Sure Reynard, why not just ignore how you just explained that it took years of imprisonment followed by being forced to obey someone who both knew how to control you and wanted to show you mercy to change your murderous ways by denying Hetty the same opportunity?

Except Reynard wasn't ever like Hetty, and she clearly had no intention of getting better. Reynard was a mischievous fox given dangerous powers that he ended up regretting. Hetty was a monster stuck in a more friendly form, endlessly torturing a boy and planning on killing people just for not knowing she exists.

Well he did only now just see the boy. I'm wondering what they ever did together at all, though, given that murder plots look to be the only thing she ever even bother thinking about. The chapter so far has basically been "Look Reynard, here's this friendly acquaintance you have outside of schoo- EVERY NON-SUPERFICIAL TRAIT SHE HAS IS 'SADISTIC MANIAC', KILL HER NOW! Good, now you've reminded the audience of your noble traits that apparently we've been too busy to show recently or something."

I'm thinking that at some point she was a bit more pleasant dealing well being a doll because the sister paid attention to her. But then the sister grew up and lost interest in her so she went all "Evil Jessie" and started on this road to madness. Stupid Shrimp Demon, never trust Shellfish.

At the moment it does kinda feel like Hetty was a blatant plot device to assert Rey's 'good guy' status. Something before the end of the chapter (or possibly in a later one) might fill in some blanks, but her character was pretty much out of left field.

Though if I was right and this chapter was just Rey playing make-believe again (this time as a vehicle to reassure himself), then Hetty's out-of-nowhere introduction and their unexplained prior relationship all make more sense.

There's a difference between pretending to be stupid and just refraining from launching into a diatribe with an audience you doubt will be receptive. The former is a cause for concern, but the latter is just being thoughtful.

Kat doesn't seem to be pretending to be dumb here, she just seems to be trying not to be boring in front of her girlfriend.

Though she is being a bit dumb in not realizing Paz was asking her to put her arm around her.

This is entry-level physiology stuff you get shown in high school, and for anyone interested in it, like Paz, it's cool, not creepy. And the thing with doing research on animals is that one way or another, you're eventually going to have to kill some of them and take them apart. The killing part is not easy and should not be easy, but dissection and looking at different parts doesn't actually take that much getting used to. A corpse, or a piece of the corpse, is not an animal anymore. Besides, you likely ate meat for most of your life so it's not like you aren't used to seeing and manipulating disembodied chunks of muscle.

What's slightly creepier than controlling muscle contractions with electricity is to just use table salt (or soy sauce in this video), so the muscles start contracting on their own.

I'm thinking more the end purpose in these experiments rather than the demonstration themselves being the reasoning for future possible unease. Its only a hop and skip form this to a resurrected cat trying to rip ones throat out. Though Paz being a willing assistant on this venture would be interesting.
