My dad listens to almost nothing but The Smiths and Morrissey, so every time he visits I invariably have "Hang the DJ' stuck on repeat in my head.

Please. PLEASE. Help me find some other dark humored bands? New-waveishness is a plus.

ITT, let's talk about Musicians we love that no one else seems to know about

Well, actually, many of you probably have heard Mark Mulcahy (on the left) and just don't realize it (his old band did a lot of the music on Pete and Pete), but that's beside the point.

Some of my favorite songs of his:

(sorry for the shitty live quality on some, but his stuff's a little hard to come by)

Trout Fishing in America

They're mostly known for their really witty and entertaining childrens' albums, but they've also made a couple adult albums that are really, really good (if you like folk-ish stuff).

I looked on youtube, but couldn't find anything good, so here's a video from a concert and an Eleanor Rigby cover.

Where do you guys go to keep updated on international music?

American music is getting tired and disgustingly unoriginal these days and I'm trying to diversify my library. I search national record sales websites for various countries (India, Ukraine, Korea, etc) and I'm highly disappointed to see that the tops of their charts are...our music.

tl;dr - I can has international music?

Young Stalin moderately related.

Damn near everything I listen to these days is either Italian/"Italo *(usually disco)," from the 80s or both.

The australian hip hop industry is growing at a huge rate over here with bands like The Hilltop Hoods, The Herd, Urthboy and Drapht.

There's also a few good artists coming out of Europe at the moment like Soko from France and Ida Maria from Norway. I haven't seen juno, but I think Ida Maria's song 'I like you so much better when you're naked' might have featured on the soundtrack.

Soko-

I will never love you more: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfDvxCPjJBQ

Ida Maria-
