Nevermind, imburn works now that I have anydvd
Yo bros. This is my thread. My thread for finding you stuff. Computer stuff. Stuff. Come here if you need help finding builds and stuff FOR builds. Because having one thread is much easier than running around every thread. Always here to help, don't hesitate posting.
>>2031 What's wrong with the case? I didn't like the fact that it came with a stock PSU, but it sounds like we can upgrade that if necessary.
>>2019 I heard the EVGA 460 card burns a lot of energy and gives a lot of heat, though. Still, I'm looking to get a 460 when I finally build my PC sometime this season.
>>2033 Nothing but it's not especially good either. I just... I have a thing about cases. Pretty srs bsns to me. >>2034 It's an Antec Earthwatts so I think it'll be fine. About the EVGA 460s, the temps aren't actually that bad. Around 66 Celsius load and 34 idle in the reviews I've seen, all air cooled as far as I remember. Power consumption? ~295W load, ~182W idle. Around the same as a 5830. I didn't look at any reviews specifically using the model Dent has but between the 1GB External Exhaust Superclocked and 768MB Superclocked, those figures look pretty par for course.
Yeah an Itouch because I don't want to pay $30 extra on my cell phone bill but still could use a portable PC proxy. So would you guys recommend it and any good aps, do I need to use the bloated and derisive Itunes to properly run the thing. I'm curious about your opinions plus4, and thank you in advance.
Netflix does instant streaming on the iPhone and iPod Touch now (and the app itself is free.) Fuck Yeah. Also, Ninjump, Words with Friends (basically a free scrabble app), and Solitaire are all awesome and free.
>New iPod Touch has a camera Shucks. All I had to do was wait about five months, too.
>>2028 My iTouch just broke. I'm definitely getting a new one. Preferably the $300 model.
I've recently purchased a Jtag'd Xbox 360 and I was wondering if it was possible to play anime from the harddrive and if so how?
>>2012 This. Actually, I just got my hands on a friend's old PS3 -- the disc drive no longer works but everything else functions fine. Thoughts on what to do with it? If I can repair the drive I'd like to give it back to her so she doesn't have to spend money on a new PS3. Otherwise I'd love to turn it into something fun and usable instead of driving it out to the dump.
>>2018 Get one of those newfangled Jigsticks and use it to pirate games.
>>2016 how so?
My latest obsession the Triumph Thruxton. Clip-ons were stock until the 2008 model IIRC. At any rate, it should be fitted with clip-ons. Christ that is some fast, retro-sexy motorcycle. Post some motorcycles, /tek/.
Oh my lord. <3 I admittedly know very little about motorcycles other than they are wonderful and Harleys make exactly the kind of throttling rumble that make my stomach tingle with excitement. Not as often with other brands, but Triumphs and most things Kawasaki made in the last five years are gorgeous to look at.
Y'all Small time!
>made in the last five years Vintage Bike. Best Bike. Note this 1959 T-100. Unf. Actually this whole website http://www.vintagebike.co.uk/Bike%20Directories/Triumph%20Bikes/Triumph%20Index.htm

ok /tek/ you are now the shooter. how do you get away with it. I'll assume that the m-16 is bullshit so let's assume you have an AR-15 and as much ammo as you can carry in loaded magazines.
>>1997 Let all the hostages go and let them know they were all brave and behaved respectably. Hold hands up and walk out of bus. Go to dancing prison and get out 4 years later because it's the fucking Philippines seriously what were they thinking you can buy your way out of anything why go out like that no one will remember it in a year like all the other ridiculous failmafia bullshit they try Pacquiao is going to beat the shit out of everyone
...who are all you people?
Having a problem with your computer? Post here, and see if the wisdom of /tek/ can help you.
>>1933 >>1749 here, I can't even get the discs to read
>>1993 Well you're much better off downloading the iso and burning a new copy then.
>>2015 Wilco, much obliged.
Are there any alarm clocks that play whatever mp3 you want or something? Because my old one broke, and I'd like to use this for my new one.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38475126 >CORNING, N.Y. — An ultra-strong glass that has been looking for a purpose since its invention in 1962 is poised to become a multibillion-dollar bonanza for Corning Inc. >The 159-year-old glass pioneer is ramping up production of what it calls Gorilla glass, expecting it to be the hot new face of touch-screen tablets and high-end TVs. >Gorilla showed early promise in the '60s, but failed to find a commercial use, so it's been biding its time in a hilltop research lab for almost a half-century. It picked up its first customer in 2008 and has quickly become a $170 million-a-year business as a protective layer over the screens of 40 million-plus cell phones and other mobile devices. >Now, the latest trend in TVs could catapult it to a billion-dollar business: Frameless flat-screens that could be mistaken for chic glass artwork on a living-room wall. >Because Gorilla is very hard to break, dent or scratch, Corning is betting it will be the glass of choice as TV-set manufacturers dispense with protective rims or bezels for their sets, in search of an elegant look. >Gorilla is two to three times stronger than chemically strengthened versions of ordinary soda-lime glass, even when just half as thick, company scientists say. Its strength also means Gorilla can be thinner than a dime, saving on weight and shipping costs. >Corning is in talks with Asian manufacturers to bring Gorilla to the TV market in early 2011 and expects to land its first deal this fall. With production going full-tilt in Harrodsburg, Ky., it is converting part of a second factory in Shizuoka, Japan, to fill a potential burst of orders by year-end. Message too long. >>1798 'White Plastic' is not the entierity of Apple's strategy.
>>1792 The tech is expensive enough as is. Also, DS touchscreens are plastic, and designed to give a bit when you touch them.
The fools! The hubris! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/science-news/7964109/Scientists-create-dry-water.html Scientists have created dry water. Yes, it's not technically true. Shut up, Buzz Killington.
Hey /tek/ I'm looking for a headset. My three main purposes for it is Console/PC online experience, Skype, and for my cell. I wanna go with a small, slick, wireless blue tooth one, at a fair price (say, no more than ~50 bucks) Is there anything I should know? As far as cells go, I can use another company's bt earphones no problem, right? What should I get /tek/?
Cells can take another BT headset easily because Bluetooth is bluetooth, doesn't change for each manufacturer. Big, loud, and blocks out outside noise. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826355002 But wait, you want it with a console? Bluetooth that also can work on console? Hmm Not sure, but I will post more Bluetooth. I had a hard drive recently die after a long time of suffering from "Delayed Write Failed" NOW all of a sudden my portable drive got one too and it wiped my entire PortableApps folder Am I cursed? Unlucky? Stupid? Pic possibly related?
>>1971 Actualy yeah But the first drive was on a laptop so that theory is void And the portable drive has never been plugged in during an outage.
>>1972 did you try plugging it into different ports? different computers?
>>1972 >>1973 Constantly plugging computers into different ports with different voltages or whatevz can cause computers to eventually frizz out. Try getting another drive and see what happens, I guess. Another deal is you might have a... Oh shit what is that called. A circuit giving electricity to places it is not supposed to. I had one, my coaxial cables had electricity flowing through them a while back because of one. Man I am not being of much help, huh.
I got a new job on the military base as basically a data entry peon. My boss told me that we are all forbidden from using flash drives on the computers because the government has discovered that some foreign-made thumb drives have some kinda software on it that sucks data from the computer it's plugged into, and then streams it over the internet if you're connected. However, portable hard drives with spinning discs are safe to use. Anybody heard of this before? I guess I believe it, but I want to learn more about this.
That's a load of BS. All they want is to stop people from introducing malware into their network.
>>1934 Well that's a pretty fair reason, I'd say.
>>1969 I'm fairly certain he's defending them doing something for that purpose, though against whose claim I have no idea.
What is the BEST projector on the market, where it's relatively small and I can connect it to a computer or whatever to upload digital files to play?
>>1904 True. Also thanks for clearing this up. UM. BLAHBLAH There isn't really much better than the ones I posted for price and just how good it is. Man I suck at typing words when I am tired.
>>1901 How bout the cheapest?
>>1946 Cheapest, but at least good, you get this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009223
To put it simple, what is the best disc holding case I can buy that also doesn't have any annoying things on it like the "Playstation 3" on this case? Of course one that'd allow me to put in my own sleeve would be best choice. I figured since I'm on the road and can just order them(or picking them up from somewhere is fine too) so they'll be there when I get home will be the best idea. Sorry I suck at something so simple.
You could just get regular slim DVD cases
Medical technology and discoveries? I apologize if what I'm doing would be considered spamming. http://www.physorg.com/news200046187.html >Pancreatic cancers use fructose, common in the Western diet, to fuel their growth >Pancreatic cancers use the sugar fructose, very common in the Western diet, to activate a key cellular pathway that drives cell division, helping the cancer to grow more quickly, a study by researchers at UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center has found. >Although it's widely known that cancers use glucose, a simple sugar, to fuel their growth, this is the first time a link has been shown between fructose and cancer proliferation, said Dr. Anthony Heaney, an associate professor of medicine and neurosurgery, a Jonsson Cancer Center researcher and senior author of the study. >"The bottom line is the modern diet contains a lot of refined sugar including fructose and it's a hidden danger implicated in a lot of modern diseases, such as obesity, diabetes and fatty liver," said Heaney, who also serves as director of the Pituitary Tumor and Neuroendocrine Program at UCLA. "In this study, we show that cancers can use fructose just as readily as glucose to fuel their growth." >The study appeared in the Aug. 1 issue of the peer-reviewed journal Cancer Research. >The source of fructose in the Western diet is high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), a corn-based sweetener that has been on the market since about 1970. HFCS accounts for more than 40 percent of the caloric sweeteners added to foods and beverages, and it is the sole sweetener used in American soft drinks. >Between 1970 and 1990, the consumption of HFCS in the U.S. has increased over 1,000 percent, according to an article in the April 2004 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Food companies use HFCS - a mixture of fructose and glucose - because it's inexpensive, easy to transport and keeps foods moist. And because it is so sweet Message too long. >>1938 He's saying that things not getting much worse in the last 10 years means it won't get much worse in the next 10. Which isn't flawless logic itself, but not what he meant.
>>1938>>1939 I'm not saying antibiotic resistant bacteria aren't a threat. I'm saying the article is full of gross fear-mongering aimed at a public not very informed about the issue.
I know personally at least three people who've gotten MRSA, the antibiotic-resistant staph infection, and either died (two of them), or been horribly fucked up by it, so I know how serious the threat of resistant bacteria is. But I'm optimistic. http://www.physorg.com/news200144888.html http://www.physorg.com/news182450282.html http://www.physorg.com/news189963378.html http://www.physorg.com/news194186985.html They've developed paints that contain MRSA-inhibiting enzymes, and nano-surfaces based on shark skin which, by their structure, inhibit the growth of bacteria by making it harder for them to grow in mats. And, as ever, there's always nature to look to for inspiration. Vultures and other scavengers have immune systems made of steel, and we're just barely getting an inkling on home our immune system works.
