The Metal thread.Ask me anything about metal, Doom metal, and heavy-ass rock'n'roll.
For starters, stop listening to whatever you're shoving into your ears and listen to this:http://www.mediafire.com/?jrt3im520amThe band's name is Riff Cannon. RIFF. CANNON. There shouldn't be anything else I need to say, but I'll say this: They have the dirty, driving force of Fireball Ministry with moments of post-metal (Pelican) beauty. I just found this today and I'm already in love with it.

whats the best motorhead album? am i missing out on anything by just having the greatest hits?
>>16003You're missing nothing, and everything. (Especially if your greatest hits is No Remorse, and you're missing the latter half of their career.)There isn't one Motorhead album that's their best. Kinda frustrating, yeah, but you can't bring down a band like Motorhead to one album. At the least, you should have bits and pieces from each era. (Or, you could be like me and have every album. Totally acceptable.)I'll break it down like this: If you like classic rock/punk, get the first three albums: Overkill, Bomber, and Ace of Spades. If you want a heavier, modern sound, get anything from between Sacrifice and Motorizer. The 80's and early 90's were a mixed bag; not everyone is gonna find something noteworthy on Rock and Roll, but everyone should know the song "Orgasmatron." 1916 is a great record - it's the only one I have signed by Lemmy - while you'd be fine having only the title track to March Or Die.I could say they should be an all-or-nothing case, but not everyone is me. It's up to you, and what Motorhead means to you.
>>16007I have some bandwith to spare so im going all in
>>16009Good man.
How come it seems like there is no more good new American metal bands? Ever since I started listening to bands like Ensiferum, Amon Amarth, Mayhem, Enslaved, and Electric Wizard it seems like American metal cannot stand up like these do.
>>16044Only way I can/could explain it is like this: those bands you listed are all from Europe. Each one from a distinct place in Europe, or part of a sub-genre that started in a distinct place in Europe: 'Wizard from England (Doom Metal), and the rest are from some part of Scandinavia (Black, Folk, and melodic Death). Within those communities, these bands and others like them refine their "indigenous" sub-genre to something pretty good.Occurrences such as this only come in waves in America, where metal doesn't have half the footing and grassroots determination as Europe does. The biggest example America has ever had of having an indigenous sub-genre and metal community was the Thrash metal era of the 80's. The second biggest one being the thrash-influenced Death scene with bands like Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse. Only now has a new wave of American metal - a sludge/groove revival, spearheaded by the likes of Mastodon - really started to become the new big thing.tl;dr it's all a matter of time and place. Some genres and styles are more prominent in Europe, others elsewhere. It's surprising (and interesting) how geographical Metal can be.I admit to feeling like I'm talking out of my ass a bit on this one, but there is some truth in this.
>>15998Holy fucking shit this is awesome. No shiny-compressed oversustained hairmetal shred! Dirty, nasty blues metal riffage! Warbly vocals real low in the mix! Echo chamber goodness verging on ambient! My god! I'm going to the record store to find this right now! What other bands in this vein would you recommend, Doom?
>>16085Off the top of my head: Baroness and Pelican. Those should be good starts. From them you can branch off anything from Mastodon and Boris to Electric Wizard and High On Fire.
>>16085Also they're really obscure/unknown, so I doubt you can find them at a record store. Just order it off their site, it's only $10.http://riffcannon.moonfruit.com/#/store/4536778771
>>15998This is pretty cool, like Boris and QOTSA had a child
>>16087>>16088Thanks mang. I've heard good things about Boris before, so I guess I'll start there.
Know any awesome amazing metal bands that have blues riffs and solo's that have soul in them instead of just being widdly widdly widdly widdly widdly...
>>16130This is some of my favorite stuff, and yet I feel like I'm drawing a blank. Some off the top of my head: Orange Goblin, Kyuss, Corrosion of Conformity, Down, Alabama Thunderpussy, Spiritual Beggars, Holy Mountain by Sleep, Fireball Ministry, and The Atomic Bitchwax. That should get you going. On the lighter side, you should also check out bands like Clutch and Nebula.
>>16131If I knew who you were I would buy you a nice cold drink for those bands you suggested.
Fuck yes, new Grand Magus album.http://www.mediafire.com/?zgiwm52wglmThis is how you do straight up heavy metal.
>>16523fuck yes grand magus this better be as good as the other stuff
HEY FAG HERE'S A GOOD QUESTION:WHEN THE FUCK IS WINTERSUN'S OTHER ALBUM COMING, HUH?BET YOU DON'T HAVE AN ANSWER.>:(Also, Sabbat has the best lyricist in metal, screw Maiden.
>>16541Don't know, don't really care.Sabbat is pretty great, but I'm more of a (Walkyier-era) Skyclad guy.
Van Canto up in this motherfucker!
FINALLY hearing this live was easily the highlight of Exodus' set last Friday. Still one of the best thrash songs ever.
>>16561Lucky bastard. I keep having shit to do when they come to Raleigh. One of my favorite bands ever.
Iron Maiden, as always, was awesome last night. The best part was when they did "Blood Brothers," which Bruce dedicated to Dio, and Dio, in the form of a bat, flew around the amphitheater. True story. Here's the new song they played. I (can) dig it.
My golden rule: "Needs more Finnish weirdos"
>>16900Fuck yeah, Hevisaurus.
What do you think is the greatest Metal Album of all time?
The opening riffs in this Tekken 6 track, they seem very familiar. Is it from an existing r&r/metal track that you may have heard before? It's been racking my brain ever since I first heard it.
>>16944Who do I look like, VH1?>>17001I'm pretty sure it's not any particular riff from a particular song, but it's definitely supposed to sound like one. It's something you'd hear from a more aggressive power metal band - video related - or "black'n'roll" (heavy rock/metal with black metal overtones, i.e. Satyricon and Kvelertak).
>>17001That actually kind of reminds me of the main riff from 'Holiday in Cambodia.'
>>17003>>Who do I look like, VH1?In terms of strictly personal preference.
>>17019I honestly can't think of one album. Get back to me.In other news: FUCK YES NEW BLIND GUARDIAN I AM SO HAPPY
Bumping with DeceasedAwesome show last night. King Fowley is a god-tier frontman.
I've been revisiting Type O Negative pretty hard lately.
I always like me some Hammerfall
In one week: High On Fire and Kylesa.Fuck yea.>>19460HammerFall is for moonstars.
