Not really. I mean, look how tiny Goku and Kuririn were when they were supposed to be 12 or 13. Trunks and Goten were about 9/8 years old respectively.

Also I think it helps when you think of the forms like this: the "Final" form is actually their natural state, with each form down being a restraint put on as a way to suppress power or even to suppress their own bloodlust*. So maybe the different forms they create vary slightly.

*Think about it: the first thing Freeza did when he first transformed into his "second stage" was to impale Kuririn on his horn and then he bobble him up and down to make the wound ever worse. Well I can't say I'm not madly excited to hear that, but at the same time I'm dreading the possiblity it'll turn out to be crap.

I'm watching gameplay vids of Ultimate Tenkaichi and I have to say I'm not that enthusiastic. The gemaeplays too cinematic and the camera is pretty bad, plus I was never very fond of quicktime events.

Well, the "custom characters" still have to be obviously recognizable as in the Dragonball style. What you end up with, is being constrained to frankenstein-ing together parts of existing Dragonball characters. The amount of "customization" you can do is really quite limited because of this. So you can put Raditz' hair (and make it green) on Vegeta's head, on Brolly's body, wearing Piccolo's clothes; but you can't make a dude who looks like, say, Superman.

Well that's not what bothers me the most. It's the fact that the outfits are totally and completely rip offed existing characters. It's one thing to just kind of piecemeal them together, but it's another when the options are exclusively from existing outfits.

From what I can see, you can't even mix shirts and pants. You literally just dress your character in someone else's clothes.

It seems like all the characters are going to be only Saiyans or Human/Saiyans like Gohan was (I saw one with green skin and I couldn't see a tail on him, but he might have just been using it as a belt), but it'll be a shame if you can only create male characters, not a surprise though.

Certainly wouldn't mind being able to play as a female SSJ.

Bardock was supposed to be the legendary Super Saiyan who made Freeza blow up the planet? Then what was Brolly? He's literally the most powerful being in the galaxy right at that moment, he's psychic, and he might be the founder of the Saiyan kingdom. How did he manage to get sent back in time? Is it possible to stop Freeza before he's even born? Does Bardock know what he's become? Where are we supposed to go from here? If your answer was "anywhere beause there are many possibilites at that moment" congratulations on being a normal person with at least the bare sense for what you can do with a story. This lady apparently sees fit to end a story during the rising action against an unthreatening, undefined, weakling antagonist falling to an undefined, bland protagonist.

Also: hate the art. Looks like DBZ fanart. It's stiff, with rigid anatomy and poses, and totally lacks the fluidity and technical skill of Toriyama.

Brolly wasn't the reason Freiza blew up the planet though since there's nothing in the movies or anime saying Freiza even knew about the child. It's only the Saiyans getting stronger in general brought to his attention by Bardock's team taking a planet the Freiza elite's weren't able to that made him decide they weren't safe to have around for much longer.

I noticed something fun when I was flipping through the Nicktoons Network line-up a few nights ago: on the listing for "Fusion Reborn", Comcast listed Masako Nozawa and Takeshit Kusou instead of any of the FUNImation voice actors that were in the version they were playing. I'm glad I'm not the only person who actually enjoyed that movie. As well as it being the only remotely-major villian defeated totally without Goku's help, it was interesting to see Goten and Trunks actually prove useful. It's terribly disappointing that they were barely around in the series for very long, and as soon as it's their turn to shine, they become totally useless except for doing fusion. Ever since then, it's completely guaranteed that any situation will follow the same formula, with them getting kicked around until they do fusion; sort of the same way Goku would get kicked around until he turned Super Saiyan, every single battle after the first time he did it. In essence, Goten and Trunks become throwaway-characters for it. Nobody wants them around, it's just, "Oh, hi there. Gonna fuse into Gotenks pretty soon? Yeah, Gotenks. You know... that guy that replaced you two? Better get on with it — he's the only one who gets anything done around here."

I suppose it must feel like being a band that plays before the big-name band at an event. Nobody is there for YOU, you're just there to warm up the crowd and make sure the sound-system works. Scars in Dragonball are extremely inconsistant. I have no idea if mortal wounds healed via magical means (whether by dragonballs or Dende or senzu beans) leave scars, but I assume not. Krillin was impaled by Frieza yet showed no sign of a scar. Vegeta is hard to tell due to having a CRAPLOAD of scars shown when he showered early in the Android saga (but then they all disappeared later on) but somehow his face is still pristine and pretty. Other than that, I get the impression Saiyans don't scar at all, but humans do, depending when it happened. Like the one on Tien's chest from Tao's knife.

That damn sword causes more plot holes than any other object in the series. It breaks in Movie 7 (Super Android 13), but is somehow repaired in time for Movie 9 (Bojack)... To say nothing of the whole business with Tapion (and/or Minoshia) and those swords which are the same only not the same. To the point, Mirai Trunks' sword was just a normal human sword of unknown history (the only reason he could cut through Frieza was because he put his ki into it, hence why it failed to cut Android 18 [her ki was stronger])... it wasn't a magical item forged by an alien priest, yet are treated by the plot as being the freaking same. To that end, Tapion's sword ends up being used by Trunks in GT (in the opening, yes, but I honestly can't remember him EVER using it in the actual show, so it obviously wasn't very often) which you'd think it would be very useful, being magical and shit...

In any case, being that Mirai Trunks' sword was rather normal, it could have easily been repaired (certainly by Bulma) at some time. Perhaps swords like that are available on every street-corner in the future, and he just got a new one once he returned (Back to The Future!) and trashed the androids and imperfect Cell.

Toriyama could have done that better. He could have just had the androids have a special ability to not always RADIATE ki energy like organic beings do. Because even the other characters can lower their amount of radiation to hide their presence (and fool scouters) in the same way; they just don't do it by default. He just wanted them to be "different" (Fantastic Mr. Fox handwave) in some way from everyone else they had encountered before.

I don't understand where they get their power from, either; especially since it seems their power never runs out, neither from exhaustion nor from time. Perhaps their lungs take in water vapor, and do electrolysis/nuclear fusion on the free hydrogen?

In any case, I was wondering something. I'm randomly watching the Buu saga today (subbed, mind) and when Majin Vegeta blows the first hole in the stadium, Babidi comments that "200 people just died!"

Even if, by some ridiculous miracle, blowing away half of that portion (one-third of the of the stadium seating) only killed 1/10 of the people in that area, that means there were only 6000 people in the entire freaking stadium. How? It's the size of a football/soccer/baseball stadium, and those things have capacities between 50,000 and 100,000.

Was that some kind of odd censorship of the violence (it's okay if Vegeta blows up 200 people, but 10,000 would be excessive!) or did the writers just utterly have no sense whatsoever of scale??

It's kind of like what happened with Majin Buu. Yeah, he was terribly overpowered and blew up whole cities and shit... but he looked like a buffoon. I couldn't take him seriously until he transformed.

I mean, that looks like Chilled's first form, right? (so no wonder Bardock effortlessly defeated him). If he had been in his second form already (probably no time in the episode/manga for a transformation sequence) it would have been a lot better. There was a lot of wasted potential, really.

I assume its a way for them to promote exposure for the new DBZ stuff they are making, animated stuff primarily.

Did anyone else play the Legend of the Supersaiyan DBZ rpg for the snes? You could do some stuff differently like have all the Z-fighters sans piccolo and an injured Goku survive the battle against the saiyans and go to Namek?

I'd LOVE another game like that, taking a new look aty the concept after all this time.
Yeah maybe make the grinding less of a hassle and have the animations during the battles be more varied, but most importantly whatever part of the story it was set in have all sorts of variations you can do in the story even if thier minor, just more stuff along the lines of taking the crew to Namek and having them kick ass.

So the levels have been cancelled, the Dragon Box is out of print, and they want to redo Kai.
I probably should have picked up the Dragon Boxes when I had the chance.

I'm really curious about Frieza's race in general. What are they called? Do they have females, and, if so, what do they look like? What form is King Cold in? What is the full extent of their various transformation abilities (such as "camouflage" as mentioned by Frieza)?

You'd think we'd at least finally have a canonical name for the race due to their playable appearance in Heroes, but apparently not.

Each game has been selling less and less, and Ultimate Tenkaichi did very poorly.

If you really want to go back and enjoy the second half at all, your best bet is to just read the manga. The anime draws everything out ridiculously. The ridiculous part is that most of the filler is actually really good stuff. Still, when they actually animated stuff well, Z looks amazing even today. So if anything, use the anime to supplement your reading of the manga.

Even if one of them is making a pun on the same subject, I can almost guarantee that they're making up the wordplay. Puns don't just not translate well, most of the time they don't translate at all. A good translator will generally make up a similar joke in the target language. Mediocre translators will just leave it untranslated and add a Translator's Note explaining the joke. Bad translators won't realize it was a joke and translate it literally.
