>Vafnir, the energy magnate, like Gannis, was also physically present, but, in order to demonstrate the vast wealth of his holdings, he had had his mind recorded into a high-speed energy matrix, which hung above the table and burned like a pillar of fire. The amount of computer time spent recalculating his nerve paths and magnetic envelope shape every time the slightest energy change occurred in the room was tremendous. The pillar of flame was burning hundreds of seconds a second.

That's badass, but...THAT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE ANY SENSE.

When J.D. Salinger dies and achieves transcendence, will all the stuff he has been writing and stashing away be available to the public. How would it work, if, let's say there's stacks from floor to ceiling of work, for hundreds of books, labeled by him to be published or otherwise...Yes I am taking the scenario that he hasn't destroyed, hidden them, or given up writing, I want to know if it all does exist, if everything would just be published or what?

CORNISH, NH—In this big dramatic production that didn't do anyone any good (and was pretty embarrassing, really, if you think about it), thousands upon thousands of phonies across the country mourned the death of author J.D. Salinger, who was 91 years old for crying out loud. "He had a real impact on the literary world and on millions of readers," said hot-shot English professor David Clarke, who is just like the rest of them, and even works at one of those crumby schools that rich people send their kids to so they don't have to look at them for four years. "There will never be another voice like his." Which is exactly the lousy kind of goddamn thing that people say, because really it could mean lots of things, or nothing at all even, and it's just a perfect example of why you should never tell anybody anything.

Goddammit.

GODFUCKING DAMMIT.

/writ/efags, I've got a seriously serious issue regarding writing. My brain is filled with countless of ideas which just need to be written down and some people I send the little fragments of my writing admitted that I have real writing potential, but I am rarely in the mood to do so.

Right, I am no Bert Brecht who can turn any current experience into a poem or a Mozard who writes his opporettes while taking a shit. It's really frustrating and it's killing more and less the mood to write.

I tried everything my bias allowed so far, music of all kinds, sitting in front of my desk for 2 hours and focusing on writing, getting high from withering apples and orange skins. The only thing I haven't tried yet was fucking a hooker, but I doubt the muse would come over and say "hi, I am your muse of inspiration, I suck your penis to increase your motivation".

Meh, I still have 3 months until I finished the purgatory called high school, maybe I will get the writing will if I am done with it.

But seriously guys, any hints how to force yourself into further writing?
I promised /co/ to write a fapfic and I want to get it done by the end of the next month. I have the main idea, the dynamics and intropespective shit, yes yes, but how do I get myself to write it down?

Honest opinion question here.

As far as literature goes, which genre of "Post-Apocalypse" settings do you guys think is the most overdone? Specifically, I mean the big archetypes like "Scorched Desert and dirty Skyscraper ruins," the "Nuclear Winter Ice Age," the "Neo-human Dystopian Society..." Hell, even "Man Overtaken by Nature," You get the idea. Post-apocalyptic fiction comes in so many flavors but these are the things I keep seeing in common.

No.3979
Well, I don't think any of them is overdone at all. Pretty rare actually. I've never even heard of a Nuclear Winter Ice Age Post-Apocalypse setting. Then again, I don't really read too much Post-apoc stuff. Are such books common?

With New Moon likely to make yet another metric fuckload of money this weekend we need to find the bright side to the entire Twilight mania. There must be something good that comes from this awful Mormon fantasy that seems to have invaded our culture on every front. That something is the eventual movie version of Breaking Dawn.

Even though New Moon has made a bazillion dollars and even though the third Twilight book, Eclipse, is already filming, Summit has declined to announce the fourth and final Twilight book as a movie. There's a good reason for this: Breaking Dawn is completely fucking insane, and it is probably totally unfilmable. But if they do film it... man, we are in for a treat.

Breaking Dawn opens with Bella Swan, the lacteal heroine of the series, finally getting married to Edward Cullen, the mopey vampire hero. They go off to honeymoon on Isle Esme, a Brazilian island the Cullen clan owns (this is already ridiculous beyond belief. Imagine a vampire going snorkeling; it basically happens in this book), and Edward is afraid to fuck his new bride. The reason: he's super strong and she's just a human - Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex type of situation here. But Bella wears him down and Edward throws it in her - and knocks her the fuck out, leaving her badly bruised.

Let's go over that again: Edward fucks Bella into unconsciousness. This alone should have you running to Fandango to pre-order your tickets, but it only gets better.

Despite being knocked out cold by his sexual style (and having the headboard destroyed), Bella goes back to Edward for seconds. This time he knocks her up. Yes, an undead vampire apparently has enough viable sperm to impregnate a human woman while fucking her off the coast of Rio de Janero. Stephenie Meyer, you fabulous idiot!

The baby in Bella's belly starts growing incredibly fast. And it starts hurting Bella, as each kick it gives has the super strength of a vampire behind it. As it grows, Bella gets sicker, and then the good stuff starts. The baby kicks so hard it breaks Bella's ribs and then severs her spine. Are you imagining Kristen Stewart wearing a fake pregnancy belly and pretending to have been

Always keep in mind that everyone fucks with anthropologists. Everyone.

I once had a teacher who was doing some kind of biological research in the Amazon, and he said he often had conversations with native people about their lives that would end with them saying, "We would never tell an anthropologist this." People know when they're being observed, and people know that some of their customs and actions could be misrepresented or misunderstood by an outsider. Anthropologists are trained to get around this, but there's always someone gaming their research.

So keep your chin up; sex is probably not as "easy-access" as that book makes out.

Is there a website where you can:

- input the books you've read, maybe by month
- have it show you all sorts of cool statistics and charts about your reading habits?

I feel like there must be, and if not, there should be.

There are facebook applications that track books read, but the last time I tried one it was crap. Granted, that was years ago.

There are also some programs that do that; http://www.collectorz.com/book/ is one. That one's actually kind of neat in that if you have access to a certain kind of barcode scanner you can scan the barcodes on the books you own and it adds the book to the database. Typing in the ISBN does the same thing, just slower. Other programs might offer this functionality, but I haven't tried them. I don't know if it has reading statistics, though.

My experience with these kinds of things is that they're neat, but require a lot of attention.

So I want to write a story about detectives, but I'm not american, that's all you need to know.

Now, what do I need to know about good cities for detective stories set in modern times dealing with hitmen, mobsters, and a general feel of Max Payne-isms?

Or could I just do a story, say "Jeannette is a detective in the LAPD" and never really say specifically where she is? I mean, besides things like, by the docks, on the rich part of town, etc?
