Mai rescued her brother from her delusional father's clutches in the heart of a pro-Ozai underground militia.

Suki beat up a couple of hapless caricatures of socially dysfunctional neckbeards because they got buttmad about a girl that walked into their shop.

Boiling Rock part 2 still remains my favorite Suki moment.

Eh, thought that it was cute, personally. Both in art style (I liked her The Last of Us prequel) and story.

Personally I think that it's hilarious that while Dark Horse release a story for FCBD about feminism with an added side-order of how some comicbook fans are dicks, DC just decided to have 20 pages of their characters being gruesomely murdered and maimed.

My one complaint is that Kyoshi was too short, wasn't she seven foot? Maybe this was when she was a teenager or something?

Honestly I think this just reinforces the idea that Suki doesn't have much of a character outside of being Sokka's girlfriend and being a walking lesson on sexism. Not that the latter is bad, just because ATLA said 'sexism is bad' doesn't mean they should stop with their extended content, but they could have done it without Suki because this is all she has going for her. They could have just done a straight up origin about the Kyoshi warriors instead.

I got to my store's FCBD at 2:00 since I went into work at 9:00, a full hour after they're even open, and the DC one was one of the very few left.

I like me some Batman Beyond, yes...but not that nonsense.

And yeah, I was also a little "eh" on the story. I remember seeing one person on Livejournal years ago who complained that Mai's reasons for betraying Azula were, ever so slightly, sexist.

I know. But this was kinda before the super-rush of Tumblr's particular brand of this, they actually made a few decent points. Didn't really agree, but it was something to think about.

Last year's FCBD gave us a glimpse of Mai without Zuko. Showed us she does care about her family, but also didn't care for the 100-Year War or nationalism, so it's some fleshing out I think she needed.

Maybe Suki'll get her own comic soon, we can only hope.

I think Mai betraying Azula for Zuko would only really be sexist if Azula was genuinely a good person. We never really got instances of Mai being afraid of Azula (though some people have speculated Mai had originally intended to go through with the trade in Return to Omashu before Azula spoke up), but she does say, "I love Zuko more than I fear you", so I guess there was something there.

Is 'doing something for love' sexist now?

I think the original author was specifically saying that it's overused for a woman to turn her back on evil (or at least being an antagonist) out of love for a man, not that it was inherently sexist.
