AUGUST 31st IS SO FAR AWAYYYY

(checks schedule)

So Nebraska is playing against Illinois, Purdue, Minnesota, Northwestern, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, and Iowa. Wow, after the last two seasons we REALLY got a softball schedule this year, with no Ohio or Wisconsin. Hopefully it doesn't lead to any overconfidence on our part near the latter part of the season.

>> No. 386964
Just like Oregon, now Alabama not only can't go for the National Championship, but can't even compete for the SEC title because of the loss. Personally, as someone whose team has seen its fair share of losses, I'm sympathetic.

Well US lost its taste for the game after last time so nobody would likely care, even less since the whole Beckam thing went nowhere. What is it with pro soccer groups getting the older Superstars and attempt to use them as a promo tool instead of actual up and coming or you know boosting the college level. I had cousins that played all the way into college, until it dried up.
>> No. 387292

>since the whole Beckam thing went nowhere.

Compare pre-Becks MLS to current MLS.
The league's just 15 years old and its fucking leaping bounds.
Its baby steps. The bigwigs don't want another burnout like the last three attempts at a pro league in the states.

nah I mean it just doesn't get broadcast on my local anymore. Sorry if I"m being unclear. Do any stations like radio or internet broadcast carry the games? Habit I picked up from the grandparents during their days watching college basketball when they preferred the radio announcer to the television one. Also leaves me free to do other things.

I was thinking this, too. Not necessarily foul play, though. Just the odds. They take bets on EVERYTHING, and the chances of any of the following happening during a Super Bowl are extremely small:

Safety
Two-point Conversion
Kickoff Return for Touchdown
Shutout in First Half

Yet all those happened. In practicality, the betting odds for those would probably have been hundreds to one against. There are some people out there who made "stupid" bets that just made shitloads of money.

The thing is, I don't think it's really possible to "rig" something like this. For example, you couldn't possibly pay Peyton Manning enough money to make him intentionally give the worst performance of his career. Any player at that level is going to be ridiculously competitive and egoistic, and he's so incredibly rich that $10 million would be a pittance. What are they going to do? Bribe him with a billion dollars? Take his family hostage? Threaten to break his knees? That's silly talk.

So as much as my cynical, miserly personality wants to believe that all professional sports contests are fixed, I can't fathom how it would actually work.
>> No. 389120
>>389077
Well, at that level you don't hold money over somebody, you hold the lifestyle over them. Power isn't about money, it's about what you can make other people do for you.

Then again, this is all just vile speculation, completely unprovable. Maybe they all tried the weed before the game or some shit.

It's kinda disgusting how the German media deals with the whole Hoeneß thing. They portray him as some kid of martyr, whose sentence was unjustly harsh. He's a fucking criminal. That's why he's in jail now. In fact, he was the one actively going for the jail sentence to prevent more stuff from getting dug up. That's how much of a fucking criminal he is.
