After over a decade of different kinds of therapy, every med known to man, volunteering to help others/feel accomplished, self-help, ECT, hotlines, etc, with none of it having any kind of effect, I have been offered DBS treatment for my depression. It's my understanding that they're still in the process of developing it further, and the people in charge are interested in how treatment-resistant my case has been, so they're offering to do it for free so it can help their studies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_brain_stimulation#Major_depression I'm seriously considering it at this point, but I find myself nervous. It's going to be the first time I'm subjected to an invasive surgical procedure.
