-

It refers to the French expression "les carottes sont cuites" ("the carrots are cooked"), which means "it's all over".
The pun lies on both the "carrots" side (the juice Yugo drinks in the episode), and on the "cooked" side (Yugo ends up almost "cooked" himself due to his training and the heat).

So, I've looked up English dictionaries once again to find "carrot" related expressions. I only found "carrot and stick", which also has its equivalent in French.

The urban dictionary gave "carrot burn" (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Carrot%20burn), which would be just fine if it can be used in a way that doesn't sound too sexual...
"Carrot burn from training" maybe?

There's also "the carrot kid" (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Carrot%20Kid) which may somewhat fit here; even if it lacks the "hot/cooked" side.

Well, once again I need your ideas to tame this rebellious title! ^^

-Yugo: It feels good to have a break. But it's so hot... And I'm thirsty...
-Adamai: Ta-da!
-Yugo: Wow! It's for me?
-Adamai: Yup! Your favorite juice with some dragoturkey sweat to make it even more thirst-quenching.
-Yugo: Sweat...?
-Adamai: It's gonna well refresh you before you go back to your training.
-Yugo: Say, can I have some more?
-Adamai: Of course, lil' bro!
-Yugo: That's so good! I want some more again!
-Adamai: What? But you've just drunk 34 of them!
-Yugo: More! More!
-Adamai: Alright, here we go! And now, the little final shower!
-Yugo: This rocks! It's too good to be true! I'm gonna drink it all at one go!
I'm thirsty...
-Adamai: You shouldn't be dreaming under the sun like that. So, mind going back to your training already?
>> No. 34909

>> No. 34911
>>34908
>-Adamai: It's gonna well refresh you before you go back to your training.

Would sound more natural as something like "It'll make you feel really refreshed".

>-Yugo: That's so good! I want some more again!
>-Adamai: What? But you've just drunk 34 of them!

The "again" is redundant, and "you just drank" would work a little better than "you've just drunk".

the goultard special was something ankama did before wakfu, just to get their feet wet and tho prove to animation companies that they were awesome. do they simplified the sotry fo the dofus manga. this was waaaay before they knew what they were gonna do for wakfu the series. (at least, i'm pretty sure) from what little i know, he struggles with the demon of no name for decades (goultard is the son of the god iop) and finally loses it before the events of wakfu the series. supposedly theres a thousadn year gap between the era of dofus (when goultard takes place) and wakfu

I'd heard talk of it, and had always thought it would make an interesting midseason twist.

Evangelyne having spent all this time coming to terms with his death, that he couldn't live forever, she should just be happy with the memories, etc, then Tristepin just walks right out of Death, fully alive and now realized as Immortal, being the demigod-son that he actually is, and the tables are turned: Now HE is going to live on far after she bites the dust. They would try to restart a relationship on the journey, but the obvious trouble would be sort of the Aragorn-Arwen complex going on, in reverse.

-Title: The desert's dessert-

- Grovy: I'm starving. I... I can't take it anymore...
- Mini-grovy: Look! We're lucky! A larva! Its flesh is full of proteins, and the water it contains will get us better in no time!
- Grovy: Hey! You don't think I'm gonna eat this?!
- Mini-grovy: Sure I do! Think about it: I'm your consciousness. So if I think, it's because you think that I think what I think. So you think so too.
- Grovy: Er... Okay, if you say so...
- Mini-grovy: Wait! Wait! I think it wants to tell us something important.
- Grovy: Hey! Make up your mind once for all!
- Mini-grovy: Make up YOUR mind, you mean. Since I'm your consciousness, if you think that I think that-
- Grovy: Argh! Okay, stop it! You're getting on my nerves! Well, come on! I'll hear you. I'm curious to know what this larva has to say...
...
- Grovy: What did it say?
- Mini-grovy: It said that if we eat it, we'll turn ourselves into larvas!
- Grovy: And you believe it?
- Mini-grovy: Well, it depends. If you believe that I believe it, then I do. But since you're waiting to know if I believe it to know if you believe it, er... I'm not sure we believe it...

Very natural sounding, great work. I'd just change
>You don't think I'm gonna eat this?!
to "You don't think I'm gonna eat this, do you?!"

The former does work, but it depends on a certain intonation of voice which doesn't come across in subtitles. It would work if it were a dub, but the latter reads better.

No.

One of the things I like about Wakfu is that this series succeeds in turning some basically very cliched characters into very likeable ones.
All of them.
So at the end of season one, I wouldn't mind giving a big hug of affection to any of the characters; especially Eva and Amy, of course!

This.

Even Ruel became someone of an awesome uncle/grandpa kind. Considering that for me he started on a level of "goddamn-uncle-Scrooge-type-of-an-irritating-old-fart", that's an remarkable achivement.

>> No. 35034

Everything about Wakfu was cliche, especially the last two episodes. Adamai's voice was irritating, Yugo went through that whole Oh god I'm about to die, wait a minute, I'll just think about all my friends and suddenly I have unmatched power, Grovy was the lovable idiot, Eva and Amalia were the token females.

I kind of lied in my first post, I also like Ruel, but that's it.

Nox was cliche, as well, but I guess his backstory and the fact that if his plan succeeded, he would undo everything he ever did is what made him likable.
>> No. 35036
>Everything about Wakfu was cliche
Although I agree that we reached a point in creating fiction when almost nothing is original anymore, I still disagree in this precise matter. For a cartoon, Wakfu did great. Some more obvious examples from the top of my head:
- A bad-ass villain called The Black Raven turns out to be an old adventurer, now a hen-pecked husband, missing all the excitement of his young days
- In episode 4, team has to save a knight (Grovy) imprisoned in the tower by four princesses
- Armand, who we meet as a stubborn jerk, turns out to be a loving brother and a good son
- It's not the princess who's being kidnapped all the time, but her bodyguard
- Hero does not win the final fight - in fact, the whole team miserably fails

There are many other details that make Wakfu stand out from most of cartoons, but I think that the main reason it may seem a bit cliche is because it parodies so many of those cliches in every episode.
>> No. 35037
>>35034
Interesting, I guess I interpreted some things differently as I came away with the impression that most of what you identify as cliche was intentional parody.

The farm boy finds some greater calling in life and embarks on a quest of adventure and self discovery. Through his trials and travails he bonds with new friends and learns about himself while being continuously drawn into more and more serious predicaments until the fate of the world rests upon him and the plucky band of misfits gathered around him. Together through the power of love/friendship/diversity/general goodness these unlikely heroes face down the villain and fail miserably.

Smaller details like the loveable idiot being well aware of his position and loathing himself for his inadequacies struck me as pleasant twists on the usual archetypes.

And well tell me I'm overthinking it I guess but I can't help but see Nox as a deliberate satirization of the "never give up never say die" mentality preached in so much childrens' and young adult media.

Hey, guize. UselessGuy here.
I decided to look up episode 17 of Wakfu in german... and what the hell.
The germans are censoring the show? I noticed that the scene where Nox tastes Grougal's punch right in his chest, is obviously censored. Because they cut out the short bit where we see Nox's armor crack and stuff.
Did you guys knew about this?

In the Polish dub they had a few dialogue edits, the most notable being the joke about "a woman being to a man what the sheath is to the sword" because it would sound super, SUPER dirty in Polish. We also had our share of minor (thankfully!) fuckups. But editing the video itself? Nope.

Polish dub not only the first, but also the best? Yay!

Question:
Are the Wakfu DVDs available for sale outside France? If they are, then I've got another question.

1. Ankama, and Amazon.fr are happy to ship them to you wherever you are, shipping was less than $10 to get them as far as Texas so I can't imagine wherever you might be would be unreasonable.
2. No one will prosecute you for having the subtitles, theres only a slim question of legality to having them if you aren't distributing and at that point its not as if you have enough money to make taking legal action against you worthwhile for a corporate entity
3. Still no word on official English subs
>> No. 35090

If you don't want to use Ankama's shop, then try eBay, that's where I got mine. They still will be sent from France though, so your choice. There are no English subtitles. But man, are those DVDs sweet or what? I didn't have a second of regret after buying them.

And yeah, as long as you have original DVDs you can legally own rips ("backup copies") and subs for your own use. At least in my country.

>Did they have problems with impacts/hits just in Germany or in putting them into a show at all? Is the French TV crazy as well?
It's a recurring thing in many countries for kids' TV, and originated in the US (though US networks are more kinda relaxed about that now). Things like putting a flash instead of the impact frame, or just showing the frames *after* the hit, are popular workarounds.

In fact I'm not even sure it's specifically for german TV, since on the other hand they're fine with One Piece, which doesn't shy away from punches (though they may be considered cartoony enough to be ignored).

That's what I did at first actually. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out very well because of the karaoke effects I chose.
When the subs are attached to the top of the screen, the growing letters make the whole line swing up and down a little too much.
And since I didn't want to make the audience seasick, I finally decided to put the karaoke lines at the bottom! ;P

Well, I'll see if I can find a workaround when I'll make the subs for actual episodes.

Now I know you all love Wakfu as much as I do so I am not going into any details about why this show is great since you probably know them all. Though, I will say NewWakfuFan is right that Yugo is the best kid hero ever.

First, it's Sadlygrove, not SadlygroOve.

Second, in french, "Tristepin" is a portmanteau of "triste" which means "sad" and "pin" which means "pine". We know, through the making-of artbooks, the international trailers and the test-dubs of the first two episodes that Ankama had planned to keep this name construction in the english version and went with "Sadlygrove" (which they thought sounded better than a transparent translation to "Sadpine")

His nickname of "Grovy", however, is purely fan-made, since we don't know the official one planned by Ankama, and translators had to improvise and find him a suitable one. For the record, his french nickname, "Pinpin" sounds like the name a 3 year-old kid would give to his bunny plushie. This nickname could be given to a person in a very colloquial context, yet it has a connotation of affectionate condescension, something like "yeah, he's not very bright, but he's nice and we like him".

I don't know if his fan-made english nickname conveys such thing, keeping in mind it had to be phonetically reminiscent of his true name, not an easy task for a translator.

As for the debate of wether or not his name should be reverted to Tristepin in further fansubbed projects, I think I'll keep Sadlygrove. First, this is an official name that has 99% chances to be used when the series get an official english release. Second people have been used to it (and the associated nicknamee) for almost two years now. And third, it's easier to ignore the name difference between what you read in your own language and what you think you hear in the gibberish of a foreign language, than it would be to get used to a new name when the series gets oficially dubbed, so I keep with what will probably be the name they'll use.

And to the purists that are already calling blasphemy, well, they are entiteled their opinion, and I respect that, but .. well .. pic related :p

>"Pinpin" sounds like the name a 3 year-old kid would give to his bunny plushie
Fun fact: Tristepin's Polish nickname is "Misiek", which is the literal equivalent of "teddy bear".
>This nickname could be given to a person in a very colloquial context, yet it has a connotation of affectionate condescension
"Misiek" is also used in Poland as a short and "lovable" version of the name Michael (Michal). It's also often used when members of the family refer to a baby boy or a young boy (even if their name is not Michael) who's cute and adorable.

So yeah, a perfect example of creative translation. Which had to be done by the way, because any attempts of translating "Tristepin" to Polish would end up as incredibly messed up and unnatural clump of words. That's why his name here is simply "Sir Percidal".

That's right, however this wasn't known by the time the first translators had to improvise, but I think it was mentioned in one of the artbooks (anyone owning them can confirm ?).
Now the nickname is open to debate, but I'll still stick with Sadlygrove for the full name

If the former, how does the translation process work? I don't have any technical knowledge worth mentioning for subbing, but I'm a translator, so I figured I might be useful. Still, if someone properly transcribes all the French dialogues, I can send him a copy of the sub file once it's been timed. He'll just have to replace the English lines with the French ones, and send me back the file so that I can add it to the softsubbed release.

There you go.

I was wondering should I put those pics here at all, but the trailer had already aired more than once on France 3, it can apparently be seen on the Ludo website, soon it will show up Youtube and the pics are already on 4chan, so what's the point of pretending this thing doesn't exist?

Funny, I hadn't noticed that yet. Having not seen the video, I'd still say it doesn't necessarily mean what you're hinting at. Practically everything and everyone's name is a play on words, so they might as well have simply chosen that one because it was the first they thought about.

At any rate, I will die a little inside if they bring him back. They were mature enough to be willing to kill a main character, I sure hope it's not simply because they were planning ro revive him for the raving fanboys and girls all along. I still have faith in their storytelling abilities.

First, thanky for your awesome subs, guys. I really can't describe how grateful I am.

I'd also be satisfied with a ripped graphic of Lou (Yep, that one on the picture), even if it wouldn't solve my problem in its entirety.

It's a "cross-media" story. It starts in Mini Wakfu Mag, continues with a little online game, then a TV episode, and finally ends @ Ankama Convention #6.

The site for the mini game is http://www.maxi-mini.fr
Unfortunately, it's all in French.

So far, it contains
- A summary of Chapter 1, which I suppose is the story that was published in MiniWakfu Mag.
- Chapter 2, which is the mini game itself. Well, it's not much of a game actually... But the cinematics are damn funny!

Chapter 3 will be the episode that will air after Wakfu on the 26th.

Chapter 4 will be something @ Ankama Convention #6.

I'll give a little summary of the story later if some one happens to be interested.
Something interesting I noticed though, is that Remington presents his cat as being "his brother Grany". The cat actually talks, and it's Kriss Krass' voice actor who does his voice.
>Goodness inside! ^^

Hey thanks for that, I wasn't expecting them to be released this soon but I did like the soundtrack to MaxiMini (kind of made up for the rest).

By the way SantaBla is going to stream some more Wakfu tonight when he's done with his other /m/ shows, so check the link above to keep posted (mazin time).

Anyone on beta can tell me your overall opinions on the fights and classes?

Am I the only one who feel it is way too Ecaflip-ish? Status skill who have 5% to apply a status, 6% on a LEVEL 4 support skill to do double damage/avoid 1 damaging attack on close combat, 10% to apply a status on a spell who costs 5 AP and 1 WP?

Seriously, this is the most luck based tactical game I've ever played, not even dofus is this bad.

No I don't hate randomness, I like it, but on a class who can take the unreliability, hell, Iop have Feline Spirit as a spell now.

Yes I mad

this sums up half of the complaints about current version on the french forums. Most beta-testers hate the current randomness of the game which has almost no tactical aspect.
Every fight is straight "killing your opponent faster than he kills you" with sometimes a little bonus that makes things easier for a turn, but on which you shouldn't rely on when you decide to engage the fight in the first place.

Well, Vargas probably was an Enutrof... But he fits the "greedy jew" stereotype so well it would be a sin no to make fun of it. :)

Set sail with the Chapter III.2 of The YuGang Collection!

It's like Chapter III, it's about the same guy, but I put a .2 at the end so you know it's slighltly better.

Also it details the final struggle of Ruel Stroud, his future, his past, his heart and the long sought out answer to the eternal question you never thought to ask yourself:

What do Sasuke Uchicha and Ruel Stroud have in common?

See, Now you HAVE to KNOW!!!

All this and more in:

Up next, one page of Adamai, and Three Posts dedicated to the Up-And-Coming Klutz, Sir Sadlygrove Percival!!!
