Predictions, anyone?

Picture: Avatar
Director: Cameron
Actor: Clooney
Actress: Bullock

Yeah, they are mostly just shots in the dark based on conventional wisdom and the very little conversations I have about this stuff.

No.8449
>>8448

I think Avatar and Cameron should win as well, but I don't think it'll happen. A lot of critics love Hurt Locker and really fixate on the whole female director thing.

No.8450
Avatar will definitely get the special effect and cinematography Oscars.

Best Picture: The Hurt Locker or Up
Supporting Role: Christoph Waltz
Animated Feature: Coraline
Foreign Language: The White Ribbon
Writing: A Serious Man

Just hopes, not predictions. My predictions are Avatar, Avatar, Avatar, Up in the Air, Avatar and maybe a bit of Inglourious Basterds

No.8451
My hopes for the wins:

Picture: Avatar or District 9 or The Hurt Locker or Up (mainly the first two)
Actor: George Clooney
Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz
Actress: Sandra Bullock
Supporting Actress: Vera Farmina or Anna Kendrick
Animated Film: Fantastic Mr. Fox or Up
Art Direction: Sherlock Holmes or Avatar
Cinematography: Avatar
Costume Design: The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus
Directing: Cameron or Tarantino or Reitman
Documentary: Which Way Home
Documentary Short: (Haven't seen any of the nominess)
Film Editing: District 9 or The Hurt Locker
Foreign Language: The White Ribbon
Makeup: Star Trek
Music (Score): I'm honestly rooting for all of these, I thought each were equally spectacular in its own right
Music (Song): Down In New Orleans
Animated Short Film: The Lady And The Reaper
Short Film: (The only ones I saw were The Door and The New Tenants, so I don't feel I can judge properly)
Sound Editing: Avatar
Sound Mixing: Avatar
Visual Effects: Avatar
Writing (Adapted): District 9 or Up In The Air
Writing (Original): Inglourious Basterds or Up

Dresses~

Anne Hathaway always looks so pretty.

No.8458
If Avatar wins for best picture I will not be surprised since the academy as notoriously bad taste.

No.8459
these jokes are awful.

No.8460
• Congrats for Up winning Best Animated Feature, even though that means it's not winning Best Picture.
• The John Hughes tribute was awesome, and Ally Sheedy in "Breakfast Club" is STILL fuckhot.
• Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin should be executed for killing comedy on-stage like they are.

And all his credibility will potentially go out the window with Tron 2, because hollywood is a bag of dicks 89% of the time.

That movie wasn't THAT good.

I'M SO FUCKING ANGRY RIGHT NOW

HELEN MIRREN SHOULD HAVE HAD IT

ANYONE SHOULD HAVE HAD IT BUT HER GOOOODDDDDDDDDDD

Sandra Bullock won a Razzie and an Oscar in the same year!

In the same category!

In a world of peaches Bea, don't ask for applesauce.

Hollywood doesn't function on the same wavelength as anyone else.

No.8474

Was she the first to actually accept her Razzie?

>>8473

Indeed its a different world with them

... Have women been nominated for Best Director before?

No.8476
Suck it, Cameron.

No.8477
OH FUCK!!!! Shit...Best picture don't mean dick now...damn

No.8479
HA HA HA

SUCK IT CAMERON

YOUR EX-WIFE JUST WON BEST DIRECTOR AND HER MOVIE JUST WON BEST FILM

No.8480
AHAHAHA TAKE THAT CAMERON.

Also, no apparently a woman hasn't been nominated before, damn.

You suck hollywood.

No.8481
Wait... Did Tom Hanks just do a drive by presentation for best motion picture? Jesus it really didn't matter.

No.8482
So just about everyone that worked on Avatar got an Oscar, cept James...they really had it out for him.

Man I want to see some Cameron reaction shots

No.8486
What was everyone smoking at the Oscars tonight?

Clooney was fucked up on something, the interpretive dance thing, excluding Farrah Fawcett and BEA ARTHUR from the montage, introducing the horror montage (with no zombies but some not horror movies?) with the kids from Twilight...

Seriously what the fuck.

I like Monique's acceptance speech.

"...it can be about the performance and not the politics."

Operative phrase "can be."

The Oscars are shit. They have been shit for years.

Honestly I didn't enjoy many of the best picture nominees. Avatar was just a tech demo, and the Hurt Locker was pretty boring.
In fact the only ones I really enjoyed a lot were District 9 and Up, but I knew going into it that they didn't stand a chance.

No.8489
>>8488

District 9 should have won something. Anything. It was a really good movie.

Taratino got snubbed again. :(

No.8491
Honestly the pick for Best Director was done just because she was a woman. Not saying she is a bad director, but it was pretty obvious.

No.8494
>>8483

I knew Avatar was going to win only in the effects/photography department. As it should.

I knew D9 was gonna get totally ignored on everything. Which is a shame.

Didn't really expect Inglorious Bastard to win anything.

And I was really hoping "El secreto de sus ojos" would win, just because a bit of national pride, but when it did it took me by surprise (was sure the award was going to go to "The White Ribbon").

Anyone else still really pissy at them cutting the presentation for best picture?

That's...the last thing that gets cut. In any sensible universe. Especially this year.

No.8507
>>8506

They were in a rush to stick it to Cameron no clue why

No.8508
>>8507

I mean Hurt Locker basically made a drunken ass of itself the last few days before the awards and yet it still won. more to this then "it was the better movie"

No.8509
>>8508

I'm still waiting for the fallout of that connection - Hurt Locker producer sends e-mail out to voters urging them to vote for Hurt Locker over "a $500 million movie."

Also, Academy Awards can kiss its youth viewers goodbye forever after this year. This part isn't so much about Avatar as EVERYTHING ELSE THEY DID WRONG.

No.8510
>>8509
I don't see many movies, so I really don't care about this stuff, but it's important to keep in mind: The average age of academy voters is something like 65.

No.8511

Hurt Locker lowest grossing movie to win. They openly mocked Avatar though the whole thing.

No.8512

8512
I'm still pissed off that Hurt Locker got *that* many Oscars, and whereas Inglourious Basterds (especially Tarantino) and District 9 didn't get shit.

>>8511
This also pisses me off. I can understand Avatar not winning Best Picture - in comparison to some of the other entries it's a simplistic storyline, despite its incredible visual aesthetic and obvious love for its own mythos. But to mock the movie the whole ceremony, and give both main awards to Cameron's ex-wife? For-fucking-shame, Academy. You're supposed to be adults about this.

No.8513
>>8512

I'm fully behind him if he tells then they can go screw themselves and has little to no interaction with then for the rest of his life. Just go on to make epic films and give those shits nothing.

About this whole Hurt Locker winning so much, I would like to remind everyone that it is also Women's history month.

No.8517
>>8515

Well, she's the first to win in the category.

I'd also like to remind folks that Cameron's been saying he expects (wants) the awards to go to Hurt Locker/Bigelow since before the Golden Globes.

Why can't they just be happy for each other in the public's eye? Why do they have to have a grudge or something? They're both great film(makers) and being nominated means enough anyways, right?

induring "no"

I think a big issue people have with the Academy Awards is that it isn't a popularity contest.

No.8532
>>8528

but it is, its just what is popular with them and not the viewing public

No.8534
>>8532
No shit, Sherlock.
Excuse me, but the picture is just stupid. Just like when last year everyone complained about the fact that no one knew Slumdog Millionaire before the Oscars, so obviously it didn't deserve the awards but the one film everyone talked about, The Dark Knight, did.
The highest grossing films of 2009 were Avatar, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and Transformers 2.

No.8536
At first I was like "Aw poor James Cameron :(" but then I remembered that if anything he would be wiping away his tears of sadness with hundred dollar bills so I think he'll be okay.

No.8539
I wish Tarentino and District 9 had won SOMETHING but Hurt Locker was pretty great.

Both these images need HATERS GONNA HATE on them, stat.
