Figure this might work better than just making dozens of new threads....
So, yeah, apparently this (Pixar Canada) is happening! It'll be handling various animation projects Pixar doesn't have the time or manpower to, but that they want to maintain the same level of quality on. Things like amusement park attractions and spin-off shorts.
When did this happen?
Fairly recently, apparently. I'm not even sure the building's been built yet.
and pixar beings its next stage in world domination
I, for one, welcome our new animating overlords.
I'd like to remind them that, as a beloved internet personality, I'd be helpful in rounding up people to work in their underground CGI nugget mines.
Space Mountain's reopened at Disney World. Queue and postshow have been updated some, moreso the queue what with it having some vidya games added towards the midway point of the line.
Queue elements really emphasize a Space Airport storyline rather then the delivery company theme it had since Fed-Ex was sponsoring back in the 90s.
Baggage claim towards the start of that post show has a nifty little Horizons shout out on some luggage stickers.
Sounds cool. Anyone been on it?
From the reports I've been getting, ride's become even darker and they've added some new digital projection effects.
They didn't mess with the track too much beyond replacing some sections. Disney World management doesn't like it when something's out of commission too long so we'd never get as extensive an overhaul as Disneyland got a few years back.
not when the head guy in charge of the park has a distaste for them anyway
Jay Rasulo's not in charge of the parks anymore. He switched places with Disney's CFO, though it remains to be seen what sorta guy the new Parks head is.
Either way, I am dissapoint at Iger.
Thomas O. Staggs
hmmmm looking over his stuff it looks like if he can be convinced that it will make money and is a solid investment then he will go for it.
"Princess and the Frog" soundtrack out now.
That's very good news for my animation student friends, sounds like they'll have some better employment prospects after graduation.
Also good news for me on the off chance I can use my design education to weasel my way into the animation industry
God, if only this was fully animated...
Fuller detail on that Disney World Space Mountain makeover
"Snow Queen" has officially been confirmed by producer Peter Del Vecho. It looks like Ron Clements and John Musker will NOT be directing, as a new project for them has been confirmed.
That means the current Walt Disney Animation Studios roster is as follows:
"The Princess and the Frog" (2D)(2009)(Musical)
"Rapunzel"(3D)(2010)(Musical, supposedly done in a 60's rock fashion)
"Winnie the Pooh" (2D)(2011)
"King of the Elves"(3D)(2012)
"The Snow Queen"(2D)(2013?)
No set release date:
Joe Jump (CG)
Untitled Ron Clements and John Musker project (2D)
Another Pooh movie? Fuck. I hate Disney for creating that shitty boring as hell franchise.
They're trying to make it more like the original Honey Tree and Rather Blustery day apparently.
So with the Captain EO return at Disneyland supposedly in mid-January, apparently it's being considered for being put back at Epcot as well.
Also, the Paradise Pier lagoon is all filled up again after the installation of the World of Color stuff. Just a few more tweaks on the fountain system and they'll start programming and testing stuff. The viewing area construction should be finished by February, meaning the end of the construction wall hallway in the pic of the site here.
Also, Tokyo Disney Sea is considering putting in their own version of Fantasmic, though considering how that park is set up, would definitely be radically different from the US versions
The World of Color show platform here
MiceChat's weekly updates have been a fine way to keep posted on it.
Also forgot, Aladdin the Musical is ending this summer, to be replaced with a expanded version of the Toy Story Musical on the Disney Cruise Ship now.
Aww dang, I love the Aladdin musical... but it has been there for a long time, I suppose. Maybe it will be relocated elsewhere.
Word is Chris Buck ("Tarzan", "Surf's Up") is going to direct "Snow Queen".
Frankly, I'd prefer Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale.
Probably not. Disney World doesn't have theaters big enough to accomodate the Flying Carpet scene.
Prep and Landing's been good so far.
Goodnight sweet prince
Forgot an appropriate mourning picture
He was a great man. Standing up for the dream when everyone else was ready to leave it.
Partial casting call for Frankenweenie is up, contains plot spoilers, possible racism.
[EDGAR] A Caucasian Male 8-11 years old. Edgar is a needy little kid who wants desperately to be accepted by the cool kids in his class. Naturally a little nerdy, he gravitates to Victor and basically annoys him until he agrees to let him be his lab partner. He is more than a little gullible and is easily tricked into giving away Victor’s precious secret and unwittingly starting the whole mess with the other monsters.
[TOSHIAKI] A Japanese Male 8-11 years old. Toshiaki is the natural leader of the cool kids in Victor’s class. He is a good athlete, and an avid little league baseball player but Toshiaki has a mischievous side. He is the one that ultimately manipulates E into giving up the secret of Sparky and it is his idea to turn the other animals into monsters. He is Japanese and his monster creation is a little Godzilla lizard.
[BOB] A Caucasian Male 8-11 years old. Bob is the dumb, jockey kid. He has more brawn than brains. He follows Toshiaki and Nassor around even when it means that he has to be the one to test the home made jet pack that Toshiaki has created.
[NASSOR] A Middle-Eastern Male 8-11 years old. Nassor is the star of the little league team and just goes along with Toshiak’s plan. He is a bit more serious than the others but still doesn’t see the impending chaos when he chooses to bring his hamster mummy back to life.
[WEIRD GIRL] A Caucasian Female 8-11 years old. She has a very dark and ominous take on even the most mundane occurrences and jumps at the chance to bring some dead animals back to life.
[ELSA] A Caucasian Female 8-11 years old. Elsa is a sweet girl who likes to follow the rules and not cause too much trouble. A bit of a “goody two shoes,” she is not afraid to speak up and even corrects the teacher when he makes a mistake. She is excited about the festivities planned for the town’s Dutch Day parade and even has a solo dance number in the show.
I fucking love Pogo so much.
I'm very pleased!
Pic from Rapunzel scanned from some French movie article. I'm liking the look.
And its Pixar endorsed
Not so much news as much as something cool regular /co/'s been posting the past couple days. Pooh's such a dick in this comic strip.
"King of the Elves" is officially cancelled.
Here's some concept art!
Oh, and Tim Burton is doing a live-action prequel to Sleeping Beauty called Maleficent.
Source? I've heard the project had stalled out, but hadn't heard it was officially axed.
Not sure if want...
Tim Burton, Maleficent - Good.
Disney sequel/prequel, live action - Possibly very bad.
Again though, source? Google reveals a great deal of rampant speculation but nothing concrete.
And I have a bad feeling about that Maleficent movie.
The thing about Maleficent is that her whole shtick is that she's THE epic badguy.
She's not some sympathetic character you need to sympathize with. She is a straight up spiteful, hateful bitch who killed an innocent girl for something that she had nothing to do with. She turned into a dragon and said "NOW YOU FACE ME AND ALL THE POWERS OF HELL!" all to imprison a man for years and have him turn into a crotchety old man for him to return to his still young and still sleeping bride.
Trying to "put a new twist" on that is just bad no matter how you slice it.
Well, the pathetically optimistic part of me hopes that it won't be some mushy backstory that ruins the character, like what happened to Vader. I hope they keep this just a nice story of Maleficent being the ultimate evil badass.
However, as my realistic side points out, that would be the awesome thing to do, but movie people pretty much never do what would be truly awesome.
Admittedly, I jumped the gun on that one. It looks like it's still just a rumor. Frankly, I hope it stays that way: sure-fire way to screw up Maleficent is to give her some Freudian excuse.
BONUS: RAIN-DAY FUN! Post this picture on regular /co/ and see how many posts it takes for the thread to derail into rampant perversion! :D
You know what?
These KotE concept pieces really aren't doing much for me.
Model of that Fantasyland expansion in the works at WDW.
Especially Dumbo. Looks a lot more like the original Dumbo setup then the newer one they installed in the mid-90s.
Wish they'd use this as an excuse to get rid of the Medieval Festival theming of the current "Castle Courtyard" area of Fantasyland, though it looks like Pooh will at least get an overhauled entrance.
Think they are making room for some Toy Story themed stuff? could fit it into the entrance area to frontierland at least the Woody Stuff
Never noticed but Jessie is a bit chesty for a stuffed doll from the olden times
I mean I've seen some old stuffed dolls but usually they diddn't denote curves
Toy Story's pretty well covered at Disney World already. They got Buzz Lightyear in Magic Kingdom already, plus Toy Story Mania at the Studios.
And Frontierland isn't directly accessible from Fantasyland/the hub at Magic Kingdom, gotta go through Liberty Square. Disneyland on the other hand does have that Big Thunder Ranch area being considered for expansion though.
Guess they are looking back at some of Walts early ideas
great site for Disney Videos
Oh I've known about Martin Smith's works for maybe five years now, via the Mousebits torrents. His stuff is amazing.
New Space Mountain and Tower of Terror videos are apparently in the works.
Huh. So Velveteen Rabbit was apparently in development at Disney until Eisner ravaged the animation department those many years ago.
I don't know if I would have been able to handle that movie.
I'm crying at the mere mention of that book.
Depending on when it came out it wouldn't have ended well. Especially with all these varied flues and such.
So, we're finally getting the never released final issue of the Haunted Mansion comic in a second paperback collection coming in March.
Just went into my LCS today to ask about ordering it. Owner already did it about a week ago when seeing it in the Diamond catalog, knowing I'd be interested in it.
Goddamn, World of Color's version of Night on Bald Mountain is awesome.
I love this cover
God dammit, New Yorker...
People read that slop?
This made me rage more than anything else on the list.
Trendy Bullshit mag. I don't see the humor in that piece at all. I mean its all those retarded hipster jokes and some apparent "wit" that makes no damn sense
The worst fucking thing.
That is terrible and disgusting.
Screw you, New Yorker.
Unfortunately my dad does...
More like NEW FUCKER
"HI, WE'RE THE NEW YORKER! WE DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT EPIC MICKEY, SO LET'S MAKE BASELESS ASSUMPTIONS!"
FFFFFFFFFFFucking New Yorker...
>—When Mickey is shown starving to death after the nuclear disaster, and he eats Porky Pig, we feel that Porky should still be alive when his feet are removed.
AHAHAHA WOW. NO, FUCK YOU, NEW YORKER
It's like the writer wants to provoke shock and awe, so he finds a sound effects keyboard and mashes all the keys to make a noise of scare chords. The content isn't even all that shocking or creative, and the repetition of "hurr so edgy grimndark" just gets BORING after a while. It's like Garth Ennis writing Crossed.
This is why I couldn't work up any ire in response to the article (apart from Porky's mention furrowing my brow). I suppose the writer could have intended to satirize the purpose behind Epic Mickey, which he seems dimly aware of, but it just comes across as the guy being under the impression that his dark 'n' edgy descriptions clashing with Mickey's everyman image is gold.
Fuck year, Up made it to Best Picture. And the funny thing is, I had Playing with the Big Boys Now from Prince of Egypt going on my iPod when I found out.
best animated or actual Best Picture?
Funny, Up is now the second animated film ever to be nominated for Best Picture
damn that is impressive. Usually they have to decide on one or the other
No, movies in Best Animated are still eligible for Best Picture. It's just that the Academy looks down on animation and created the category as a means to have a "kiddy table"
Yea but I remember them having this conversation about Wall-E I believe and that it was a worry about splitting their votes or something.
Bad rumors surrounding "Rapunzel". Despite the fact that the film's debut is less than a year away, there, apparently, isn't enough finished footage of the main characters to cobble together a decent teaser yet. Worse still is a rumbling regarding a possible name change. Morale is rumored to be low.
Last I saw Alan Rosenfeld, he was excited to be working on the project.
At least I think that's what he said. He didn't seem to be disappointed.
This was the first, right?
My face when I heard this news.
According to StitchKingdom, proposed renames for Rapunzel are including "The Thief and the Tower" and "The Hidden Tower"
Because Rapunzel will only get little girls to watch.
A more generic name will clearly get a more generic audience.
Disney Sea is getting their own Fantasmic in 2011, replacing BraviSEAmo. Gonna be drastically different and interesting to see the end result considering it'll be in the round.
Another bit of Park News, but Disney World's doing their own Summer Nightastic thing this year. The Main Street Electrical Parade's going back to Magic Kingdom for the season, along with the Magic, Music and Mayhem fireworks show they made for the shortlived Pirates and Princess Parties (which features a great sequence of Captain Hook's ship attacking the castle)
Tower of Terror will be getting a new drop sequence and effects for the season as well.
New Toy Story 3 trailer is out.
Spot the reason for my file name.
WHAT THE HELL TOTORO
odd...or is it?
UK Trailer is slightly longer
Ken needs to get whupped by an old school Joe
Considering Lasseter is good friends with Miyazaki, and Pixar makes the English dubs for his films, not really.
Wait, the little hedgehog looks familiar too. Who the hell...?
Character is named Mr Pricklepants, voiced by Timothy Dalton. And yeah, he does kinda look like Pooh.
I was having doubts about this sequel, but after seeing the trailer...
>moreso the queue what with it having some vidya games added towards the midway point of the line.
It's ABOUT FUCKING TIME THAT LINE IS BALLS
>Actually look at the post's date
So the Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 Blu-Ray's actually going to include all the finished Fantasia 2006 shorts and probably some other things under the name "Fantasia World"
And I've just found out King of the Elves is not quite dead. It's going through a retooling phase though.
Rapunzel is now officially "Tangled".
God Damn it to pus-spewing hell.
That sounds reasonable enough, actually.
how very..dreamworks of them..some fuck needs to have his head caved in
Can it be Rich Ross? We may as well start using him as a scapegoat for Disney's problems now, what with him having been initially responsible for High School Musical.
“It’s a really fresh, smart take on the Rapunzel story.”
“In our film, the infamous bandit Flynn Rider meets his match in the girl with the 70 feet of magical golden hair. We’re having a lot of fun pairing Flynn, who’s seen it all, with Rapunzel, who’s been locked away in a tower for 18 years.
“I’m so proud of the crew working on this film – they’re doing a fantastic job creating an awesome story with great characters and a stunning world – and it’s all going to look amazing in 3D. All of us here at the studio are incredibly excited for you to see Tangled when it comes out in theaters this November.”
Not so much news, but for anyone making a future trip to Animal Kingdom, this might be a fun little sidequest for you. One of the best kept secrets of the park.
>fresh, smart take
talk like that just screams Dreamworks pop culture referencing bullshit
go read the Brothers Grimm version you fuckers and tell me that isn't epic. I'll give it a chance but if it starts being "topical" I'll scream blood.
The comments I've heard flowing out of the studio is that it's a solid film (with a slightly dark bent, even), and the rest is just marketing bullshit.
If they've managed to keep Madame Gothel (the main villain) on track, that alone should be worth the price of admission, since her schtick is so different from other Disney villains.
I really hate Disney's marketing department. They've been making every Disney movie the last few years look stupid to the general public. Just look at the advertising for Meet the Robinsons
Marketing departments in general are horrible people.
So apparently Russians literally worship Gadget...
Well, Captain EO reopens tomorrow at Disneyland. And they are considering bringing it to Epcot.
The problem with that though was if they did that, they'd probably delay that Imagination redo even more. And I'd rather take a return of Dreamfinder over the Captain returning to Epcot.
Cool blog to go through.
Awesome ad campaign there Disneyland Paris..
Here's a peak of what could be Pixar's first fully traditionally animated short.
>When Day, a sunny fellow, encounters Night, a stranger of distinctly darker moods, sparks fly! Day and Night are frightened and suspicious of each other at first, and quickly get off on the wrong foot. But as they discover each other's unique qualities--and come to realize that each of them offers a different window onto the same world--the friendship helps both to gain a new perspective.
An in-depth look at the Tangled controversy.
I heard that Newt was canceled.
>The images “inside” the characters will be CG, but Day and Night is essentially a 2D short. The character animation is all hand drawn.
"Imagemovers Digital", AKA "Robert Zemeckis' mocap abortion" is officially dead and buried.
And there was much rejoicing.
No. Bad Pixar, bad. Don't make me hit you with the newspaper.
It's better than "Tangled".
I just think Brave is too vague a title for a fairy tale story. At least Tangled is one that can easily be put together with the Rapunzel story.
DARKWING DUCK GOT A TWITTER. (Official too, apparently.)
>Gosalyn's showing me how to use this. I love new gadgets but I have serious doubts 140 characters can contain the brilliance of DARKWING DUC
THIS NEEDS TO BE MORE THEN JUST A PIN SET!
Oh that is just fantastic
Holy shit that is so cool! They need to make this a comic or a game or something. Right now.
At least the pin set's coming with a book or something that tells a story in this world from Ludwig's persepective.
...why do I want to cosplay steampunk Goofy?
Don Hahn, Disney Producer, has said that PatF was viewed as a success by the company, promising that "if there's another director that comes along and wants to make another hand drawn movie, the resources are there to do it."
Well no DUH you have the resources to do it.
Well, that's a better philosophy than "Whoops, been a year, gotta shit something out. Grab a copy of Grimm's and a notepad, and get me Rosanne Barr on line one."
According to Screamscape, there's some survey going around Epcot now that's basically asking "Which country do you want us to destroy in order to put a new one in?"
Even though there's a goddamn easy choice in the form of that stupid little outpost that's not even a real pavillion and a few expansion spaces wide open for something new.
"Tangled" is officially known in France and Brazil as "Rapunzel". It looks like other nations will follow suit.
In short, America is the only country in the world that thinks calling a movie about Rapunzel "Rapunzel" is a bad idea.
Don't blame the nation for the ideas of a few execs.
American producers always pull this kinda shit. Especially stupid when the first title made a hell lot more sense!!!!
THAT FUCKIN' MOVIE
You sure you weren't aiming for the poster above that had Butch Hartman take the movie below that was already in English and redub it with celebrities and fart jokes?
is the original available someplace?
yea and it sucks hard
McKellen was one of the original UK voices actually. LIke the only one they kept
>tl:dr: Henry Selick is comin' home.
oh god please let this be true
Awesome, wonder what his projects will be
I have a bad feeling about this.
Well he was dumped mostly because James and the Giant Peach didn’t do so well. I don’t know how good that contract is but I’m pretty sure Disney is expecting several Coraline grade successes from him. I'm not saying he can't do it I'm just nervous.
While we can question the quality of JatGP, Disney let him go because they didn't see Stop-motion as a viable medium any more, much like when they shut down the 2D department.
Now, with movies like Corpse Bride, W&G, Coraline, and so forth, they'll probably be a bit more reluctant to let him go.
Give a little whistle...
A full work in progress test video of World of COlor's come online. Sequences are mostly out of order and Wonderland's missing while Pirates is in. Should at least give some idea of what the show's gonna be like
I see a bronze Hat, Coat, Umbrella and Medal to be a fitting thing affixed to his resting place.
From the sounds of it on Micechat though, PIrates is just an encore show. Though it's weird that this test that was apparently shown to Bob Iger and it omits Wonderland.
>‘Reign of the Dinosaurs’ is a new TV special produced by "top creative talent at Disney and Pixar" that is being described as a revolutionary, landmark event. ‘Dinosaurs’ (not to be confused with Disney’s Dinosaur) will be based on the latest paleontological research while promising to focus on strong storytelling, typical traits associated with the studio.
>An excerpt from the show’s description follows:
"New creatures abound in a wondrous new world – giant dinos with Freddy Krueger style clawed hands, pygmy T-rex, frogs so big they can eat dinosaurs. Learn the latest in understanding of dinosaur behaviors with exotic mating dances, the inner workings of the T-rex’s nuclear family, dinosaurs drunk on fermenting fruit, dinosaurs in apocalyptic events, the underwater birthing of mosasaurs, and prehistory’s angriest mammals. "
>Return to the scare floor! Pixar's "Brave" will be released 6/15/12, and a sequel to "Monsters Inc." hits theaters 11/16/12.
Fuck, they really did change Bear and the Bow's title. It's even worse then Tangled.
>Angelina Jolie being considered for Tim Burton's live action Maleficent movie
Oh hell no, they're not actually making that movie, are they? It's a terrible idea.
Of course they are.
The question is: Who will Johnny Depp be dressed as for this movie?
>Monsters Inc. 2, NOT helmed by original director
>Rumors of "Gnomeo and Juliet" (THIS film) begin back on
Save us Ron Clements! Save us John Musker!
Please tell me Gnomeo's gonna be co-produced in India like that one dog movie and not see the light of day in the US.
It's a jukebox musical featuring Elton John that has been shoved through production mainly because the brass think they can make a mint off the soundtrack.
Be afraid. Be VERY afraid.
Oh I know about the project's history enough. I was just hoping that the idea was lame enough to use for that international effort.
Either way, I'm not too worried. It's not from the main animation studio so like The Wild and Valiant before it, this movie will tank hard and fall into the abyss of obscurity.
but that High School Musical dumbass might still use it failure as a reason to shift direction anyone have pictures of that Jukebox Junky?
Holy...I just wanna kill that little bastard
I actually felt physical pain after looking at this.
This still feels fake even though I know it's not.
Are there actually people so out of touch with reality that they think this is a good idea?
It's being made in Canada at Starz, I believe, so there's a chance it'll end up swept under the rug like Valiant was.
It's not the first time they outsourced a movie idea they couldn't get to work to Canada.
I didn't even know this movie existed till not long ago.
Thanks for reminding me of how much I hate Greg Cipes.
yeeeah. That studio is bankrupt and disassembled now, sad times. The competition for animation jobs in Toronto just skyrocketed because of it.
The movie sucked something fierce, but the William Shatner Wildebeest was so cool. I left the theatre feeling content just because of him.
Dat viral marketing
Your toys will kneel before Zod
As jawesome as World of Color is looking from more of these promo videos, I still have to ask whether Wonderland is still up in this bitch.
You promised us Steve. For the love of crap, please deliver.
>>55870 Hnnnggg my childhood
Not really "news", but check out these designs for TV shows that were never produced.
I, for one, would be riveted to my TV to catch the latest adventures of Disney's "The Bronte Sisters".
Also King Tut.
It's like Kate Beaton made a cartoon!
Why isn't this a real thing for me to watch? :(
...that stupid pose...
God dammit, someone needs to make The Brontes happen.
Oh wow, why isn't this real.
Any background info on The Brontes or just that character lineup?
All I know is that Disney first contacted the guy to do designs for an "Aristocats" animated series.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT!
Seriously, I'm shitting bricks right now in amazement here.
THAT looks expensive.
They've had the talking head tech for a while, but only for stage shows like Dream Along With Mickey or the Disney on Ice/Disney Live tours.
But goddamn, dat voice modulator or whatever it is.
It's Disney, what did you expect?
I think it might be something similar to the new system Henson Company uses for their CGI. Thinking the suited one is walking blind with whomever is using what looks to be camera eyes is doing the vocals and movement and giving the walker cues. Still if that is Mickey Synth than its amazing.
Christ, enough eye shadow?
Since Disney TV is so hit-or-miss, I'm glad that never made it, 'coz it would've probably have ruined this.
Disney uses the digital puppetry system of Henson's for stuff like Turtle Tak with Crush or Monsters Inc Laugh Floor
The Mickey heads operate by small little control systems wired to the gloves, or at least the ones used in stage shows work that way I believe.
That show is completely terrifying by the way.
I know the Rivers of America have always had crappy fake animals, but what the fuck is this shit? How badly did the River refurb budget get cut there?
Mountain Lions aren't quite as bad, but damn they could have been executed better.
At least the live ponies they put in the Indian Village are pretty awesome.
New pic from the short. It's confirmed to be a mixed-media project, with the characters themselves animated traditionally and the scenery within them being in CGI.
maybe they are all just stand ins for the real stuff. Newer Animatronics may need additional weatherproofing tests
Yeah, but it'd be trickier to switch stuff in and out like that now seeing as the River work's just been finished and stuff.
And the low budget already kept them from making a Mike Fink animatronic for the updated version of the cabin and has made the new Indian scouts basically motionless.
Well, what we all basically knew is now official.
overall it looks like Pixar bit off more than it could chew in the way of projects
Oh good, they're finally putting something in over at the abandoned half of Pop Century.
Also, Aladdin's run has been extended over at California Adventure due to popular demand. No specific final show night now.
Remember that Disney animator who worked on Facilier and was doing a personal project of animating America Sings?
He's putting dailies up of various other little projects he's working on, including some little things based on the original drafts of Home on the Range for a Halloween project.
Joe Jump's officially confirmed for 2013, though under the new title Reboot Ralph.
And Bud Luckey's working on his own movie at Pixar, so we may yet get a combo-breaker for the streak of sequels.
Four weeks to World of Color, though there's the possibility of Annual Passholder previews
Maybe now they can afford to do more experimental animation projects.
Maybe something along the lines of an uncensored Team Fortress 2 movie.
What is that? Pokemon?
Nein, it's Lion King
>Glance down at comments.
>"OMG! Im So Going To DISNEYLAND For My Birthday In June! Im Going To Be Cosplaying As Sora From Kingdom Hearts When I Go, And When I Go Meet Mickey Mouse. Imma Ask Him Wheres Riku! xD"
The Stampede's one of the scenes where they decided to do something different with the animation. Other example would be the paper animation for Chernabog, some fish for Under the Sea and a few other things.
Paper animation was how the Alice in Wonderland sequence would have worked until execs forced them to cut it for Pirates because of some "Show needs to be modern and not pander to baby-boomers despite the fucking name coming from Walt's old TV show" crap.
Welcome to Iger's Republic of Eisnerstan
She's gonna enjoy getting kicked out of the park. They only allow cosplay stuff at their Halloween parties and even then, no masks. Some guy with a badass Hatbox Ghost (removed character from the Haunted Mansion that's got a Boba Fett-esque following) costume ended up getting kicked out last year from the mask rule.
Leonard Nimoy and Mark Hamill in Birth by Sleep?
I am so okay with this.
Carousel at Disney World is getting a name change, presumably as part of the Fantasyland overhaul. And they bothered to do a backstory for it too.
>Following their fairy-tale romance and happily-ever-after wedding, Cinderella and Prince Charming took up residence in Cinderella’s Castle. With peace throughout the kingdom, Prince Charming had time to practice for jousting tournaments. In the countryside near the castle, he built a training device of carved horses, on which he could practice the art of ring-spearing, a tournament event in which a knight rides his horse full speed, lance in hand, toward a small ring hanging from a tree limb, with the object of spearing the ring. This event was known by various names throughout the lands, but generally came to be called “carrousel.”
>The carrousel device drew the attention of the villagers, who wanted to take a turn on this amazing spinning contraption. So Prince Charming had a second carrousel constructed closer to the Castle, where everyone could take a spin on this wondrous invention. Instead of a working knight’s training device, however, this new carrousel is more befitting its regal location in the Castle Courtyard – its rustic training horses replaced with ornately decorated prancing steeds adorned with golden helmets and shields, flower garlands, feathers and other festoons. Prince Charming invites one and all to test their horsemanship skills and to enjoy their own happy ending.
I went to Epcot with a group of people in anime cosplay, and we were fine. Hetalia costumes aren't that odd compared to some other anime's, but it was still obvious we were dressed up. I suppose it might be different if it's a Disney franchise though.
OMG YES NERDGASAM
Apparently the reason Hatbox Ghost didn't come back earlier this year to the Disneyland Haunted Mansion was the budget for it was taken up by the Space Mountain Ghostly Galaxy stuff at the last minute. So next year's a possibility for his return.
Wow. They're really giving this redesign that full 9 miles, huh?
They're also redoing the entrance and queue to Winnie the Pooh so it'll fit into the forest, which included moving that tree from the Pooh playground across the way.
Hey. Either Facilier and Wonderland DID make it to final cut and that test run was a WIP, or marketing is doing some epic trollan here.
Doesn't stop the site's Experience loop from being pretty damn awesome.
Huh. From more Full length test run videos of World of Color, it seems they may have made alternate cuts to make things different for each viewing. Another test video emerged with a new Friend like Me bit in place of Hercules and the Firebird returning to the Villains segment.
More Toy Story 3 promotion stuff
From a recent preview showing. I'm not even sure anymore what's going on with character placement anymore. Just the sorta thing I'll have to wait and see when the final showing comes around.
And a nifty shot of Agrabah for an idea of scale.
Day and Night clip!
>Wizard of Oz prequel in the works about how the Wizard came to power
>Robert Downey Jr interested in the part
I don't get it.
Don't get what?
Why are you going OH FUCK YES?
Mickey blinks and moves his mouth now. the tech is damn amazing.
Not to mention fucking talks in real-time. This is a serious revolution with the costumed characters
U-Stream's gonna have the official premiere tomorrow, though there's already video of the radio contest showing from last night going up, being this is Disney's official stream, there'll probably be a better view of stuff.
Tangled Trailer's up.
Someone got Dreamworks in my Disney....IT TASTES LIKE SHIT!!!!!!
Disney Marketing's been shitty for years now, a bad trailer was inevitable.
Well, I like the animation but I'm not keen on the story. Or the music :/
Oh fuck, and I was so excited for this movie when it was called Rapunzel and the goal was an uber painterly quality.
I KINDA MAD.
...and they all make this face.
I think it's still kinda there, but it's really subtle. Like in Rapunzel's hair or some of the backgrounds.
My ring burns red with my rage and fuels my desire to rip the throats of the morons who thought this was a good idea. This damn thing feels nothing like a Disney movie in any respect.
They took Glen Keane off it, completely rewrote the movie, and told them it had to be done by this Thanksgiving..
Glen Keane's story was apparently darker and more about the lasting effects of being raised in a spire with no people. A buddy of mine got to see the animatic for the version that got scrapped, so this is all just word-of-mouth stuff.
Glen's Exec producing isn't he?
BUNCH OF SPINELESS FUCKS AT THE TOP!!!!!
EVERY FUCKING TIME SOMEONE HAS SOMETHING UNIQUE AND INTERESTING THEY BUTTFUCK IT ALL TO HELL!!!! AND THEN THEY WONDER WHY IT WAS ONLY MODERATELY SUCCESSFUL AT BEST....BECAUSE YOU RIPPED OUT ITS SOUL YOU STUPID FUCKS!!!!!! YAAAAGHH!!!!!!!
I has a sad.
Allegedly part of the problem was that he's spent something in the neighbourhood of 15 years working on it and they were worried it was never going to get finished.
But if they had a finished animatic, it seems odd that they would scrap it. It's a disappointing end to the legacy, to be sure.
>darker and more about the lasting effects of being raised in a spire with no people
Fuck it, we just need to fund something like that ourselves.
Really? I heard that it was a modern telling of the story.
Modern-day setting, magic, and computers and shite.
I dunno, though. As your case, this is all word-of-mouth.
That was the Eisner version which got killed as soon as Lasseter took over as to do a straighter version of the story.
Well, with all the worry about Tangled, at least the test screenings sound positive
Another test screening review: http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/05/31/early-buzz-disneys-tangled/
Seems like they kept the watercolor style, but the trailer didn't show much.
The trailer was made up entirely of stuff that was rendered out months ago for a different teaser that was leaking around online, some of which wasn't even guaranteed to be in the movie, and was just put together for the teaser (apparently) Could just be they didn't have the painterly stuff rendered out then? Or didn't want that leaking too early and they're still using the same old footage for this trailer.
So with E3 coming, we're finally gonna see more on Epic Mickey.
And E3 page with trailer and cinematics
Saw Toy Story 3. Have to save, it really lived up to my expectations.
Did anyone else laugh when they realized the garbageman was Sid?
At first I thought he was the truck driver.
Yeah, I haven't seen it as of this post, but damn it, /tv/ spoiled the Hah! Made you look. Have you even SEEN the movie? You shouldn't be looking up spoilers if you haven't seen the movie. Because it, y'know, SPOILS the movie.
I can't be alone. Fookin' /tv/...
I know who the bad guy thanks to legos box art!
Forgot to but a is in there...
Also well done lego, well done!
Why isn't that real?
Oh hi there Bob, updating on release I see.
GOOD NEWS...Lion King in 3D next year!!!
BAD NEWS...Snow Queen is shelved. Son of a bitch.
>Snow Queen is shelved.
Do not fret! We have known Snow Queen was off the assembly line for quite a while--in fact, this is a step UP, since before we thought it had just been straight-up canceled.
Hope springs eternal!
Strong possibility for Disney to build an entire museum to display stuff from the archives?
Better than any park.
>The Fantasia four-disc boxed set will contain a beautifully restored version of the 1940 classic--scanned at 4K and remixed for 7.1 channels--as well as Fantasia 2000, plus a platter of Blu-ray extras and a DVD copy of the film. Among the many special features will be an interactive edition of the fabled Shultheis Notebook, a priceless animators "bible" compiled over the career of one of Fantasia's key creators, and the first-ever home video release of Destino, Walt Disney's collaboration with Salvador Dali. Destino is backed by its own 70-minute documentary.
>The folks at Disney have also thought up a novel way to preserve archival, standard-definition bonus features without cluttering up the disc: We will be able to download them via BD-Live! The Fantasia box will be released in December, at a price to be determined.
I think we have a worthy successor to the Fantasia Anthology set right here. Still gonna keep that extras disc from that though.
I haven't seen a box set that elaborate since I heard about that 14 disc Superman Ultimate collection of all 5 Superman movies, a bunch of cartoons, and a metric Krypton sized hunk of bonus features.
This will be the sole reason to why I want a Blu-Ray player. That and my favourite TV show boxsets like Lost
Brad Bird's contributing to the new Tron movie. FUCK YES
Brad Bird, Jeff Bridges, Daft Punk... THIS MOVIE JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER!
First look at Pixar's Dinosaur Documentary for Discovery Channel. More to be shown at Comic-Con
>Live action Gargoyles movie wholly unrelated to the original franchise
if they are in the same universe this might have some life but if this goes all Airbender then I've got nothing.
No, it's saying it's an different project that just happens to have to the same name and also being made by Disney.
Which is just throwing salt into the wounds of the fans who have been denied the second half of season 2 on DVD and the cancellation of the comic.
So according to some mexican site, Ramayana and a 2D retool of King of the Elves are supposedly in the pipeline and that new Pooh movie will actually be done within two months.
Direct to video stuff? Ruh-roh Raggy...
Hey, most direct-to-video sequel/spin-off sucks because they're made without involvement or permission of the original staff. It's still Pixar who are actually making this.
I THOUGHT LATSSER BANISHED THE DTV DEMONS TO THE 9TH CIRCLE OF HELL.
Just the ones fucking with the Animated Canon.
is that.... is that an Adachi puppy?
It's an angry mameshiba.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT WANT!
This...almost makes up for his resignation on The Hobbit.
It's an interesting sign when even the directors are surprised by the positive feedback they get at test screenings.
Scroll down. I think we have another factor in why Disney bought Marvel.
DOOBIE DOOBIE DOO-BAH DOOBIE DOOBIE DOO-BAH
>Disney's California Adventure will soon be the home to the Phineas and Ferb Perry the Platypus Adventure. (They're still working on the name.) Think Kim Possible Adventure from Epcot, but in California and with Perry the Platypus in the Kim Possible role. There will be three or four adventures that take adventurers all around the park attempting to foil the plans of Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz.
Ooh. Do they mean THE Digicomics service?
I really am enjoying PNF getting the marketing push it deserves.
Now we need Disney to get off their asses and give Olivia Olson a solo album.
Could be cool.
Uncensored for the first time even.
Will they really be allowed to reprint the week Mickey tries to kill himself?
Why can't this game come sooner?
Most still list a big ambiguous "Holiday 2010" but I've seen a few unaccredited places say early November.
I'm so sure right now that Yen Sid is KH Yen Sid and this is the story of how Mickey and Yen Sid met.
1: Yen Sid looks and sounds the same as he did in KH2
2: His tower looks the same
3: Blot is as close to a Heartless as you can get.
Also, if Figment is in it, you'd probably explode in nerdgasms.
At this point, I'd rather see Figment in a sequel. Make it a subplot of Figment diving down there to get his lost Epcot friends back in something he perceives as an Orpheus style Journey to Hell and Back.
Oh of course, it's taken directly from kingdom hearts and not say making blatant allusions to Fantasia. Because we all know that children regularly watch either version of The Sorcerer's Apprentice and know his name well outside of a single game sequel. They needed an anagram for Walt and he was the perfect choice. He's a damn angry wizard, what do you want him to sound like? Curly Howard?
That and Yen Sid has a few mannerisms based on Walt's, which is why they gave him the backwards name. Like that eyebrow raise after he bails Mickey out is something Walt would do when he was mad at people.
And spelling Walt's name backwards was a tactic used a few other times, including when they were buying up property for Disney World, with one of the fake company names being Retlaw Enterprises.
Not to mention giving him small physical characteristics like the same nose. I reiterate that he was the perfect choice to use in a game about forgotten and abandoned characters as being someone who starred in what many consider to be Disney's Magnum Opus, he's ironically one of the most vague or unremembered characters of all. This will have little similarity with KH mostly because that game for whatever reason is still actively used by the corporation.
Besides Phantom Inkblot is a lot more menacing in this than any half baked JRPG philosophy, he’s an all consuming amorphous blob of ink. What else would be an adversary to a world of paint?
Yeah, but the "Villains of Wasteland need a heart to get out" plot element definitely draws some parallels. Which is what started a lot of this guessing.
"Heart" and simplistic American values/humanity have always been a major plot point of Disney films though. That's part of the reason why it shows up in Kingdom Hearts at all besides being increasingly twisted in bland final fantasy tropes and burned in the Eisner dash for sequel money. KH didn't invent Disney Morality; it's just the worst offender and incarnation of it in recent memory. Trust me, if this fails it will be from Warren's faults.
But the way they're using heart is the exact same in the sense of being key in the physical make-up of a complete being in their respective cosmologies as opposed to "some hogwash about the human spirit"
How do you mean? From what I know of the game it isn't battling against a vague interpretation of Jungian evil and not following some undisclosed set of rules on how to combat it. There is a clear antagonist and Mickey is in a world filled mostly with anguish of not only being discarded but trapped in a false paradise. They have a right to being upset or mistrustful of Mickey and depending on his choices they can learn to forgive and show him some empathy IE "get a heart". It’s a redemption story that succeeds or fails depending on the player.
Like the Villains plan is to physically extract Mickey's heart because it is the strongest heart.
Yes, Mickey's heart is a part of his traditional character and why he is popular and loved while they are not. It serves a purpose in this story outside of being a macguffin and is both specifically and metaphorically fatal instead of a condition that isn't fully explained. Are you saying they shouldn't do this?
Oh damn, I'm sorry for causing a shitstorm by being a tool guys :(
I thought I was just talking with FigmentJedi. Really I just didn't like how you worded your theory. I was more groaning at you then raging at you. Don't sweat it Joe.
I just want this game to be part of the KH series so people will say that KH has more then one agreed on good game.
KH2 apparently ruined Kingdom Hearts forever just because a pack of fat 15 year old girls cannot tell the difference between brotherhood and loyalty between 12 men and homosex.
And I'd really prefer this to be a clean start to a new franchise that does some of the things Kingdom Hearts did but with competent western creative people and a greater focus on all the aspects of Disney and not just the most prominent feature films.
I'd rather not have Kingdom Hearts bullshit associated with this. Fairly decent games, but terrible writing that should stay far away from a project about reworking Mickey from the ground up.
I'm afraid this is going to be its own game that only includes potential heart theft only from Mickey because they want his popularity and to possibly write in a reason why players can go scrapper. This is a separate world entirely from Kingdom Hearts.
I know what I've chosen for my soundtrack when playing the game
Oh now you've done it little mister, I hope you're willing to rewrite all of The Protomen's songs with lyrics inspired by Epic Mickey because what you have to do now after posting that.
God the exterior of that ride has become an eyesore
Now there's some of that creepy abandoned amusement park feel. Those Dumbos...
I wonder how well or ruined you can make these places. Like even if you just dump paint into the level its still looks no better then a spit polish here and a oiled cracked gear there.
So apparently the Fantasyland Expansion at WDW has been altered quite a bit. Instead of those Princess Meet and Greet things in the middle of the new space, they're going to put a Seven Dwarves Mine Coaster there and replace the Snow White dark-ride with the Princess Meets crap.
Also, Gaston's Tavern will be the first of the new buildings to get it's foundations poured. They're still clearing some 20,000 Leagues infrastructure from the space where LIttle Mermaid is going
Cover for the new Fantasia Blu-Ray, but unfortunately, Fantasia World's been scrapped and only Destino will be included on the set. I mad, but dammit, this set is still pretty want.
>Other Blu-ray exclusives include the documentary "Dali & Disney: A Date with Destino", BD-Live feature "Disney's Virtual Vault", an interactive art gallery, DisneyView sidebar art, and detailed notes from the newly-discovered Schultheis Notebook. Available on both the Blu-ray and DVD discs are audio commentaries and the featurettes "Disney Family Museum" and "Musicana: Walt's Inspiration for a Fantasia Sequel".
Isn't it kind of tacky to have a quote on the cover praising the film by the guy who made it?
Well to be fair it did get really popular in its time and Walt is only talking about the original. I think that quote has been on the fantasia cover before but yeah it is a little cheap to put it on the front. However the quote is under all the other characters and isn't bigger then Disney's signature so it’s not as bad as it could be.
Fantasia flopped when it first came out man. Was the only time Walt really felt like he had failed.
Huh, maybe I was thinking of something else.
Snow White was pretty much the biggest gamble Walt ever took, and everyone knew it was going to fail.
And he proved everyone fucking wrong about that and the other huge gamble of his career that was Disneyland.
Fantasia was kinda fucked because the new sound system took effort to install, it was a little too "high-art" for mainstream tastes, and with World War II going on, the international market was kinda fucked.
Now, to get off that subject, let's bask in this cool Collector's Edition of Epic Mickey that has a Behind the Scenes DVD, Wii skins and a Mickey figure.
WHEN IS THIS STUPID THING GOING RELEASE DAMN IT? GIVE ME A DATE SO I CAN WAIT. :(
Toys R Us is listing the release date as November 15th. Which would place it three days before Mickey's birthday, so it'd be a fitting time for it.
Nintendo Power's got an Epic Mickey article and we got more info on the Blot. Sounds kinda Earthbound-y too.
"The tragedy of the Blot... I learned a really important thing from John Lasseter. He told me that when Toy Story really came to life... the key question they had to ask was, 'What does a toy want?' Well, toys want to be played with. And that was the foundation for everything in the movie. So he looked at me and said, 'What does a cartoon want?' ... what we came up with is a cartoon character wants four things: to be drawn, to be animated and brought to life, to be projected and seen by an audience, and, finally, to be loved... The Blot [in our game] had none of them. He's a mistake. And he's aware enough to know that. So that's what makes him a monster.
"What he can do is erase things. He has all of the same abilities Mickey has. But he can also sort of suck the life out of cartoons. He can absorb the paint and leave an inert shell. And when he absorbs the paint from a cartoon character, he kind of gains some dim knowledge of their desires. So he comes to want what they wanted. He wants to be a cartoon character. That's his motivation. And the Mad Doctor exploits that. He says, 'I can help you get out of here and get what you want. I can send you out of Wasteland and you'll become the cartoon star that you want to be.' Maybe it's a lie, maybe it's not. So that's their relationship; the Mad Doctor is sort of tempting the Blot. You've got the brains and the brawn. And I hope the Blot gives kids nightmares. I really do."
That depends on two things, the blot slowly gaining the ability to speak and second to become so massive that he can't distinguish himself from all that he has absorbed. "I'm sad Mickey..."
Well, he'll definitely get huge judging from this art
> And I hope the Blot gives kids nightmares. I really do.
He's a good man.
Fuller detail from the Nintendo Power article.
Now I CAN'T wait!
Site won't load for me. Does it say anything else?
Got a few more level announcements, including how the final level just crumbles around you as you keeping moving on to the final fight. And more insight into the backstory, like how the Mad Doctor operates.
My sister will be doing an interview to be a receptionist at Pixar Vancouver. Here's hoping!
It doesn't look like Digicomics has been updated in a while.
I wonder if they gave up on that.
Perhaps I should buy a few stories.
could be cool.
Rest of the Epic Mickey intro's up.
Also, I'm pretty sure Digicomics will be updated again eventually. It is how they're going to be distributing those Tales of the Wasteland comics.
Glad you’re on trailer duty. Aw, Oswald's shy.
SOME TIMES SOME CRIMES GO SLIPPIN THROUGH THE CRACKS...
Oh! So the cameo was a teaser!
BUT THESE TWO
ARE PICKING UP THE SLACK
THERE'S NO CASE TOO BIG,
NO CASE TOO SMALL
IF YOU NEED HELP JUST CALL
It must happen.
In order to don't forget?
New Tangled trailer. Much better then the godawful teaser
And the US trailer which has a few differences
...Was he just swordfighting with his horse?
I guess I have to see this movie now.
Don't fuck with my hopes like this Disney. I'm actually starting to get excited.
Damn Europe getting this five days before us
It gives me time to work and play 2 Worlds 2. Mickey will definitely make bank in America, let them focus on baiting some Euros with a few less days. November 30th is better than anywhere in December.
New Disney Park announcements tomorrow morning
Disneyland's finally coming to Australia?
OH LAWDY DO WANT.
WHY CAN'T I BE IN CALIFORNIA NOW?
Not sure on that one but I do know it's heavily rumored Paris is getting a Marvel park.
Flynn's better be stocked like a classic arcade
Holy shit, seconded on the DO WANT.
Maybe my uncle will take me...
>Nothing new from that press conference outside the latest marketing theme, the primary gimmick of which basically seems to be a repeat of the 50th Anniversary's Guest Photomosaic gimmick, though now, projections on the castle of guest submitted pictures.
Should have expected this. Bombshell announcements like the Paris 3rd gate or the altered Fantasyland expansion plans are more of a D23 or Shareholder meeting thing.
I can see time itself.
Mickey's animations are slightly different!
Yeah, I think they applied what they learned to make some of the animations seem more natural.
I doubt I would have noticed or cared when I watched this as a kid, but it's kind of strange seeing the 40's characters designs used for old timey animation gags.
