Figure this might work better than just making dozens of new threads....So, yeah, apparently this (Pixar Canada) is happening! It'll be handling various animation projects Pixar doesn't have the time or manpower to, but that they want to maintain the same level of quality on. Things like amusement park attractions and spin-off shorts.
When did this happen?
>>33955Fairly recently, apparently. I'm not even sure the building's been built yet.
>>33957and pixar beings its next stage in world domination
>>33958I, for one, welcome our new animating overlords.
>>33959I'd like to remind them that, as a beloved internet personality, I'd be helpful in rounding up people to work in their underground CGI nugget mines.
Space Mountain's reopened at Disney World. Queue and postshow have been updated some, moreso the queue what with it having some vidya games added towards the midway point of the line.Queue elements really emphasize a Space Airport storyline rather then the delivery company theme it had since Fed-Ex was sponsoring back in the 90s. Baggage claim towards the start of that post show has a nifty little Horizons shout out on some luggage stickers.
>>33962Sounds cool. Anyone been on it?
>>33963From the reports I've been getting, ride's become even darker and they've added some new digital projection effects. They didn't mess with the track too much beyond replacing some sections. Disney World management doesn't like it when something's out of commission too long so we'd never get as extensive an overhaul as Disneyland got a few years back.
>>33967not when the head guy in charge of the park has a distaste for them anyway
>>33968Jay Rasulo's not in charge of the parks anymore. He switched places with Disney's CFO, though it remains to be seen what sorta guy the new Parks head is.Either way, I am dissapoint at Iger.
>>33969Thomas O. Staggshttp://corporate.disney.go.com/corporate/bios/thomas_staggs.htmlhmmmm looking over his stuff it looks like if he can be convinced that it will make money and is a solid investment then he will go for it.
"Princess and the Frog" soundtrack out now.
That's very good news for my animation student friends, sounds like they'll have some better employment prospects after graduation. Also good news for me on the off chance I can use my design education to weasel my way into the animation industry
God, if only this was fully animated...
http://miceage.micechat.com/kevinyee/ky112409a.htmFuller detail on that Disney World Space Mountain makeover
"Snow Queen" has officially been confirmed by producer Peter Del Vecho. It looks like Ron Clements and John Musker will NOT be directing, as a new project for them has been confirmed. That means the current Walt Disney Animation Studios roster is as follows:"The Princess and the Frog" (2D)(2009)(Musical)"Rapunzel"(3D)(2010)(Musical, supposedly done in a 60's rock fashion)"Winnie the Pooh" (2D)(2011)"King of the Elves"(3D)(2012)"The Snow Queen"(2D)(2013?)No set release date:Joe Jump (CG)Untitled Ron Clements and John Musker project (2D)
>>35468 Another Pooh movie? Fuck. I hate Disney for creating that shitty boring as hell franchise.
>>35473They're trying to make it more like the original Honey Tree and Rather Blustery day apparently.
So with the Captain EO return at Disneyland supposedly in mid-January, apparently it's being considered for being put back at Epcot as well. Also, the Paradise Pier lagoon is all filled up again after the installation of the World of Color stuff. Just a few more tweaks on the fountain system and they'll start programming and testing stuff. The viewing area construction should be finished by February, meaning the end of the construction wall hallway in the pic of the site here. Also, Tokyo Disney Sea is considering putting in their own version of Fantasmic, though considering how that park is set up, would definitely be radically different from the US versions
>>35478The World of Color show platform hereMiceChat's weekly updates have been a fine way to keep posted on it.Also forgot, Aladdin the Musical is ending this summer, to be replaced with a expanded version of the Toy Story Musical on the Disney Cruise Ship now.http://micechat.com/forums/blogs/dateline-disneyland/1321-california-adventure-construction-bye-bye-aladdin-stroller-rental-center-more.html#DD2-1
>>35479Aww dang, I love the Aladdin musical... but it has been there for a long time, I suppose. Maybe it will be relocated elsewhere.
Word is Chris Buck ("Tarzan", "Surf's Up") is going to direct "Snow Queen".Frankly, I'd prefer Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale.
>>35482Probably not. Disney World doesn't have theaters big enough to accomodate the Flying Carpet scene.
Prep and Landing's been good so far.
Goodnight sweet princehttp://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/top/all/6773578.html

>>36333He was a great man. Standing up for the dream when everyone else was ready to leave it.
Partial casting call for Frankenweenie is up, contains plot spoilers, possible racism. [EDGAR] A Caucasian Male 8-11 years old. Edgar is a needy little kid who wants desperately to be accepted by the cool kids in his class. Naturally a little nerdy, he gravitates to Victor and basically annoys him until he agrees to let him be his lab partner. He is more than a little gullible and is easily tricked into giving away Victor’s precious secret and unwittingly starting the whole mess with the other monsters. [TOSHIAKI] A Japanese Male 8-11 years old. Toshiaki is the natural leader of the cool kids in Victor’s class. He is a good athlete, and an avid little league baseball player but Toshiaki has a mischievous side. He is the one that ultimately manipulates E into giving up the secret of Sparky and it is his idea to turn the other animals into monsters. He is Japanese and his monster creation is a little Godzilla lizard. [BOB] A Caucasian Male 8-11 years old. Bob is the dumb, jockey kid. He has more brawn than brains. He follows Toshiaki and Nassor around even when it means that he has to be the one to test the home made jet pack that Toshiaki has created. [NASSOR] A Middle-Eastern Male 8-11 years old. Nassor is the star of the little league team and just goes along with Toshiak’s plan. He is a bit more serious than the others but still doesn’t see the impending chaos when he chooses to bring his hamster mummy back to life. [WEIRD GIRL] A Caucasian Female 8-11 years old. She has a very dark and ominous take on even the most mundane occurrences and jumps at the chance to bring some dead animals back to life. [ELSA] A Caucasian Female 8-11 years old. Elsa is a sweet girl who likes to follow the rules and not cause too much trouble. A bit of a “goody two shoes,” she is not afraid to speak up and even corrects the teacher when he makes a mistake. She is excited about the festivities planned for the town’s Dutch Day parade and even has a solo dance number in the show.
I fucking love Pogo so much.
>>37584New Pogo?!I'm very pleased!
Pic from Rapunzel scanned from some French movie article. I'm liking the look.
>>37589 And its Pixar endorsed
>>39387Kinky
Not so much news as much as something cool regular /co/'s been posting the past couple days. Pooh's such a dick in this comic strip.www.creators.com/comics/winnie-the-pooh/
"King of the Elves" is officially cancelled. Here's some concept art!
>>40400Oh, and Tim Burton is doing a live-action prequel to Sleeping Beauty called Maleficent.
>>40400>>40401PORQUE?!
>>40401>>40400D:
>>40400Source? I've heard the project had stalled out, but hadn't heard it was officially axed.>>40401Not sure if want...Tim Burton, Maleficent - Good.Disney sequel/prequel, live action - Possibly very bad.Again though, source? Google reveals a great deal of rampant speculation but nothing concrete.
>>40400>>40401Aw man.And I have a bad feeling about that Maleficent movie.
>>40406The thing about Maleficent is that her whole shtick is that she's THE epic badguy. She's not some sympathetic character you need to sympathize with. She is a straight up spiteful, hateful bitch who killed an innocent girl for something that she had nothing to do with. She turned into a dragon and said "NOW YOU FACE ME AND ALL THE POWERS OF HELL!" all to imprison a man for years and have him turn into a crotchety old man for him to return to his still young and still sleeping bride.Trying to "put a new twist" on that is just bad no matter how you slice it.
>>40415Well, the pathetically optimistic part of me hopes that it won't be some mushy backstory that ruins the character, like what happened to Vader. I hope they keep this just a nice story of Maleficent being the ultimate evil badass. However, as my realistic side points out, that would be the awesome thing to do, but movie people pretty much never do what would be truly awesome.
>>40404Maleficent: http://www.aintitcool.com/talkback_display/43678?q=node/43678Admittedly, I jumped the gun on that one. It looks like it's still just a rumor. Frankly, I hope it stays that way: sure-fire way to screw up Maleficent is to give her some Freudian excuse.KOTE: http://blueskydisney.blogspot.com/2010/01/glimpse-into-future-past-never-to-be.htmlhttp://flipbooksnstuff.blogspot.com/2010/01/king-of-elves.htmlBONUS: RAIN-DAY FUN! Post this picture on regular /co/ and see how many posts it takes for the thread to derail into rampant perversion! :D
You know what?Thank goodness. These KotE concept pieces really aren't doing much for me.
Model of that Fantasyland expansion in the works at WDW.
>>40494looking retro
>>40498Especially Dumbo. Looks a lot more like the original Dumbo setup then the newer one they installed in the mid-90s.Wish they'd use this as an excuse to get rid of the Medieval Festival theming of the current "Castle Courtyard" area of Fantasyland, though it looks like Pooh will at least get an overhauled entrance.
>>40501Think they are making room for some Toy Story themed stuff? could fit it into the entrance area to frontierland at least the Woody Stuff
>>40502Never noticed but Jessie is a bit chesty for a stuffed doll from the olden times
>>40503I mean I've seen some old stuffed dolls but usually they diddn't denote curves
>>40502Toy Story's pretty well covered at Disney World already. They got Buzz Lightyear in Magic Kingdom already, plus Toy Story Mania at the Studios. And Frontierland isn't directly accessible from Fantasyland/the hub at Magic Kingdom, gotta go through Liberty Square. Disneyland on the other hand does have that Big Thunder Ranch area being considered for expansion though.
>>40505Guess they are looking back at some of Walts early ideas http://www.martinsvids.net/ great site for Disney Videos
>>40507Oh I've known about Martin Smith's works for maybe five years now, via the Mousebits torrents. His stuff is amazing.New Space Mountain and Tower of Terror videos are apparently in the works.
Huh. So Velveteen Rabbit was apparently in development at Disney until Eisner ravaged the animation department those many years ago.http://progresscityusa.com/2010/01/21/off-the-shelf-the-velveteen-rabbit/
>>41021I don't know if I would have been able to handle that movie.
>>41021I'm crying at the mere mention of that book.
>>41021 Depending on when it came out it wouldn't have ended well. Especially with all these varied flues and such.
http://www.amazon.ca/Haunted-Mansion-Ghost-Will-Follow/dp/1593621736So, we're finally getting the never released final issue of the Haunted Mansion comic in a second paperback collection coming in March.
>>41165Just went into my LCS today to ask about ordering it. Owner already did it about a week ago when seeing it in the Diamond catalog, knowing I'd be interested in it.
http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2010/01/world-of-color-abbey-road/Goddamn, World of Color's version of Night on Bald Mountain is awesome.
I love this cover
http://www.newyorker.com/humor/2010/02/01/100201sh_shouts_rudnickGod dammit, New Yorker...
>>42120People read that slop?
>>42120>Porky PigThis made me rage more than anything else on the list.
>>42121Trendy Bullshit mag. I don't see the humor in that piece at all. I mean its all those retarded hipster jokes and some apparent "wit" that makes no damn sense
>>42120The worst fucking thing.
>>42120That is terrible and disgusting.Screw you, New Yorker.
>>42120Good lord
>>42121Unfortunately my dad does...
>>42128More like NEW FUCKER
>>42120"HI, WE'RE THE NEW YORKER! WE DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT EPIC MICKEY, SO LET'S MAKE BASELESS ASSUMPTIONS!"
>>42120FFFFFFFFFFFucking New Yorker...
>—When Mickey is shown starving to death after the nuclear disaster, and he eats Porky Pig, we feel that Porky should still be alive when his feet are removed.>PORKY PIGAHAHAHA WOW. NO, FUCK YOU, NEW YORKER
>>42120It's like the writer wants to provoke shock and awe, so he finds a sound effects keyboard and mashes all the keys to make a noise of scare chords. The content isn't even all that shocking or creative, and the repetition of "hurr so edgy grimndark" just gets BORING after a while. It's like Garth Ennis writing Crossed.
>>42181This is why I couldn't work up any ire in response to the article (apart from Porky's mention furrowing my brow). I suppose the writer could have intended to satirize the purpose behind Epic Mickey, which he seems dimly aware of, but it just comes across as the guy being under the impression that his dark 'n' edgy descriptions clashing with Mickey's everyman image is gold.
Fuck year, Up made it to Best Picture. And the funny thing is, I had Playing with the Big Boys Now from Prince of Egypt going on my iPod when I found out.
>>42272best animated or actual Best Picture?
>>42276Both
Funny, Up is now the second animated film ever to be nominated for Best Picture
>>42277damn that is impressive. Usually they have to decide on one or the other
>>42281No, movies in Best Animated are still eligible for Best Picture. It's just that the Academy looks down on animation and created the category as a means to have a "kiddy table"
>>42282Yea but I remember them having this conversation about Wall-E I believe and that it was a worry about splitting their votes or something.
Bad rumors surrounding "Rapunzel". Despite the fact that the film's debut is less than a year away, there, apparently, isn't enough finished footage of the main characters to cobble together a decent teaser yet. Worse still is a rumbling regarding a possible name change. Morale is rumored to be low.
>>42284Last I saw Alan Rosenfeld, he was excited to be working on the project. At least I think that's what he said. He didn't seem to be disappointed.
>>42278This was the first, right?
>>42272My face when I heard this news.
According to StitchKingdom, proposed renames for Rapunzel are including "The Thief and the Tower" and "The Hidden Tower"
>>42355fuckin why
>>42422Because Rapunzel will only get little girls to watch.A more generic name will clearly get a more generic audience.
Disney Sea is getting their own Fantasmic in 2011, replacing BraviSEAmo. Gonna be drastically different and interesting to see the end result considering it'll be in the round.
Another bit of Park News, but Disney World's doing their own Summer Nightastic thing this year. The Main Street Electrical Parade's going back to Magic Kingdom for the season, along with the Magic, Music and Mayhem fireworks show they made for the shortlived Pirates and Princess Parties (which features a great sequence of Captain Hook's ship attacking the castle)Tower of Terror will be getting a new drop sequence and effects for the season as well.
New Toy Story 3 trailer is out.Spot the reason for my file name.
