Figure this might work better than just making dozens of new threads....

So, yeah, apparently this (Pixar Canada) is happening! It'll be handling various animation projects Pixar doesn't have the time or manpower to, but that they want to maintain the same level of quality on. Things like amusement park attractions and spin-off shorts.

Space Mountain's reopened at Disney World. Queue and postshow have been updated some, moreso the queue what with it having some vidya games added towards the midway point of the line.
Queue elements really emphasize a Space Airport storyline rather then the delivery company theme it had since Fed-Ex was sponsoring back in the 90s.
Baggage claim towards the start of that post show has a nifty little Horizons shout out on some luggage stickers.

From the reports I've been getting, ride's become even darker and they've added some new digital projection effects.
They didn't mess with the track too much beyond replacing some sections. Disney World management doesn't like it when something's out of commission too long so we'd never get as extensive an overhaul as Disneyland got a few years back.

"Snow Queen" has officially been confirmed by producer Peter Del Vecho. It looks like Ron Clements and John Musker will NOT be directing, as a new project for them has been confirmed.

That means the current Walt Disney Animation Studios roster is as follows:

"The Princess and the Frog" (2D)(2009)(Musical)
"Rapunzel"(3D)(2010)(Musical, supposedly done in a 60's rock fashion)
"Winnie the Pooh" (2D)(2011)
"King of the Elves"(3D)(2012)

So with the Captain EO return at Disneyland supposedly in mid-January, apparently it's being considered for being put back at Epcot as well.

Also, the Paradise Pier lagoon is all filled up again after the installation of the World of Color stuff. Just a few more tweaks on the fountain system and they'll start programming and testing stuff. The viewing area construction should be finished by February, meaning the end of the construction wall hallway in the pic of the site here.

Also, Tokyo Disney Sea is considering putting in their own version of Fantasmic, though considering how that park is set up, would definitely be radically different from the US versions

Partial casting call for Frankenweenie is up, contains plot spoilers, possible racism.

[EDGAR] A Caucasian Male 8-11 years old. Edgar is a needy little kid who wants desperately to be accepted by the cool kids in his class. Naturally a little nerdy, he gravitates to Victor and basically annoys him until he agrees to let him be his lab partner. He is more than a little gullible and is easily tricked into giving away Victor’s precious secret and unwittingly starting the whole mess with the other monsters.

[TOSHIAKI] A Japanese Male 8-11 years old. Toshiaki is the natural leader of the cool kids in Victor’s class. He is a good athlete, and an avid little league baseball player but Toshiaki has a mischievous side. He is the one that ultimately manipulates E into giving up the secret of Sparky and it is his idea to turn the other animals into monsters. He is Japanese and his monster creation is a little Godzilla lizard.

[BOB] A Caucasian Male 8-11 years old. Bob is the dumb, jockey kid. He has more brawn than brains. He follows Toshiaki and Nassor around even when it means that he has to be the one to test the home made jet pack that Toshiaki has created.

[NASSOR] A Middle-Eastern Male 8-11 years old. Nassor is the star of the little league team and just goes along with Toshiak’s plan. He is a bit more serious than the others but still doesn’t see the impending chaos when he chooses to bring his hamster mummy back to life.

[WEIRD GIRL] A Caucasian Female 8-11 years old. She has a very dark and ominous take on even the most mundane occurrences and jumps at the chance to bring some dead animals back to life.

[ELSA] A Caucasian Female 8-11 years old. Elsa is a sweet girl who likes to follow the rules and not cause too much trouble. A bit of a “goody two shoes,” she is not afraid to speak up and even corrects the teacher when he makes a mistake. She is excited about the festivities planned for the town’s Dutch Day parade and even has a solo dance number in the show.

Aw man.
And I have a bad feeling about that Maleficent movie.

No.40415
>>40406

The thing about Maleficent is that her whole shtick is that she's THE epic badguy.

She's not some sympathetic character you need to sympathize with. She is a straight up spiteful, hateful bitch who killed an innocent girl for something that she had nothing to do with. She turned into a dragon and said "NOW YOU FACE ME AND ALL THE POWERS OF HELL!" all to imprison a man for years and have him turn into a crotchety old man for him to return to his still young and still sleeping bride.

Trying to "put a new twist" on that is just bad no matter how you slice it.

No.40421
>>40415
Well, the pathetically optimistic part of me hopes that it won't be some mushy backstory that ruins the character, like what happened to Vader. I hope they keep this just a nice story of Maleficent being the ultimate evil badass.

However, as my realistic side points out, that would be the awesome thing to do, but movie people pretty much never do what would be truly awesome.

The problem with that though was if they did that, they'd probably delay that Imagination redo even more. And I'd rather take a return of Dreamfinder over the Captain returning to Epcot.

Here's a peak of what could be Pixar's first fully traditionally animated short.
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=64181
>When Day, a sunny fellow, encounters Night, a stranger of distinctly darker moods, sparks fly! Day and Night are frightened and suspicious of each other at first, and quickly get off on the wrong foot. But as they discover each other's unique qualities--and come to realize that each of them offers a different window onto the same world--the friendship helps both to gain a new perspective.

Carousel at Disney World is getting a name change, presumably as part of the Fantasyland overhaul. And they bothered to do a backstory for it too.

>Following their fairy-tale romance and happily-ever-after wedding, Cinderella and Prince Charming took up residence in Cinderella’s Castle. With peace throughout the kingdom, Prince Charming had time to practice for jousting tournaments. In the countryside near the castle, he built a training device of carved horses, on which he could practice the art of ring-spearing, a tournament event in which a knight rides his horse full speed, lance in hand, toward a small ring hanging from a tree limb, with the object of spearing the ring. This event was known by various names throughout the lands, but generally came to be called “carrousel.”
>The carrousel device drew the attention of the villagers, who wanted to take a turn on this amazing spinning contraption. So Prince Charming had a second carrousel constructed closer to the Castle, where everyone could take a spin on this wondrous invention. Instead of a working knight’s training device, however, this new carrousel is more befitting its regal location in the Castle Courtyard – its rustic training horses replaced with ornately decorated prancing steeds adorned with golden helmets and shields, flower garlands, feathers and other festoons. Prince Charming invites one and all to test their horsemanship skills and to enjoy their own happy ending.

Among the many special features will be an interactive edition of the fabled Shultheis Notebook, a priceless animators "bible" compiled over the career of one of Fantasia's key creators, and the first-ever home video release of Destino, Walt Disney's collaboration with Salvador Dali. Destino is backed by its own 70-minute documentary.

Also, if Figment is in it, you'd probably explode in nerdgasms.

No.84069

No.84071
  >>84064
Oh of course, it's taken directly from kingdom hearts and not say making blatant allusions to Fantasia. Because we all know that children regularly watch either version of The Sorcerer's Apprentice and know his name well outside of a single game sequel. They needed an anagram for Walt and he was the perfect choice. He's a damn angry wizard, what do you want him to sound like? Curly Howard?

No.84074
>>84071
That and Yen Sid has a few mannerisms based on Walt's, which is why they gave him the backwards name. Like that eyebrow raise after he bails Mickey out is something Walt would do when he was mad at people.

And spelling Walt's name backwards was a tactic used a few other times, including when they were buying up property for Disney World, with one of the fake company names being Retlaw Enterprises.

No.84086
>>84074
Not to mention giving him small physical characteristics like the same nose. I reiterate that he was the perfect choice to use in a game about forgotten and abandoned characters as being someone who starred in what many consider to be Disney's Magnum Opus, he's ironically one of the most vague or unremembered characters of all. This will have little similarity with KH mostly because that game for whatever reason is still actively used by the corporation.

Besides Phantom Inkblot is a lot more menacing in this than any half baked JRPG philosophy, he’s an all consuming amorphous blob of ink. What else would be an adversary to a world of paint?

No.84089

No.84123

"Heart" and simplistic American values/humanity have always been a major plot point of Disney films though. That's part of the reason why it shows up in Kingdom Hearts at all besides being increasingly twisted in bland final fantasy tropes and burned in the Eisner dash for sequel money. KH didn't invent Disney Morality; it's just the worst offender and incarnation of it in recent memory. Trust me, if this fails it will be from Warren's faults.

No.84126

But the way they're using heart is the exact same in the sense of being key in the physical make-up of a complete being in their respective cosmologies as opposed to "some hogwash about the human spirit"

No.84133
>>84126
How do you mean? From what I know of the game it isn't battling against a vague interpretation of Jungian evil and not following some undisclosed set of rules on how to combat it. There is a clear antagonist and Mickey is in a world filled mostly with anguish of not only being discarded but trapped in a false paradise. They have a right to being upset or mistrustful of Mickey and depending on his choices they can learn to forgive and show him some empathy IE "get a heart". It’s a redemption story that succeeds or fails depending on the player.

Nintendo Power's got an Epic Mickey article and we got more info on the Blot. Sounds kinda Earthbound-y too.

"The tragedy of the Blot... I learned a really important thing from John Lasseter. He told me that when Toy Story really came to life... the key question they had to ask was, 'What does a toy want?' Well, toys want to be played with. And that was the foundation for everything in the movie. So he looked at me and said, 'What does a cartoon want?' ... what we came up with is a cartoon character wants four things: to be drawn, to be animated and brought to life, to be projected and seen by an audience, and, finally, to be loved... The Blot [in our game] had none of them. He's a mistake. And he's aware enough to know that. So that's what makes him a monster.
"What he can do is erase things. He has all of the same abilities Mickey has. But he can also sort of suck the life out of cartoons. He can absorb the paint and leave an inert shell. And when he absorbs the paint from a cartoon character, he kind of gains some dim knowledge of their desires. So he comes to want what they wanted. He wants to be a cartoon character. That's his motivation. And the Mad Doctor exploits that. He says, 'I can help you get out of here and get what you want. I can send you out of Wasteland and you'll become the cartoon star that you want to be.' Maybe it's a lie, maybe it's not. So that's their relationship; the Mad Doctor is sort of tempting the Blot. You've got the brains and the brawn. And I hope the Blot gives kids nightmares. I really do."

It doesn't look like Digicomics has been updated in a while.
I wonder if they gave up on that.
Perhaps I should buy a few stories.

Rest of the Epic Mickey intro's up.

Also, I'm pretty sure Digicomics will be updated again eventually. It is how they're going to be distributing those Tales of the Wasteland comics.

It gives me time to work and play 2 Worlds 2. Mickey will definitely make bank in America, let them focus on baiting some Euros with a few less days. November 30th is better than anywhere in December.

>Nothing new from that press conference outside the latest marketing theme, the primary gimmick of which basically seems to be a repeat of the 50th Anniversary's Guest Photomosaic gimmick, though now, projections on the castle of guest submitted pictures.

Should have expected this. Bombshell announcements like the Paris 3rd gate or the altered Fantasyland expansion plans are more of a D23 or Shareholder meeting thing.

Mickey's animations are slightly different!

No.95268
>>95229
Yeah, I think they applied what they learned to make some of the animations seem more natural.

No.95276

I doubt I would have noticed or cared when I watched this as a kid, but it's kind of strange seeing the 40's characters designs used for old timey animation gags.
