For you lucky people who got to attend a pre-screening...
Thoughts?

I thought the guy who voiced Fozzie sounded a little bit...off. I could be a bit of a Muppet puritan, though. Also, I loved the shout-outs to the previous films.

It's been said before, but damn it, there needs to be an audio commentary done entirely by Statler and Waldorf.

You know, if this was used as the jumping-off point for a new Muppet Show... where would it air? It seems a bit "mature" for Disney Channel, but I can't see ABC being a great fit either.

Maybe it would air on them both?

Are you talking about Muppets Tonight?

That show had problems of its own.

Saw it today. Loved it even though I've only so far seen a couple Muppet movies. I laughed really loud at the Sweedish Chef torching all his old food.
>> No. 30637
Also, something interesting I had pointed out to me. Tex Richman actually had some sort of inability to laugh (that's why he kept Deadly and Bobo around). In the credits he's shown laughing after the head injury, so him giving back the theater may not have just been brain damage.

Can you believe Disney thought it would be beneficial to the movie to put the kibosh on those?

I saw this a week or so ago and totally forgot to say that it was amazingly good. So much of it is all in the execution, with about a gazillion winks to the audience and a message of "nobody cares about logic here; just shut up and enjoy it". I really want to see it again.

I've been waiting for a new show for at least five years. They have to be thinking about it. The Muppets are clearly still ridiculously beloved by pretty much everyone in the country and the media--what other puppets can go on modern serious news programs and be treated like they're actual people? Pretty much just Sesame Street characters, and it's only on a technicality that they're not part of the Muppets anymore themselves.

I didn't realize that was possible, so reposting in cause it was the case here for some.

Could this be a Henson General then?

There's a documentary on Caroll Spinney in the works now, "I am Big Bird", much like the Kevin Clash one that came out recently "Being Elmo"

Speaking of Kevin Clash- Was it just me, or was it a bit odd that he wasn't featured in The Muppets at all?

Clifford is actually older than Pepe. Having him show up in the same kind of cameo appearance would have worked fine. Is it a Disney vs. CTW thing?
>> No. 32388
>>32387
Probably the demanding schedule that puppeteering Elmo brings kept him out of it. Though there were plans at one point for an Elmo cameo as one of the celebrities Kermit tried bringing aboard for the show.
>> No. 32391
The way I look at it, I could see Kermit getting away with some semi-raunchy joke in a movie, Elmo can't. It's also an issue of the kind of humor they want to use.
>> No. 32398
If I Remember Correctly, The Scene was planned as akin to this.

Movie ignored a lot of the post-Manhattan franchise. Hell, Bobo and Pepe only got in because they're among the few really popular characters of the post-Henson stuff and Big Mean Carl only managed to sneak in what with being a monster that fits in well with the old crowd. As great as the movie was, Segel comes off as a "MUPPET SHOW AND ORIGINAL TRILOGY MASTER RACE" fan when looking at the writing and stuff.
>> No. 32449

Well they wanted to speak to what most people remember as good with Muppets. When the next movie comes we'll see how that possible favoritism goes and what's included.

But... A Muppet Family Christmas!
>> No. 32453
I thought Manhattan was crap compared to Christmas Carol honestly. I also quite like Treasure Island but that's just because Tim Curry is merely a Muppet who has been cruelly cursed with a human form.

Muppets in Space is also a decent film in my opinion. Fuck Wizard of Oz though.
>> No. 32457

I personally liked In Space, Treasure Island and Christmas Carol truth be told, but this little dissension is what they wanted to avoid. They wanted to paint with the most vibrant and publicly reaching brush they could and they succeeded. From that hopefully they can modernize without losing the soul and love they gained back.

http://animatedviews.com/2012/next-muppet-movie-will-be-a-comedy-caper/

>Co-writer of The Muppets Nick Stoller and director James Bobin are already writing a sequel to the 2011 blockbuster. Thirteen pages have already been written and it will be a comedy caper with new characters. Jason Segel might make a cameo and Disney wants a summer 2013 release date–which isn’t realistic. Disney really wants a sequel as soon as possible, but let’s hope they don’t sacrifice quality in their haste.

I never got the chance to see this in the theater, but I finally watched it today. It was wonderful, but at the same time kind of strange, because you do get the feeling that the writers don't have much affection for any of the films or specials past Muppets Take Manhattan. I know it's been a mixed bag since then, but that doesn't make the premise of everyone having forgotten the Muppets and Kermit being so out of the loop that Jimmy Carter and Bob Hope are at the top of his contacts any easier to buy.

I guess I understand why they would focus on the... continuity established by The Muppet Show and the original films? I'm not sure if that's the word I'm looking for, but whatever. It feels kind of alienating in a way.

(Would it have been so much to ask for Gonzo and Rizzo to bro it up a little, at least?)

>Would it have been so much to ask for Gonzo and Rizzo to bro it up a little, at least?

Yes, because all Rizzo managed was basically a cameo.

Also, their lack of affection for A Muppet Family Christmas is disconcerting, as it's one of the greatest Muppet things ever.
