>>I'm so used to heroes in shows pulling the honorable if I kill him I'd be just as bad card, but someone talking about the fight really made me notice it. When Tarrlok is dangling from a high ledge, Korra doesn't do the stupid hero thing and help him up, she knocks his ass off.

I agree with>>103528 in that I don't think she was actively trying to kill him per say... but she's certainly not the type of person to hold back. You're right, she isn't the type of cartoon protagonist to keep dangerous actions or life threatening injuries off the table, this much is true. Korra is very, very raw. She's got no filters, she sees something she wants/wants to do and she just goes and goes; regardless of what said thing is. It adds a nice degree of tension to this series, because I know that (to an extent) Korra won't stop at the last minute and go "No! No, that's not how us good guys do things".

As... bloodthirsty as this might sound, its one of the reasons I like the show so much and like Korra as a character so much because she's so driven by primal emotions and doesn't let "the right thing" stop her. Sometimes, you just want the hero to whip out a gun and at least try to shoot the bastard. Not saying the hero actually has to shoot the guy, but the motive must be present.

Well that would certainly explain why they held off on showing benders mistreating nonbenders AFTER the Equalists emerged. Because as it stands they're basically riding on an offscreen Freudian excuse and their cause wasn't shown to have much merit until this happened, which wasn't until after they showed up.

agreed, at first that aspect of her kind of annoyed me but now I really like it and it makes her a lot more interesting than the usual bland "moralfag" behavior I've come to expect of cartoon protagonists

I don't think she necessarily has killer instinct or intended to kill Tarrlock. She didn't have a whole lot of "intent" period.

Like Avatar Kuruk (who she REALLY needs to look up), she's a bit of a brash showoff, loves a good fight, loves some hot sexy eye-candy, hates sitting around doing nothing, and is all about just going with the flow, acting on impulse rather than thinking things through. "I'm gonna be a stowaway and go to Republic City! What'll I do when I get there? Eh, I'll think of something. STOWAWAY! Man that sounds cool..."

If someone had yelled "that's it Korra, kill him!" during the fight with Tarrlok she would have frozen up horrified and stammered a "n-no, I'm not... I wouldn't kill him!" or something to that effect.

But he hit her with brutal attacks, and she just went with it, throwing brutal attacks right back without thinking about it and going "oh right, he was trying to kill me, so if I start throwing the same sort of shit back at him, he's likely to die. Hmmm. Which would probably be badish. I guess. For a few reasons. Like... um... oh! Sanctity of life, due process, and all that... Plus it'd make Tenzin really cranky."

She really needs to learn about Avatar Kuruk though, because the lifestyle he lived ended up costing him dearly. It would behoove her to learn from his mistakes.

>>103551
I don't think so, while in general Korra and Kuruk lead similar sorts of lifestyles and have similar mindsets; the specific mistake that Kuruk made that led to his divine punishment was that he didn't get involved in world affairs that much. Now Korra could be faulted by trying to solve problems in a heavy-handed or overly naive way, but she is certainly not ignoring the problems and conflicts of the world around her.

Long ago, in a distant land, I read an interview with Mike and Bryan that had them explaining the basic premise for this show before it was produced was that it would be a miniseries which, like the execrable Fox show 24, told a rigorously-defined story over a short time frame with minimal dissertation or exploration.
>> No. 103759
>>103757
>>103755
There's nothing wrong with shorter, more coherent stories. I haven't watched 24, but if it sucked it was because of the writing and the acting, not because of the fact that the story was self contained and stayed on-point.
>> No. 103760
>>103759
No it sucked because, like Korra at its worst, it's extremely pressed for time and chooses to focus on trivialities without being able to give them emotional content that might make the audience feel rewarded for having seen them and the pacing is screwed all to hell by the need to pack the first part of the show with hooks that never pay off because by the time you get to the meat of the story it's over in three episodes and the finale is upon you.

Ok I'm gonna try n help explain this.

The spiritual side is glitchy cause aang was actually killed in the avatar state katara revived him with the sacred water this was the only reason he survived it was explained in the episodes themselves this is why the connection is wonky it's barely there anymore I have no doubts she'll connect eventually but this was a key point I'm surprised you all forgot. azula actually killed aang in the avatar state. katara reviving him may have been the only thing that kept the cycle from breaking completely ok it was still there for aang but i'm sure when the next cycle began it faltered a bit wich is understandable.

More like public "solutions".

I seriously don't think the Equalists have killed a single person yet.

I mean, that'll probably change when they start dropping bombs from the sky, but you know. Decent track record so far.
