Now that the final Pierrot-animated episode of Korra has come to pass, let's have a moment of silence for the studio that gave us all this breathtakingly-drawn quality.

There's one more after the two-parter that's their's. We'll honor them then.

Good. Mir's animation was the only thing that made Korra worthwhile.

Yawn.

While the last two episodes were sub par ,i can't really say they did a bad job. first 4 episodes were still pretty good. Not as good as the first season, but not the god awful quality some people keep saying.

IMO the worst offenses were Iroh in the fifth episode and Korra riding Naga in the... fourth one I think?

I wish I was a fly on the wall during the meeting/screening session where the tipping point was reached on dumping Pierrot/Mir insisting they take over.

I wonder if Pierrot did some principle animation for Beginnings and everyone simply found it unacceptable for the story Mike, Bryan, and Joaquim were itching to tell for the longest time?

Pierrot hasn't been terrible, but going from Pierrot to Mir is like going from Outback Steakhouse to Peter Luger.

I can't hate Pierrot. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury I submit to you that the "legend" of Korra is how moe she is.

There's a difference between moƩ and cutesiness that goes completely over the top on purpose and induces disgust. Guess which one Pierrot can do?

That's kind of an overreaction to a :3 face that lasted all of two seconds.

I actually didn't notice the change from Mir to Pierrot until people started bringing it up.

I find the differences in animation more fascinating than anything.

Oh, come on guys. Do we really need a whole thread dedicated to Pierrot's QUALITY? I'll be the first to admit Mir is better, but for every terrible shot Pierrot's done, I could find some nice ones for you. It's a mediocre studio, but not a terrible one.

>>115190
I will admit that this bugged me too.

It's hard to top Mir. Korra's season one animation surpassed almost every episode of Atla, and the drawings were even more detailed.
While Pierrot is very static and often off-model, I've seen way worse than that.

Statues next to actual moving characters, people supposed to be sitting in the background though its more like hovering. T-Rex hands Korra

I hope it stays that way, too.
Sure, there have been a few hiccups here and there, but they've done some good things overall.
Personally, I thought they handled the break-up scene really nicely.

So, I watched ATLA all at once after the fandom had kind of quieted down and I don't know if this has been discussed prior but...can I assume from this thread that I wasn't the only person who noticed the huge divide between the two animation studios there?

The "good" one (imho) is the studio that animated The Beach, The Boiling Rock pt 2, etc. The "bad" one is the one that animated the last episode, The Boiling Rock pt 1, etc. The "good" one just always looked...so much sharper and cleaner and more detailed to me. Everyone looked a little fuzzy and derpy with the "bad" one. Characters also tended to be more angular and "anime" looking with the good studio.

Has this discussion happened before? It's bugged me for years now.

It was the other way around. The good (and main) studio was JM Animation, while DR Movie/Moi was the cheaper one. Maybe you just liked the different character models better, but the animation was way weaker (with a few exceptions like episode 311 and the beach fight scene with Combustion Man).
Episodes 320-321 are both by JM and feature some of the strongest animation on television.

In facts, the JM animators from atla have migrated to Studio Mir

UGGGHNNNN... this just makes me miss the bending. I feel like we haven't had a REALLY good bending fight in Korra this season, which is a bummer, because it felt like we were getting fed a steady diet of kung fu films last season...
