I get the feeling we'll be having a fair number of these...Old thread: >>82729
Appa died because Momo died.
Appa is still alive. Using a system of pulleys and levers, Sokka develops a cloning system to bring back sky bison. At first he's hesitant to leave Aang, who by this point knows his time is up. Cue the scene from Air Bud where the kid tries to get Buddy to leave, except with an elderly Aang and a confused Appa who leaves to join his new herd. On his deathbed, Aang is surrounded by his children and grand-children and all his friends and family. Something feels off without Appa. But just before he passes, a could of Bison descend from the sky, Appa has become herd leader, Aang smiles as his oldest friend nuzzles the old man's face one last time.
>>83436I am literally laughing out loud.
>>83436It was funny until it got to Toph, then it was hilarious.
Appa has undergone binary fission. There are now 1,073,741,824 of him.
So anyway, I think the 12 episode format sounds good. Especially since they seem to have a smaller cast this time (only three named characters). And yes, I'm pretty sure when he said 12 episode miniseries he meant it would have a conclusive ending by that point which would be the last thing set in that setting with that cast and not a 12 episodes season.
I'm a little sad there's only going to be 12 episodes...because I'm a greedy little bitch. But I guess it makes sense. What I want to know is how this whole "bending revolt" is going to go down, because every time I think of it....<-- that's all I'm picturing 8IShe's livin in the city...she's livin' the thug life...why nooottt.
I swear I read some fic that had nonbenders waging war on benders. Can't find it.
>>83450 I just thought of something did they all die young except for Roku? or was he the only one who did not get turned young after he died I say this as all the others when they were shown were in or right near their prime(or at least looked it) yet roku is an old guy this has likely already been discussed but I just noticed due to that picture( and I can not think of any time this theme was any different)
>>83453It's funny because Roku's like the only one who did die young in comparison.Kyoshi lived to be 230
>>83450 :) ....This is wonderful!>>83453 I thought they'd mentioned somewhere that Kyoshi lived for a long time, in the episode with Chin the Conqueror. Either that or I'm thinking of how she had huge feet.
>>83455 dang what is it with this board and foot fetishes
>>83451They see me bendin'they hatin'condescendin'and tryin' to catch me smashin' cabbages
>>83455>>83456She must have lived something like 200+ years for the timeline to fit. And yes, her feet were huge. This was a plot point.
ITT you all fail at math.we know Kyoshi is the longest living avatar at 230. but we don't know the variance of the distribution. most avatar could have died in their 40's.stop raging over minuscule details, you simpletons!
>>83453I think their appearance doesn't indicate how they looked like when they died, but it is the form they choose to take. So, Roku could have shown up as a teenage boy if he wanted, but he always took on the old guy persona.
Why does the kid before Toph look like movie Haru?
I think a 12-episode miniseries should be just fine. I will admittedly miss the 'flavor' episodes that were just filler and world flavor and not much else (like, say, Tales of Ba Sing Se, or SECRET TUNNEL) but those only really worked because ATLA was clearly a much broader story than Korra is intended to be. ATLA was the story of the entire world, travelling all over and getting a feel for it in full. Korra is about one specific place, and one specific situation.
>>83462I believe thats grandma Suki
>>83337 Brisk! Just like she likes it in the morning. As for the 12 episodes, I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I honestly wasn't expecting more than one season. The way the story was structured and such just seemed to limit what they could do. Still, it's a little sad that we'll get less than I was anticipating to begin with. Well... who knows, maybe they'll want to do more in the world after this. I hope.
>>83467 the good thing about tv is that there's always the possibility of more
This is the best news I've heard all year. I can't believe they're doing everything exactly the way I've envisioned the time after Aang for years. They're even doing the main character I wanted.
Has any new infomation surfaced yet?
You know, 12 episodes isnt that bad all things considerd. Its about half a regular season. If it had been somthing like 6 episodes I would of been worried but 12 is enough for a strong story, so long as they avoid filler as best they can.
>anti-bender uprising>70 years later>Steampunk worldthings I expect- guns- Steampunk Cyborg Combustion man- Ozai is the mastermind
I'm not worried about the 12 episode thing. But then, since its been over two years since we had any new episodes at all, I'll take what I can get!But I am disappointed to hear they'll be cutting back on the filler. To me, those episodes really helped to flesh out the Avatar world. If the main episodes were bricks, then episodes like The Beach or Avatar Day were the mortar. I trust Mike and Bryan to make these a great 12 episodes though. And I trust the fans to make the new series popular enough to get picked back up for more episodes. I wonder if we'll see any more past Avatars. Though I have no idea why Korra would need to talk to Avatars that old. Unless Republic City is built upon an ancient secret. Please let there be ancient secrets.
>>83473They probably had guns 20 years after powered by firebending.
If theres guns, wee need to see these.
Someone on /co/ had the brilliant idea of Republic City as "Exaggerated 20s New York">"Watch your moxie, sport, because I ain't about to tip my fedora to any crazy dame who says she's the Avatar, dig? The name's Tenzin, with a capital T, like trouble. Now let's jitterbug.">"So you'se the Avatar, huh? All that and a nickel will getcha to Fifth Street here in Republic City.">"Cram a cabbage in it, sport, we're here for information. Don't insult me by asking for a dollar - here's a quarter and there's another in it for you if you can tell me where I can find the nearest speakeasy.">"I know youse, you're that Tenzin feller everyone's talkin' about. What's a straight-laced guy like you want with a speakeasy?">"Zip that lip, kiddo, my business is my business. Now gimme an address and make like a crocodile sandwich.">"Ninth and Dragon, but, ehhhhh... you didn't hear dat from me.">"What do you want, a medal? Here's your spondulics, now am-scray. C'mon, baby-doll, if you're gonna learn airbending any time this century, we better get a wiggle on. Twenty-three skidoo!">"Now see here, Mr. Tenzin, I ain't one of your two-dollar Kyoshi floozies! I'm the Avatar, so keep your peepers off my gams!">"Cripes! The dame's got claws like a komodo rhino! Put 'em away, sister, I get your jive.">"Believe it, buster. Now straighten up that tie and try to look presentable. Cabs wouldn't stop for a man in your condition.">"Hey now! I'll go three rounds with you any time, sister, just lay off the suit! If I dressed any sharper, you'd cut yourself! Now slap a smile on that pretty little face - we've got work to do."
>>83478As much as I would love 20's Avatar the slang would not be accessible enough for a kid's show.
I'm hoping less episodes means they might have a bigger budget to play around with, and the animation will be even better than it was in the original series.
>>83478Man, that would be awesome.
>>83479It would be great if, say, one character had the accent/slang. Sort of like the Cabbage Merchant. He shows up, gives tips, then everyone looks around and says "I have no idea what he was talking about."
For those who don't know who the other characters are (like me!), apparently this is Fang from FF13 and Yoruichi from Bleach.
>>83486
>"M'yeah see... these benders have been twistin' around this city for too long, see? Mugsy, Fat Cho, go -m'yeah- straighten 'em out.">"Looks like we're in a jam, sweetcakes! Make with that Avatar mojo before we're shredded like a nickel's worth of cabbage!">"I shoulda known you'd be nothing but hot air, Mr. Tenzin!">"Now ain't the time to discuss my detachment from earthly concerns and violence - just bust some heads!"
Well, I'm sure someone could have done it better, but here is my contribution for now...
Judge me by my size do you?
>>83498That's friggin' awesome. Toph is by far the old person I'm looking most forward to.

>>83486>>83487>>83500The verdict is in: Korra is going to be rolling in more bitches then Sokka even dreamed of!
>>83502Ohhh, Yoruichi. I didn't recognize her with her hair down. Lol. Thanks, anon.
Another chibi sketch!
>>83505They sure aren't planning on going into much detail at this point, are they? I'm guessing we won't even see her face in full detail until a year from now. Good to know that she doesn't have anything too surprising, though. Kinda sad at the same time...
>>83506Oh, they'll show her face sooner than that. Perhaps at the next New York Comic Con.If there's a Korra panel, I'm so there.
>>83508As I suspected.
>>83509Which would be lovely, or maybe even some stuff at anime Boston 8DI really want an animal spirit guide. I'm assuming she'll have one, but no idea, what do you guys think? (or at least can she have some kind of giant polar pet and struggle trying to hide it in the city!?)?
:O

Also, DEM GOGGLES
>>83508 Koh was here. Korra is a loser.
>>83514Pulp Fiction and Avatar.....as one....My heart is greatly satisfied by this.
I wonder what Aang will look like in the Spirit World. Roku looked kind of old, but all the other past Avatars we see seem to be pretty young when we see them in the finale.>Thinks about Korra learning from bad-A 30-something Aang
>>83511She needs some sort of polar wolf-dog type thing. We only saw one wolf in the whole series, and it was in the Spirit World. I mean, the Water Tribe has all this wolf-related armor, hairstyles, etc, but we never actually see any wolves? That always bugged me.
>>83511>>83524In the artbook, they kind of hint that we'll be seeing this polar bear-dog (I'd post a scan but I'm too lazy) thing at some point. They had originally designed it for Aang, but it got put aside. So yeah...
Ever since the announcement of Korra and the realization of Aang's (somewhat) premature demise, I sometimes speculate that his death was a political assassination by the anti-benders.The chorus of this 50 cent song pops in my head every time I think of this.Herp.
Maritova, if there is ANYTHING you need EVER, I am here to serve. Thanks for bringing us some wonderful (preemptive) Korra fanart.
>>83513It is ironic because she can bend all the elements EXCEPT air. Or is this a case of thatsthejoke.jpg?
>>83563Were is the Irony? Air is last in the cycle, and masters of it are probably thin on the ground.
>>83512My pic for best so far. I hope when she turns around she looks like this.
>>83505Joaquim Dos Santos, I assume.
>>83565Because Hella Korra says she can move the air, but what information we have available to use says that she CAN'T move air, since she hasn't learned airbending yet and has to have Tenzin teach it to her.
Older!Tyzula! :3
>>83572
I hope to God Bryke throws in a character named "Zuta" or "Tara"
>>83505
>>83582Or just straight up Zutara. A kid who's the child of a renowned fire bender and a renowned water bender, but not capable of either.
Oh Liesl <3
>>83582There should be just a passing mention of a weird cult in republic city that worship something called Zutar. Everyone thinks they're crazy and makes a point to avoid them.
Or maybe there's a passing mention (maybe from Tenzin) of how there were these persistent rumors of Katara shacking up with Zuko and how some Avatar-world version of tabloids was all over it...
Hopefully they won't do something like thatMost of them have already sworn to not watch Korra anyway because of their ship bullshit, and while I fully expect the Korra boycott to last about as long as the movie boycott, the less Zutards have to go into their psychotic bitch rants the better
>>83592>I fully expect the Korra boycott to last as long as the movie boycottlolwut? The point of the boycott on the movie was to not pay for it, not never see it. Pirating and distrubuting only help that cause. Zutarans technically lose out the moment they see it, whether illegally or not.Are they actually calling for a boycott? They'd said the same shit about the actual show.
>>83582That sounds like the perfect name for a low level thug that Korra is constantly Batman Backfisting.
>>83589
Firenation war->Zuko establishes elemental republic->Four nations meet there like a UN -> Four nations resolve that bending ain't all that badass shit no more -> Korra.
>>83589 ...NoI see this happening.Bryke: "Oh look people, we're might put Korra with a passionate firebender"Zutarians: YAY!!Bryke: "Yep. and he's a Zuko/Mai descendant" >: DMike and Bryan were great at throwing Zutarians shit covered bones.
>>83522My theory was along the lines of Roku's shame left him unable to manifest as the peak of his power...But the Water-born Avatar seemed pretty youthful...then again we don't know how long he happened to live...so uh...whatever...Guess they just wanted a sage old master type for Roku.
>>83603Oh man, that'd be awesome.Of course, the only problem is that, Mai being a non-bender, there's no way to prove beyond a shadow of a Zutarian doubt that Maiko McFirepants isn't Zuko and Katara's secret lovechild. I'd anticipate a dozen fics titled "Hidden Water" or "The Secret of Steam" all about this guy discovering his true heritage, fucking Korra just because of fire/water opposite elementals, spirit!Aang being a question-avoiding douche who eventually reveals his nature as an abusive husband to Katara, and a million more hits and reviews than any other Korra fanfic from all the mass-promoting from Zutara LJ comms.
>>83605Please, no more...no more. Don't give those crazy bastards any ideas.
>>83605That thought should have just been depressing, but for some reason came off as amusingly pathetic.
>>83611GOD YESI love you guys, so damn much.
I've been thinking. What's all this grandma Toph talk?Powerful earthbenders live a really long time. Bumi was more than 110, Kiyoshi lived to be 230. Toph was on track to be more powerful than Bumi, and if power corresponds to age, she might hit the 150s and above.Which would mean that 70 years later, at 82, she'd just barely be leaving middle age. If older Toph shows up I expect her to still be looking pretty good. And by good, I mean hot.
>>83622Them living that long doesn't necessarily mean they age slower. Bumi looks about his age (besides being extremely muscular), yet didn't seem to close to dying of old age. Also, the lifespan thing definitely isn't directly related to being a powerful bender. Not that she couldn't live to be really old like they did, but it's not a guarantee.
Goddamnit, I want a giant fuzzy spirit guide and I don't care if Korra is from the Water Tribe! Water Tribe peolpe can have giant wolf-bear pet things.....amIright?
>>83623Kiyoshi seems to have aged slowly, if her appearances are anything to go by. Then again, it could just be her makeup.
>>83626We never saw her when she was old, though. Truthfully, her age was never outright mentioned in the series, it's outside fluff, albeit official outside fluff. Maybe they just never considered Kyoshi doing anything relating to Aang when she was old?
>>83626Maybe she was into Qidong and alchemy...
>>83629Correct. The one time we saw her when she was alive it was when she split Kyoshi Island off from the mainland about 370 year ago and she lived to be 230.Take 230 and add Aang's chronological age at that time (112) and Roku's age when he died (about 70? I'm not sure if that was exactly stated, but it sounds about right) which means means she was born about 412 years ago. Thus we saw her when she was about 42; certainly too young to be visibly elderly with all that makeup on.Also, just want to check:http://biz.viacom.com/sites/nickelodeonpress/Nicktoons/Pages/showpdf.aspx?FileName=Legend%20of%20Korra%20Announcement.pdf&ListName=Press%20Releases&ItemID=70This is the announcement that was already posted, right?
>>83633Yeah, that PDF just has the same info that all the initial articles have been reposting.
I come bearing gifts of information!I was lucky enough to meet Mike and Bryan at this year's Comic Con. I had time for 2 questions. Question 1: I asked them if there would be guns in Korra, due to the presence of steampunk. They said "No, we want to avoid going down that road as much as possible."No guns!Question 2 (non Korra):I asked them about the possibility of a blu-ray release for ATLA. They said there would be far too much work to pull off a blu-ray release. They said not to wait for it because it probably wont happen.
>>83638Thanks for sharing. Interesting to see how they aren't getting guns in Republic City though it'd be a great davantage for anti-benders.
>>83641It would be a HUGE disadvantage. Also, its probably due to the show being on Nick.Bending blast to the face = fall downGunshot to the face = brains everywhere
>>83641I would imagine the anti benders specializing in the same fighting style that Ty Lee uses. She was pretty effective against most benders.
>>83604I suspect Avatars can choose the form in which they manifest, but it's a one-time-only deal in the instant of their death, since they'll fuse into grand Avatar Spirit mush and become a completely different person a few moments later. So if something interferes, Avatars can get stuck manifesting at an age they wouldn't otherwise prefer. Kuruk could be mentally stuck at the moment his wife was stolen, for example, and because Roku died violently and prematurely with his life's work unfinished, he's stuck as he was at the moment of his death.Kyoshi probably died peacefully in her sleep, so she had all the time in her death bed to reflect on her life and choose the youthful form she took when she created Kyoshi Island.
>>83646That'd be interesting to see, as it was implied in the finale that Ty Lee was going to teach her chi-blocking techniques to Kyoshi Warriors. It'd be crazy to have a former Kyoshi being one anti-bender leader.
>>83649>>83638So instead of guns, people get proded in the neck? Thats lame.
>>83649That would be SO SAD for Kyoshi. She creates the Dai Li in Ba Sing Se to protect the cultural heritage. Then, after a tyrant threatens some lands, she creates an island in which warriors, in her image, defend the island. Later, the Dai Li become corrupt and then the Kyoshi Warriors are the tree from which the blossom of anti-bending evil grows?
>>83644 Are you high? Guns are amongst about the best way to kill a bender, from a distance before they even know you're targetting them. Obviously bows or other long ranged weapons fall into this attack plan as well.Being forced to rush into melee against people like that is a terrible situation in comparison.
>>83655advantage for anti-benders, disadvantage for benders, obviously
I'm perfectly okay with there being no guns in the new show.>>83636I like the art in this, but why is Tenzin so young? Am I missing all the middle aged Tenzin art?

A bit more information!http://community.livejournal.com/legendofkorra/3910.html>Dee Bradley Baker [Voice of Momo and Appa] came and did a whole bunch of animal sounds and talked a bit about Korra. He will be a part of that production but, understandably, could offer no other details. Well, actually, he did mention a few things, like that one of the Korra episodes had been recorded already, and that the new voice actor cast is full-stop awesome, but that was it.
Speaking of the VAs, it's been years since the show started, what are the chances of Zach Tyler Eisen reprisng his role as Aang, at least for flashbacks? I really wanna get a mental image for how a grown Aang sounds.

THERE'S REALLY ONLY ONE THAT MAKES SENSE-- >YES, OBVIOUSLY THE ONLY REASON CAN BE THAT SHE'S BEING RUTHLESSLY SEXED UP BY URSA (STILL ALIVE DUH) AND KYA (FAKED HER DEATH BECAUSE THAT'S HOW SHE ROLLS) AND JUN (BECAUSE SHE'S LIKE THE GANDALF OF SUPERHOT LADIES IN BONDAGE LEATHER AND WHIPS; SHE GOES WHEREVER SHE'S NEEDED BB) AND SO SHE'S A LITTLE BUSY TO HAVE HER MAGIC KUNG-FU ADVENTURES RECORDED FOR OUR VIEWING PLEASURE.

oh christ
I don't know how I feel about a lot of this Tenzin art. It seems too Aang and not enough Katara. I mean I know he's an Airbender and all, but it just makes me imagine Aang declaring "THANK YOU KATARA FOR BEING THE PASSIVE VESSEL WITH WHICH I CAN REBUILD MY PEOPLE."
>>84024Agreed. I find most Tenzin drawings are forgetting:A) Tenzin should have a skin shade at least close to other WT people.B) Tenzin is an Airbending master, he would probably have some tattoos too.
>>84030Not to mention he should probably be in his 40's or 50's
>>84030 and since he isn't an air nun, NO FREAKING HAIR.
And while we're bitching about the fan concepts of Tenzin... too many blue eyes. I thought it's well-established that airbenders have gray eyes.
>>84046I don't think all of them have gray eyes. And his mother was a Waterbender anyway. In the Fire Nation they don't all have gold eyes, green and gray and brown can be seen too. Same with Earth Kingdom. I can't remember if there was anyone in the Water Tribe that had eyes that weren't blue except Hama, but I think the same rule applies.
I'm kind of hoping for Tenzin to be a burly old manly-man, whose airbending is more agressive and direct than Aang's, which caused a falling out between the two before he died. But that's just my 2 cents.
>>84049 tis true that their were not enough true beards in the series other than ozais little point the only GOOD beards were oneshot characters a mysterious man of great power and wisdom seen in the fire nation(if you can not guess who this is you need to reassess your priorities)and iroh
I keep hearing theories that this is going to be a tech-vs-bending conflict... and because of that I really want to see Korra, while not a full-blown gearhead, possessing a fair bit of technological proficiency herself (maybe she took a corrospondance course at Kyoshi Polytechnic).Just one scene or situation where she is in a deathtrap or other situation she cannot affort to bend her way out of (at least by brute force) being ended when she shuts the sucker down and asks why they thought she did not know this stuff would suffice.
>>84066You need to remember what Action Hank taught us.
I hope this show is in HD and widescreen. That's pretty standard for shows these days, right?
Sort of news:http://fierymonk.deviantart.com/journal/33888908/Giancarlo Volpe, one of the directors for the old show, isn't involved in Korra, but according to him Sifu Kisu is:>I'm really excited to hear Nickelodeon has green lit "The Legend of Korra"! I will always hold a special place in my heart for the Avatar universe, and I'll be excited to see what new adventures Mike and Bryan will be cooking up. >I've been getting a lot of questions lately about my involvement on the show: but I'm sad to say it will be none. >The truth of the matter is I currently have a job - one that I can't publicly announce just yet. I finished on Clone Wars in March of 2010, and have been spearheading a new project which I will be sure to post on deviantart as soon as I get my company's go ahead to do so.>But have no fear, I am positive that Korra will be better than ever, with Mike and Bryan at the helm, Joaquim, Ryu, Kisu, the Track Team, and JM animation's involvement. I can't wait to see it!>-Giancarlo
>>84104Also this:>JM animationI wonder if it will be just them since there are less episodes.Although I never really noticed that big a difference between the ones they animated and the ones Moi animated.
I'm already hoping the non-benders win.I'm also reacting negatively to Korra simply because everyone seems to be jizzing over her. I always feel silly when this happens, but I can't seem to stop it. I'm sure she'll be fine, though.
>>84219
>>84246Nice, but it's looking a tad jaggy. Try this one on for size. :)

what if. Tenzin is the villain.he killed his father and is now out to destroy bending.
>>84287People and spirits would constantly be giving Aang shit about being too carefree and raising Tenzin without boundries. This would also happen to Korra a lot. "Kids need structure. This is what happens when they don't get it.""For the last time, I am NOT his dad!"

It's the next generation. So it's really cool. It's the same producers. It's the same brilliant attention to detail and I'm very excited. Right now we are just making twelve of them and we'll see what happens. All of the gaan members are dead at this point. Not surprising, but I was at least hoping for old!Toph
>>84454>no cool old people!gaangWhat the fuck are you doing, Avatar Staff?
I...I...;_;
:[Though the fact that she said 75 years instead of 70 is just enough deviation for me to stubbornly believe that this is all wrong. :P
>>84454It's a shame, but at the same time I'm glad. This is Korra's story, not Aang's. Besides, this doesn't mean we won't get flashbacks or anything from Tenzin, he had to know them growing up.
Noooo! Grandma Toph! My dreams are shattered!Okay, well, it's a shame. I would still not be surprised if Bumi were around though.
Cheer up, Emo Anonymous
I'm........I'm so sad :( No firelord Zuko that's old yet completely awesome and badass. It would have been great to see him and korra talk. No Katara.....who is Korras waterbender Sifu.....No Toph or Sokka....*Gets into a ball and cries*:(
Who the fuck carries on the Order of the White Lotus if the Gaang doesn't? Avatar requires crazy awesome cool old people.
>>84454> I don't know how much of the series I'm allowed to tell youHopefully they're just covering there ass here. I'm sure we'll see Aang at the very least fulfilling some kind of Roku role. As for the rest of the old cast, my fingers are crossed I guess.
Well, think of it this way. They're all up in Karate Heaven were they practice Judo flips all day by the fruit punch waterfall and laze about in peace.
>>84454I believe it was a poorly thought out cover story.. Something to get us to stop asking questions. "They're all dead." seems like FAR too much information to give out to us, especially since people higher in power have been careful not to say anything more than "Of course Aang is dead." They also explained that Aang is dead because he used up extra Avatar time in the ice burg. The others lived normal lives, they didn't use up any extra time. I'm sure we still have a good chance of seeing at least one of them.
I don't buy it. I expect missinformation or just a badly worded scentence. On the other hand, I do expect some of them to have passed away by the time the show starts.
Yeah, I'm inclined to think something of the sort.Mike and Bryan should announce just the number of the Gaang that are still around, so we can endlessly speculate who they are.
YES! This pleases me, because you all guys were so worked up in nonsense such as having the old cast being Korra's bending teachers. That's too much of a "buff" advantage, it's predictable, lame and that's not how the Avatar rolls. This series is about Tenzin and Korra, it'd be a shame to see their character development neglected.
I really hope they don't come out and say everyone's dead at the outset. If the show goes beyond 12 episodes, I think there would be room for the olds to be gracefully inserted into the plot somewhere. Though I definitely agree that they shouldn't spend too much of their small amount of time reminiscing about how cool the previous show was.
So I missed the bit about Tenzin, but from what I can gather he's Aang's descendant, yes?
>>84484Tenzin is Aang and Katara's son
And Tenzin's the only link we need to the old Gaang.Death is just an illusion. Remember.
After thinking about this more... I realized I feel a bit like a Zutaran. "No, they can't do this to us!"I am so ashamed of myself. I'm letting go of my rage and I'm going to accept that Korra will be awesome no matter what vision Mike and Bryan take.
Not too upset by the passing of the previous cast.Anything avoiding the old spock reappearance from the Star Trek movie is A-ok by me.
>>84481>This series is about Tenzin and KorraAnd Meelo! Don't forget Meelo!...whoever the fuck Meelo is...I'm pretty sure she didn't mean everyone died, but whatever the case, they're definitely not going to be around. This is a fresh start, a return to first principles, a brand spanking new look at the Avatar universe. Having old characters around is just going to make it feel cluttered and weighted down. It needs to be its own beast....that way we get new viewers in and the fandom cycle can begin all over again.
>>84454>that whole generation has diedI REFUSE TO BELIEVE IT. ;_;
>>84454OP's pic is now a Funny Aneurysm Moment.
>>84508D:
I for one am glad that the Gaang are all dead. I'd much rather have a clean break from the old series (or as clean a break as you can get in a series where the main character talks to his or her previous lives, anyway)
>>84505So do you think that all died peacefully in their sleep, or perhaps some were killed off in the anti-bending movement? Also, I thought of a new idea for how they might troll Zutarans. You remember Cabbage Merchant and how he was occasionally spotted every once in a while? Why not have a canon Firenation-Water Tribe married couple? Except they're both extremely bitter and grumpy people who hate each other. It'd make sense in the setting, since all 4 nationalities live together in Republic City, and since its a a small miniseries, they could probably have like a short scene every 3-4 episodes and get away with it.
I'm trying to wrap my head around how can a city this big and this developed came to be.
>>84522http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DubaiSimple, somehow they acquired a way to make a LOT of money, and spent it on making their town not suck.
>>84518>I for one am glad that the Gaang are all dead.Blasphemy.
>>84523The way Dubai's going, it'll be a deserted forest of shimmering stalks being reclaimed by the desert in the next couple decades. It's a feudal Las Vegas built on debt and serfdom. This is a far better example:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SingaporeBuilt on a confluence of three radically different cultures, rich from trade and industry, an independent city state at the crossroads of Asia.Just don't try to chew gum there.
>>84529>Just don't try to chew gum there. What happens if you do?
>>84532You grow nipples on your hands.
>>8453They value their city's cleanliness.I shall say no more on the matter.
>>84454I'd by lying if I said I was _happy_ (No Grandma Toph? Cue Wibble) and given the number of Fearsome Old Masters in A:tLA having _all_ the Gaang dead of old age in 70 years comes off as a mild copout, but I can see the need to make sure this focuses on the new kid rather than serve as a reunion of people that could probably spike the problem with ease.>>84522Probably started around an agreed neutral treaty/trade port. then lots of migrants and money going into building up infrastructure. Odds are Aang help set up a showpiece locale to demonstrate that living/working together without domination can work.
I'm still not believing it. If the series had been set 100+ years in the future, that might make sense, but to have the whole Gaang dead in 70 years? NO and DO NOT WANT.
Death is an illusion.I rather have a new start than dragging characters around as in the Star Wars EU.Maybe this time we can try to teach new fans not to ruin the show for themselves and avoid shipping wars!
>>84554>I rather have a new start than dragging characters around as in the Star Wars EU. That doesn't mean you have to kill all the old characters off.>Maybe this time we can try to teach new fans not to ruin the show for themselves and avoid shipping wars!Too late for that.
>stubborn>delusional >crybabiesA lot of Zootarians on here.
Why is everyone going on about the gaang dying young? If my math's correct, eveyone lived to be somewhere between 66-85 years old (unless a few of them died before Aang did, which wouldn't surprise me) That's not bad at all.I mean, it's not like they died in their late 20s.
>>84559Nobody said anything about them dying young, we're disappointed that they're all already dead. We have no idea what their lives were like, just that they're all over, and that's kinda depressing.
Pic so very related.
>>84559But look at Bumi and Kyoshi. Granted, the two of them were extraordinary people. Still, I think some of us were inferring that at the very least perhaps Earthbenders were long lived. Grandma Toph, all that.
The only reason that game gets a bad rap is because they went out of their way to staple so much of chrono trigger to it. (Oh, and also the ending is too wordy) Same with Korra. If they have Korra stand on its own (and not end it with three pages of exposition) it can be great.Besides I love Chrono Cross, so many fun characters, extensive awesome plot, and what might be the best damn game score ever made.
>>84571Forgot my vid. Related.
>my face when why the old gaang all died is never explained.
>>84571>so many fun charactersToo many more like. No standard non-tactical RPG needs 42 unlockable characters. Especially when you can only play 3 at a time for no adequately explained reason. There were so many that they couldn't even fit in dialogue for all of them, they had to create an 'accent system' to differentiate them. In effect, you never saw the characters again once they joined your party. It might as well have been the "Sergei and Kid Show", and I would've been absolutely fine with that, I liked those two. And I liked them precisely because through thick and thin we got to know those two intimately. It looks like that's going to be the path Korra takes as well, since we've seen very, very few characters up to now at a time when they should've been front and centre. The cast was getting pretty unwieldy by the end of Airbender, but so far we have Korra as the lead, Meelo as the trusty sidekick and Tenzin as the mentor, a very manageable setup that should allow us to really grow to love these people.(Also, Chrono Trigger's combat system was a model of elegant simplicity. Chrono Cross's was impenetrable nonsense, I couldn't get my head around it)>what might be the best damn game score ever madeNo disagreement there, the atmosphere was terrific.
I maintain that the Suikoden games were the only games to do the '10 billions characters' thing right.
>>84583See, I just like the replay value of getting new chars in new game+. Plus I'm a fiend for sidequesting, which Chrono Cross had no shortage of.Confusing battle system? You use multiple physical attacks, which charges your elemental attacks when they hit. Easy as pie.Now dance with the lizard!
Chrono Cross was the Seed Destiny of that game series.
>>84605>Confusing battle system? You use multiple physical attacks, which charges your elemental attacks when they hit. Easy as pie. Now, see, that would have made my gaming experience monumentally easier, because at no point can I remember anyone explaining this in-game.But it still felt unwieldy and strenuous, even when everything went fine. Experimentation is definitely appreciated and something to be encouraged, but it's not good in and of itself unless it improves the experience. In this case it didn't.Now go bounce yourself down the Termina steps. This is a Korra thread!
>>84607 Ow, harsh!
No need to argue over the little details that made CC what it was. No one cares about what elemental battle interface Thirty Sue Pileup whatever. The general point was that something that tries to tie itself to a previous work but then pisses all over it is bound to kill appeal with new and old members of the fanbase. Announcing that everyone is quite prematurely dead (even if this was not verified, I WANT TO BELIEVE) is the equivalent of Lucca dying in a fire and the original CT timeline becoming totally invalidated.Besides, there's NOTHING wrong with re-introducing a beloved character from a previous series as a cameo (NOT a primary) role. You guys seem to be under the impression that the remnants of the original Gaang either have to hog all the limelight or be completely dead and out of the picture.
>>84639Not always successful. Pic related.
And the final version.
Some new info about the musichttp://www.ugo.com/tv/the-legend-of-korra-music-update
>>84745>they wanted the environment of this big city to influence the music of it. I think I remember Bryan mentioning industrial or somehow it sounded like we might be able to use some of our electronic...know how or whatever...to enter it into some the score, which sounded pretty cool.>There's also something about referencing the sort of feeling of the roaring 20's because it's sort of around that period I guess.>It sort of sounds like it's going to be around the industrial revolution.>Right, and so it's like, how do you use the Roaring Twenties with an Asian feel? It'll be an interesting challenge. That's one of the ideas that have been thrown on the table. Who knows what will actually happen in the end, but it was one of things that Bryan mentioned and seemed like an interesting idea. It's not like these traditional instruments will be abandoned but I'm sure the instrumentation will be different.YESSS :D
>>84745>Zuckerman: I think we start post-production early next year. The cool thing is that it's going to be twelve episodes...>Patches: Right, only a mini series.Korra confirmed for mini-series? :(

>>84784And also a seething pressure cooker of racial and ideological tension that involved every major political player of the interwar period quadruple-crossing each other. >>83436 Oh wow OP's image is now more right than ever, except Toph dies too
I think the huge JUMP in culture might jarr me a bit until I see the show itself. I felt that Avatar was closer to the Enlightenment Age (1700s) than the Gilded Age (late 1900s and early 20th).
>>84725Did anyone else first see this face as a deformed one-eyed monocled offset nose huge mustache man face? Can't unsee!
>>84829Dear god I can't unsee it.In other news, a few more ATLA storyboarders confirmed to be coming back:http://ibgraham.deviantart.com/journal/34102742/>In 2 weeks, I will be starting my new job on, “Legend of Korra”, the new Avatar the Last Airbender project at Nickelodeon, as the Storyboard Supervisor. I am super excited about this!!! I will be working with my old friends and amazingly talented master minds Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino along with my personal idols, Joaquim Dos Santos and Ryu Ki Hyun. I think the work load will be heavy, so, I will do my best to post, but, it will probably be sparse. So, wish me luck and off I go onto another adventure.
>>84829Holy shit, it's Nietzche!!!
What if "The Legend of Korra" is successfull enough to span merchandise... like a toy line?Imagine the main character NOT getting an action figure because "boys don't play with female figures"...
>>84859They'd probably make her a little girly dolly instead. Fucking Mattel.
>>84859More likely than not there just won't be one. I don't think the action figure line was even that successful, thus why there was only one set made.
I'd love to have ATLA or ALOK resin kits, ffs. Asian market gets resin kits for random stuff like some random illo some random mangaka made of a random OC, meanwhile we can't even get a decent "action figure" toy line? Some people are just oblivious to merchandising tactics. I can't believe Bryke had to convince their superiors to release an Appa plush doll because they didn't think it was profitable. It's in the artbook I'm not making it up.

>>85211Unfortunately, this is mostly just going to get complains from people about stuff they only heard happened.
Why is everyone taking the word of a single voice actor as gospel anyway. Do you actually think they've actually had the entirety of the plot and story already laid out for them?
She's not a simple voice actor, she's the voice director, probably the person who knows more about the characters after the main writers. They did at least three episodes, I think she has already chosen most of the actors for the roles.Still, I dont' think she was meaning the whole gaang is dead.
>>85246 >Still, I dont' think she was meaning the whole gaang is dead. Either way you look at it, "the whole generation being dead" means that there isn't going to be any focus on the old gaang. So people looking forward to seeing "old!Toph" kicking ass is probably going to end up disappointed.

>>85551>got frozen in a block of iceLike father like son, amirite?
>>85555I can see it now: Aang, wanting to start up some family/Air Nomad traditions, puts his kids in an iceberg for a day once they reach a certain age, and when he turns his back for a moment a giant wave sends poor cryonically suspended Tenzin out to sea.
>>85558For that matter, an attack by Antibenders comes and Katara and Aang realize that their kid is in danger, so they intentionally freeze him in an iceberg, planning to release him later once the danger is passed. Oh hey! Some more info!http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2010/08/voice-of-a-geek-an-interview-with-dee-bradley-bakerRelevant part:>Right now (my) kids are working through Nickelodeon’s Avatar series, which I’m very proud of and which – it’s something that’s really important to me: Clone Wars means a lot to me, and Avatar means a lot to me too – I did all the creatures in that. Well, the new Avatar, they put out an audition and they wanted a flashback for the younger Avatar – who is now a girl – from when she was this little fireball five-year-old. I had my 10-year-old audition for it, and it was just two sentences, and, well, my five-year-old said, “Daddy, I want to audition. I want to try this, too,” and so I let her give it a shot. And she booked it. And the name of the series is The Last Airbender: The Journey of Korra – and my daughter’s name is Cora. It was just kind of an odd serendipity. To have her involved, with her playing a namesake, the heroic character of the show, that’s pretty cool. Pretty wonderful.>(Note: Nickelodeon announced the spinoff will be called The Legend of Korra in a July 21 press release, and Baker has confirmed he’s working on it, too.)

It's Legend of Korra fanart, without the Korra:>Ooooh, k, so I decided to do some future avatar world designs...I thought it would be fun, and I'm super excited about The Legend of Korra! The series seems like it's going to be interesting! >So the top, i guess, is an earth bending noble girl, beside that is sketches of an older katara (like my other piece), below that is a waterbender (swamp inspired) who may live in the Republic City thus the goggles (apparently the city is going to be kind of steam punk) and beside that is two fire nation princesses.>underneath are two sort of airbender nomads.

http://ibgraham.deviantart.com/journal/34634280/>This was my first week on Korra and I can tell you right now that Korra will not dissapoint! It is amazing!! Everyone involved is so talented It makes me realize I need to up my game. With so much great work around me it should not be a problem. Now, I can not talk about the story on any level but I can say It is gonna be A GREAT RIDE! Mike and Bryan have a true vision for The Legend of Korra and I am so proude to be a part of it. My first Day was more about setting up my office ,learning the show and Reading the scripts but soon after that I was droped into a heavy workload. It is nice to work with my old friends and to be back at Nick after 2 years away. This is also the first time I have worked directly with blacksataguni and let me say he is as nice as he is talented, A true master of his craft.
>>85897>blacksataguniWait, the animator who did that awesome aang/jet fight? Wow.

The story behind this one is that koalakitty23 had an Airbender OC named Tenzin a long while before LoK was announced.
>>86401It's official, Korra is the most popular character in the Avatar universe. We've only had one piece of promo art so far, which doesn't even show her face, and she gets a billion fanarts PLUS cosplay now! Amazing.
why D:
>>86413>>Why?Because airbending. Get it?
